Dymot's main area of expertise is winches for conveyor tensioningapplications.Our Automatic Take-Up Systems are widely used in the miningindustry and involve using electric winches, strain gauges andprogrammable electronic controllers to control the start up andrunning tensions on any conveyor.These systems are extensively used underground where theconventional gravity tensioning systems are difficult toaccommodate.

Our Safety Hand Winch range employs an automatic clamping and ratchet type brake that is never disengagedthus ensuring complete safety when raising or lowering a load.These winches are extensively used on gravity counter weight tensioning systems for conveyors.

Dymot also specialises in Rail Car Moving Systems (both endless rope & single type), Hydraulic Winches, RopeSheaves and Grease Pumps. Dymot have designed and manufactured large Barge moving winches for miningplants and Mill Rotating Winches. Dymot have also manufactured a range of Stage and Construction Winches forShaft Sinking and Tower Building/Sliding applications.

All winches are load tested and issued with test certificates.Our test equipment is calibrated to National Standards.Dymot has full traceability of all components through our in house QA system, which is based on ISO 9001:2015.

USEFUL INFORMATION

There are several factors that need to be taken into account to achieve proper rope lay on a winch drum and rope l ife. Of thesefactors the most important is the magnitude of the D/d ratio (Drum/Sheave to Rope Diameter) and the fleet angle.

BENDING RATIO OF ROPE (D/d)When the wire is bent, over a winch drum, a tensi le load is subjected to the outer fibres of the rope.The magnitude of these tensile stresses is inversely proportional to the radius of the bend.Thus the larger the radius is the lesser the stresses wil l be.

TABLE 1 depicts the recommended minimum drum and sheave diameters in terms of the rope diameters for various ropeconstructions. These values are the minimum values when working on a single layer of rope and for speeds below 1 m/s.An addition of 5% should be added to the recommended diameter with every 0.5m/s increase in speed above 1m/s.

In situations where the rope wil l only work intermittently the drum and sheave diameters can be reduced by as much as 25% fromthe recommended minimum values as l isted in TABLE 1. Further reduction from this is not recommended under any circumstancesas this wil l result in severe increase in bending stresses and wil l result in rapid rope fatigue. USEFUL INFORMATION

FLEETING ANGLE DRUM TO LEAD SHEAVE

The fleet angle Ø, as displayed in FIGURE 2, governs the position of the lead sheave with respect to the drum. When the rope is atone end of the drum, against the drum flange, this fleet angle may not exceed one and a half degrees (1.5˚) for plain drums to twodegrees (2˚) for grooved drums left or right from the centre l ine passing through the centre of the sheave groove and the midpointof the drum.The midpoint of the drum is donated by distance LD in FIGURE 2.

Fleet angles larger than these suggested parameters can cause bad rope winding on drums and the rope can rub against theflanges of the sheave groove.A safe rule of thumb that can be used is to multiply the length of the drum by 16.This wil l be equivalent to the distance LS that the lead sheave needs to be away from the winch.This distance wil l  automatical ly result in a fleet angle of between 1.5 ‐ 2˚.

FLEETING ANGLE SHEAVE TO SHEAVE

It is recommended that sheaves operate centre l ine to centre l ine where possible.The fleet angle Ø between two sheaves can be up to 2.5˚ left or right of the centre l ine passing through the centre of each sheavegroove.Refer to FIGURE 3 for an i l lustration of this.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The DYMOT range of power take-up winches have been special ly developed for use on long overland and underground conveyorsand are ideally suited for use with automatic tensioning systems. The unique design, using a combination of worm and epicycl icgears offer numerous advantages over the conventional designs.

The new design uses a fai lsafe disc brake with IP65 protection; this overcomes the problem previously encountered with rustwhich resulted in high maintenance and brake fai lure.

This design has also el iminated the need for a brake drum type coupling through the use of a double input shaft primary gearbox.

