Ministry of the Week
That Man Is You
TMIY addresses the pressures and temptations that men face in our modern culture, especially those relating to their roles as husbands and fathers. The program harmonizes current social and medical science with the teachings of the Church and the wisdom of the saints to develop the vision of man fully alive. All men are invited to join the group. Sessions are scheduled Thursday mornings, doors open at 6:00am for breakfast, program begins promptly at 6:30am and ends at 7:30am. Two 13-week semesters fall and spring. For more information please contact Eric Ordinario at 386-466-3223 or [email protected].
Word from your Pastor
Dear Epiphany Family, Last Sunday evening of Pentecost, the Church resumed the longest season of its liturgical year: Ordinary Time. It was interrupted – one might say – by Ash Wednesday on February 14th. Now that Lent and the Easter Season are past us, Ordinary Time has placed us back on its 33-week-long hike to Advent. Each Church season has its proper focus: Advent is the preparation for the coming of the Messiah; Christmas is the celebration of His birth; Lent leads us down the road with our Lord to Calvary; and during Easter we rejoice in His triumph over death. This liturgical season symbolizes the Christian’s daily walk with Jesus, through the humdrum. Let’s not let the name fool us; Ordinary Time is anything but ordinary for a Catholic-Christian. Living an authentically Christian life is undeniably counter-cultural. The values of charity, peace, and justice - hallmarks of the Gospel – have been in large part replaced in today’s society by greed, violence, and bigotry. What is a Christian to do in these increasingly troubled times? Grow bitter? Conform and go with the flow? No. The answer is to live in the midst of the world striving to live the radical message of the Gospel, day to day, uncompromisingly. Sounds hard, but it is truly possible with His grace. Our Lord Jesus earnestly prayed to the Father for us, “I am not asking you to take them out of the world…!They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world… As you have sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.” (John 17:15-16, 18). Spiritual despondence nor moral corruption are options for a Christian; living extraordinary lives in the mundane is. May we know that Our Lady, Mother of Hope, accompanies us through this Ordinary Time, in life, and beyond Yours in Christ, through Mary,
