Jamshedpur is an important industrial city in the country and is in the state of Jharkhand. In 1919 Lord Chelmsford named it Jamshedpur, in honour of its founder late Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata. It is often known as the Pittsburgh of India. It is the only city selected for the Global Compact Cities Pilot Programme by United Nations in India as well as South-East Asia.
Jamshedpur is a major industrial center of East India. It houses companies like Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Lafarge Cement, Telcon, BOC Gases, Praxair, TCE, TCS, Timken India, Tinplate and many more. It is home to the one of the largest industrial zones of India known as Adityapur which houses more than 800 small and medium scale industries.

The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW-India) is a professional body devoted to the cause of promotion and advancement of welding science and technology in India. Established in the year 1966, with its registered office at Kolkata, it has 11branches and one Chapter located all over India. About 4000 welding professionals and over 300 industrial/corporate bodies are members of this Institute.
The institute conducts Associates Membership Examination, which is equivalent to Degree Examination of Welding Engineering. The examination is recognized by the ministry of HRD, Government of India. The institute is affiliated to the International Institute of Welding and interacts with all leading welding institutes in the world.
The branch at Jamshedpur was started in the year 1983. Since then the branch has provided support to the Industries in the area of welding through consultancy, training program, seminars, lectures and meetings. The branch is engaged in continuous upgradation, dissemination of the knowledge and skills based on latest developments in the field of welding and gas cutting. The branch is organizing a seminar on January 21-22, 2011 at Jamshedpur.
About the Organizer
Engineers, academicians, researchers, business entrepreneurs and
practitioners associated with welding are invited to present papers in line with
the theme of the seminar. Authors are requested to submit abstract of their
papers in about 250 words and full paper to "Secretary, The Indian Institute of
Welding, Jamshedpur Branch" as per the schedule given below.

A technical exhibition is being organized along with the seminar. Welding suppliers, equipment manufacturers, welding specialists, welding service providers and technical book publishers etc. have been invited to participate in the technical exhibition to display their products and services. Well-furnished and illuminated exhibition stall of about 2.2 m x 3.0 m size will be provided to each exhibitor at a nominal fee of Rs. 15,000