FEATURES

● The combination of gears provides for greater mechanical protection due to the use of high ratio worm gears which wil lhelp to resist runaways in the event of a brake fai lure.

● The use of a separate motor and brake al lows the winch to remain locked in position while a fai led motor is repaired.● The epicycl ic final gear presents a massive face width of gear tooth to withstand the shock loads which can be

encountered during belt start-up.● The design and style of these winches are very compact, thus al lowing easy positioning of the winch in the conveyor

structure.● The take-up winch speeds can be varied to suit customer’s requirements by simply changing the worm gear ratios.

This new development has many exciting and advantageous prospects for both our current and new customers who are using or intendusing our automatic take-up winches.

FEATURES

● Controlled mechanical overload payout during starting and stopping of automatically controlled conveyors.● It offers instantaneous reactions to tension spikes thus protecting and extending the life of the belt, belt pulleys, idlers, tensioning

rope, sheaves and the winch.● Dissipation of tension spike energy by allowing the winch to payout, at a preset tension level, even when the brakes are locked.

This enables us to simulate one of the big advantages of a gravity take-up system within an automatic tension controlling system.● This mechanical payout system is the only method, besides gravity, that can provide overload protection/response during a power

TYPICAL LAYOUT - WINCH TAKE-UP FOR CONVEYOR BELT TENSION CONTROL

GENERAL INFORMATION

Avoid tension changes due to uncontrolled starting and stopping.

The DYMOT take-up winch c/w friction clutch used in conjunction with the electronic tension controller, variable frequency winchdrive and the DYMOT hydraulic low tension protection can react to and accommodate all starting and stopping conditionsencountered in the modern high speed conveyor.

This includes transient shock loads caused by unplanned stops and power failures the winch and the electronic tension controllertake care of the normal running and pre-start tensions. The friction clutch controls any over tension loads or spikes by allowingthe mechanical drive to sl ip immediately reduce the overload tension by slipping rope into the system thereby reducing thetension.

When the opposite occurs and low tensions are created this is immediately rectified by the fast retraction of the extended cylinderremoving rope from the system thereby restoring the correct tension in the belt. This is the only system other than gravity whichcan make adjustments to the fluctuating belt tension without continuous power.

OPERATION METHODThe Dymot DOL BTS consists of Contactor Control that offers Periodic adjustment of tension via  a loadcell that feed back to the PLCconsistently to maintain the required Belt Tension.

The Belt Tension will be set via the HMI to the required tensions.- Pre Start Tension- Running Tension (T2)

Manual Operation for Tensioning or Slacking the Belt for Maintenance or Emergency Condition comes Standard via a Key Switch.

The HMI will display the Belt Tension in both static and operational modes.

Once the Main Belt is at speed or per the time factor (settable) the System will maintain the running tension.

When the Main Belt is stopped the tension will be released via the VFD to a pre-set point normally the running tension.

4-20mA  or 0-10V output to allow retransmission of the Load Cell value to a remote PLC or SCADA System.

OPERATION METHODThe Dymot new BTS consists of a VFD - Variable Frequency Drive that offers Torque control to maintain Belt Tension.

The Belt Tension will be set via the HMI and VFD to the required tensions.- Pre Start Tension- Running Tension (T2)

Manual Operation for Tensioning or Slacking the Belt for Maintenance or Emergency Condition comes Standard via a Key Switch.

The HMI will display the Belt Tension in both static and operational modes.

Once the Main Belt is at speed or per the time factor (settable) the VFD will maintain the running tension.After 10s at the same Tension Level the Brake will Park the Winch and the system will only monitor for tension fluctuation andreact accordingly.

When the Main Belt is stopped the tension will be released via the VFD to a pre-set point normally the running tension.

