Diamond Jubilee (15). Pink Picotee. named in celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee.

excellent perfume. a lovely sweet pea, white with a pink edge. Excellent for garden and exhibition. Bred by eagle Sweet Peas.

Joyce Stanton (9). Dark Blue. This Sweet Pea is new to our catalogue and is a very much

needed dark blue. it is a strong grower with long stems. Excellent for cutting and exhibition. Bred by Dave Manston.

Helen Millar (8a). Lavender Flush on White. This lovely sweet pea was named after Helen by her friend of 50 years. Sadly Helen passed away in 2012 from Motor neurone Disease but her memory will live on in her favourite flower. This sweet pea was bred by andy Beane and has large blooms on stout stems and is excellent for cutting and exhibition.

Doreen (2). Cream. Bred by andy Beane and donated to Mr. Derrick Flint to celebrate

his 100th birthday in March 2011. named in memory of his late wife. excellent perfume. Winner of The Clay Cup, The Leweston Trophy &

Sowing Seeds:For early flowers sow in October through to December. Sow in pots or boxes and grow either in a cold frame or greenhouse. (if grown in a greenhouse put plants as high to the apex as possible to avoid “lanky plants”).

Seed sown at this time of year would not normally require any extra heat but do beware of early frost and heat as required.

Sow indoors January through to april with gentle heat 50/60 deg. F, 10/16 deg. C., DaY & niGHT.

Sow in ground from late april onwards.

Plant 6 to 8 seeds per 5” plant pot.

Plant seed 1.5” apart in boxes.

Germination:Take the pot you are going to use and ¾ fill with compost. Soak well. Top up the pot with dry compost from the bag. Plant the seed ¾” deep. Cover with newspaper and place in a greenhouse or cold frame.

(if sowing from november onwards place pots in a warm greenhouse at about 50/60 deg. Day and night). as soon as you see the first sign of germination remove the newspaper. There is no need to Soak or Chit the seed if grown in this way.

Leave plants is a cold greenhouse or cold frame. Plant in garden as soon as the ground is dry enough to get on and the conditions are favourable for planting.

Proctect Plants From:Slugs, mice, heavy falls of snow, heavy rain and bad frosts.

Compost:any compost will do for sowing, nothing too rich. Mix with sharp sand and grit or sieved soil to keep it light and airy.

Growing On:When plants have two sets of leaves showing, remove the top of the plant above the 2nd pair of leaves to encourage side shoots.

When plants start to flower, cut off flowers when bottom blooms open.

remove all dead flowers from plants to allow for more flowers to grow.

The more you pick the more you get.

(16) Blue Picotee. raised by Harvey albutt. Strong grower, good bloom placement on strong long stems. exquisite perfume.

(15). Pink edged White. raised by Bill Truslove. This pea has everything.

(9b). Pale Blue. First Class certificate and Silver Medal Wisley n.S.P.S. 1988. an outstanding pea raised by Charlie Hamner.

(16). Blue ripple. a very fine fancy coloured sweet pea. raised by ourselves.

(7). Dark Mauve.

(3a). Scarlet. raised by John robson of Castle Douglas. This is unusual as it is the first, as far as i know, scarlet to have a perfume. it obtained a Certificate of Merit at the Scottish Trials in 2004.

(16b). Orange Stripe. a colourful sweet pea named after a colourful TV personality - Geoffrey Hughes. Geoff, who was well known for his roles in Keeping Up appearances, Heartbeat, and Coronation Street, is also a keen gardener. This is an outstanding exhibition pea and good for garden decoration. raised by Stuart Farrer.

(4). Pale Magenta. released by Unwin Seeds. This pea is one of the most favoured by exhibitors.

(3b). Crimson. This a show beater with large blooms on stout stems. it is a very rich crimson and has been bred by ourselves. named after our Grandson.

(2). Cream. raised by F.C. Harris. First Class Certificate S.n.S.P.S. 1987. award of Merit n.S.P.S. Wisley. Large frilly cream.

(4). Carmine. This Sweet Pea has been named after our local Florist and friend who we have known for many years. it is a large Carmine and is excellent for exhibition and garden, with a good perfume. Bred by eagle Sweet Peas.

(9) Midnight Blue. raised by ourselves, the first Dark Blue for a long time.

(7). Dark Blue. raised by ourselves. a new, distinct, dark blue named after our first Grandchild. a good choice for the show bench and garden decoration. Very well perfumed.

(15a). Cream Picotee. This is a lovely pea and is named after our Great niece who now lives in new Zealand. it is ideal for exhibition and garden decoration and has an excellent perfume. raised by ourselves. (13). Salmon Orange. raised by andy Beane. named in celebration of a Leominster boy and a life well lived, as a soldier, father, husband and gardener. This pea has large florets and is ideal for garden and exhibition.

(16). red on White. raised by Dick Place. named after my only sister. a large red stripe with a good perfume.

(16). Plum on Silver. raised by Dick Place. named after our daughter. a large, perfumed, chocolate stripe.

(1). White. named for a lovey 14 year old, taken from us too soon, with so much left to give. Sweet Peas were her favourite flower. This is the first White Seeded White for many years and is excellent for exhibition and garden, with strong perfume. Bred by eagle Sweet Peas.

(8). Lavender. This is a beautiful lavender with a strong perfume. it is the last new variety donated by the late Bernard Jones to the national Sweet pea Society, which has been grown on by andy Beane and alec Cave, and now released by ourselves.

(7a). Mauve Flush. raised by Cecil Leese. Good perfume. award of Merit for exhibition Harlow Carr 2003.

(3b). Crimson. excellent colour and strong grower.

(9a). Mid Blue. raised by F.G. Davies. First Class Certificate 1985 S.n.S.P.S. This sweet pea is faultless.

(16). Lilac on White. raised by Mr r Chisholm M.B.e. Silver Medal S.n.S.P.S. Trials 2002.

(11a). Salmon Pink. in commemoration of the royal Wedding on april 29th 2011. This is a lovely dark Salmon Pink and has an excellent perfume. excellent for garden and exhibition.

We are a family run business with my wife, son and daughter all helping out in different ways. Over a season we will sow up to 7,000 seeds and can have anything up to 4,000 plants flowering at one time. all our plants are grown in cold greenhouses and poly tunnels and are “cordon” grown. The daily task of taking off tendrils and side shoots and layering the plants is the most time consuming.

We sow our first batch of seed in late September, the second batch in January and the third batch in March. This gives us a flowering span of late april through to august/ September. Our first show of the season is The Chelsea Flower Show, which is usually the third week in May, and the flowers are blooming well by this time. During the summer season we will also attend Blenheim Flower Show, Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, Wem Sweet Pea Society Show, Tatton Park Flower Show and Shrewsbury Flower Show.

Over the years we have received numerous rHS Gold Medals and pride of place at the Chelsea Gold Medals.

We are constantly breeding new varieties and aim to release at least one each year. each new variety is grown for 6/7 years on our premises to make sure that it is coming true to colour before the seed is sent to new Zealand. We have 25 different varieties grown for us in new Zealand and the seed produced is sent back to us each april ready for the new season. Once back all varieties are “Batch Tested” 3 times to make sure the germination rate is excellent before being packed ready for sale.

Our aim is to provide quality seed with as much help and advise as needed.