4-20mA  or 0-10V output to allow retransmission of the Load Cell value to a remote PLC or SCADA System.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The new DYMOT range of SAFETY WINCHES has been specially developed to eliminate the danger found on normal ratchet heldloads in hand winches. The principal danger being flying handles when the ratchet is disengaged to the lower load. This problem isovercome with the use of an automatic clamping and ratchet type brake whereby the ratchets are never disengaged and the load ismoved up or down simply by winding the handle in the required direction.A further improvement which has been achieved in the new design is that it is now possible to fit effective dust covers over thegears thereby reducing maintenance and increasing the l ife of the winches.All lubrication points are external to the covers.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Braked Capstan is developed to work in conjunction with a Horizontal Gravity Take-Up system. The purpose of the brakedcapstan in a conveyor tensioning rope system is to prevent the shock loads, caused by power failure or emergency stops, frompulling excessive rope from the system and causing the counterweight to hit the top of the tower.

This is achieved by wrapping the rope through a braked and grooved bull wheel system. The hydraulically released call iper discbrakes are held in a normally off position and fail to safe in the event of a power loss. This is controlled by a hydraulic powerpack. An electric control panel is supplied to control the power pack or a junction box can be supplied where the mine’s PLCcontrols the power pack.

The rope force then has to drive the bull wheel through the preset brake torque with a resultant loss of energy. With the brakes offthe bull wheels are free to turn and the gravity system will tension the belt in the normal way.

In the event of a conveyor power failure or emergency stop, the power supply to the power pack is lost and the call iper brakesclose (Power Off – Brake On). The momentary shock load arising from the conveyor will be absorbed by the capstan brake and willnot pass through to the take-up tower.

An additional hydraulic hand pump is available if required. This is to release the brakes manually if no power is available.

GENERAL INFORMATION

This type of winch is a modified range to the DYMOT standard range of take-up or motorised hand winches and is designed to startdirect-on-line forward or reverse, whether loaded or unloaded. This type of winching system is specifically developed to shuttleequipment running on wheels over short distances.

The most popular application is on moving head conveyors. This concept can also be adapted for smaller trolley/loads that needto be repositioned forwards or backwards. It util ises a grooved drum and only operates on one layer of rope. Two ropes are used,one connected to the front of the unit to be moved and the other to the rear of it.

When operating the winch in either the forward or reverse direction, it moves the trolley in that direction. This is only for shortshuttling distances as the length of travel is governed by the length of the drum. For longer shuttling applications please refer tothe endless rope winches.

The winch is fitted with a brake motor incorporating an electro-magnetic disc brake and an electronic rectifier. The brake operateson the fail-safe principle (i .e. power off - brake on).

GENERAL INFORMATION

The winch is a standard “Bull Wheel” type endless rope winch and is designed to start direct-on-line forward or reverse, whetherloaded or unloaded. This type of winching system is specifically developed to shuttle equipment running on wheels over extensivedistances. The most popular applications are for positioning rail car tankers and tripper cars.

When using the winch to shuttle rail cars it connects to a bogey car and the bogey car couples to the rail tanker. The winch is usedto move the tankers anywhere on the track. The advantage of using the winch is that it removes the need to use a locomotive to dothe shunting.

It operates in conjunction with a return sheave and uses a friction drive to move a bogey car up and down the track. The frictionemanates from the rope  wrapping around the bull wheels of the winch and tensioning device.

The winch is fitted with a brake motor incorporating an electro-magnetic disc brake and an electronic rectifier. The brake operateson the fail-safe principle (i .e. power off - brake on).

GENERAL INFORMATION

The DYMOT range of stage winches are based on our standard take-up winches and, as such, uses a drive train with a worm gearas the primary and an epicycl ic type gear as the final drive.

The benefit of this drive train is its compactness and also the fact that high ratio worm type gears are not easi ly drivenbackwards by the load thus adding to the safety of the braking system. This in no way inhibits the reversibi l ity of the winch.

The winches are fitted with dual brakes that function on the fai l safe principal, one on the high speed side and the other on thelow speed side. The low speed band brake or disc brake doubles up as an emergency and parking brake. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

Due to the automatic safety devices incorporated in the design of the range of safety winches the operation is extremely simple.Raising of the load is achieved by winding the handle in a clockwise direction and lowering by winding anti-clockwise.

This winch has been specifically developed for servicing high mast l ighting systems.It is used for lowering the l ights down the mast for all servicing requirements.High factors of safety and top grade materials ensure reliabil ity and safety for years.

The winch has a number of unique features which make it a leader, namely:

INDEPENDENT DRIVES for each drum which allow rope equalising at any time by simply removing the splitter gearbox from the twoinput shafts, doing the necessary adjustment, replacing the splitter gearbox and continuing the operation.

SELF SUSTAINING worm gear drives which offer maximum safety and load control.

DOUBLE ROPES from the independent drums give maximum safety through load sharing.

GROOVED DRUMS with undercut flanges facil itate even rope laying which gives best rope l ife and helps ensure that the ropes willshare the load once they have been leveled.

POWER TOOLS such as construction type dril l ing machines can be used to raise and lower the load. A reversible drive is notrequired as by using the power drive on the different input shafts the direction of rotation of the drums is reversed through thesplitter gearbox.

The Dymot Battery Changing Systems are available in kit form and can be fitted to any battery rack.

The kit consists of four parts:

● Firstly racks for 42 cell and 60 cell batteries.● Secondly a system of two or three jacks (depending on the size of the battery) for quickly adjusting the height or the level

of the battery rack to suit the loco simply by turning one handle.● Thirdly a winch for pull ing the battery from the loco to the rack or vice versa. This winch clips either to the rack or the side

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Dymot D350 grease pump is a portable foot operated pump, cast in aluminium.Standing 400mm long x 400mm high the pump weighs 12kg dry and has a capacity of 5kg of grease.It delivers 2,5cm3 per stroke at 350 bars pressure.Both hands are always free for the lubrication application.Supplied with 2m or more of high pressure hose and required fittings.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The take-up carriage is an integral component in the conveyor system as this connects the conveyor belt to the tensioning system.The tensioning system can either be a gravity system or an automatic winching system. Due to this linkage the carriage is requiredto be extremely robust and durable to ensure that the conveyor belt is tensioned properly. It is also responsible to secure goodcontrolling and straightness of the belt.

The DYMOT range of take-up carriages have been specifically designed and developed to meet our client’s need with this regard. Itis designed according to the principal that the width of the carriage (wheel centres) is related to the length of the carriage (wheelcentres) by at least the square root of 2. Thus the length of the carriage must at least be 1.414 times longer than the width of thecarriage. This will minimize the propability that the carriage will pull skew or jam on the rails.

To aid this the Dymot carriages are designed with ‘V’ - wheels on the one side, running on an angle iron, and Flat - wheels on theother side, running in a channel or on a flat surface. This allows the carriage to ‘float’ thus diminishing the propability of becomingjammed while at the same time securing that the carriage runs straight.

The carriage wheels are secured to the carriage by using standard Dymot sheave brackets. This innovative method requiresno tedious time spent wasted on alignment of the brackets. Also prolonged standing time when maintenance is required isa thing of the past as it is a basic bolt off/bolt on process. It is just a matter of jacking the trolley up, removing the easilyaccessible bolts on the bracket, refitting the new bracket and wheel assembly and off you go. Dymot has also designedspecialised trolley wheel that can be used as an alternative.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The DYMOT range of barge or plant positioning winches have been special ly designed and developed for accurate positioning ofplants or barges. These winches are manufactured to operated either hydraulical ly or electrical ly and multiple winches arecontrolled from one main operator control desk.

The winch is designed to operate in three winching modes. This al lows for optimal positioning of the plant. These three modesare:

● Reel In - The full power of the winch is used to reel in the rope thereby moving the plant in the direction in which the ropepulls it.

● Drag Out - The winch allows rope to be pulled off the drum in a controlled manner.● Free Spool - The winch allows rope to be pulled off the drum freely even under its own weight.
