Hello everyone. Once again we are looking forward to our Annual Awards night. The committee, led by Mrs. Cathy Gallagher and Mrs. Donna Lane, have everything in order and ready to go. We hope to see as many parents, Grandparents and Community mem-bers as possible joining us for the evening, as once again we celebrate the many talents of students at Dunedoo Central School. Semester 2 Reports for the Primary School were presented to students last Friday with secondary students receiving their Reports today. Staff have worked very hard to pro-

duce quality Reports which provide detailed information about achievement, areas for development and strategies for improvement. Special thanks needs to go to all staff as well as our behind the scenes people, the Executive and the Office Staff for their supreme effort in getting the reports ready on time. Infants Intensive Swimming finishes this week with students enjoying their time in the pool. It is a fantastic program developed by the teachers and should place students in a good position to progress through the holidays. Thankyou to Mrs. Maria Abbott and her volunteer group of parents and helpers, as well as the year 10 volunteers, who endured the cold days with the warm, without complaint, with the express purpose of showing students safe practise around the pool. The Whole School Staffing Day on Friday, was very successful with all students enjoying a day of fun and learning, whilst meeting the creative & performing arts requirements of the curriculum. Staff thoroughly enjoyed the day with many positive comments about students. I would like to thank Mrs. Elizabeth Abbott and the committee for doing such a fine job with their organisation. Year 10 students participated in Work Experience last week and achieved glowing reports from their work sites. Mrs Belinda Fergusson, who took four students to Sydney to do their Work Experience through the University of NSW’s ASPIRE Program, said the students were fantastic. The ASPIRE program allowed our students to work at NIDA, in the University Gymnasium and at other venues on the University campus and inner Sydney. The descrip-tions at assembly today by students of their various experiences provided a special insight for younger students about the fantastic opportunities available these days. Other experiences by students included working at a Physiotherapist’s, a Civil Engineering firm and the Country Rugby League Head Office in Dubbo. Students who have behaved themselves and done special things to make the school a better place, for all, will cele-brate this week through the ACE awards Celebration Days. Teachers have been compiling the ACE signatures and will acknowledge these extra-special students within the next few days. On Friday night, it was fantastic to be able to acknowledge certain staff and community members, who have added that special extra dimension to our school, at the Cudgegong Learning Community’s Annual Awards Night, in Mudgee. Mrs. Elizabeth Abbott, Mrs. Fiona Taylor and Mrs. Linden Ewin were this years deserved recipients. I’d like to personally thank these ladies for the extra effort they have made to improve the learning outcomes of our students. All students are reminded that normal school continues until Wednesday Week. Enjoy your week! Peter Campbell Principal

What a beautiful day for clowning around! Students and staff had a fabulous day of

juggling, face painting, hula hoops, bubbles and circus games. Congratulations to the students who could walk the tightrope on the ground,

complete the stilt walk and toss a hula hoop over a safety cone. The wind made for some

challenging bubble blowing! Students learned how to use the juggling balls they made and by lunchtime there were so many fantastic clown faces and twirly moustaches. Our afternoon performance “It’s a Mad World” entertained

everyone. Per juggled lawn bowls, spun plates and balanced golf sticks on his chin. Thank you

to everyone for your enthusiastic participation.

Swimming continues this week for all Infants Children. Thank you to the parents and friends who have come to help us. We will be having a mini Swimming Carnival at the pool on Friday at about 11.20am so the children can show off their new talents. They will also be able to buy “goodies” from the Pool Kiosk on this day. Mrs. M. Abbott Kinder/Year 1: Welcome to Week 10, our last full week of Swimming. The children have really been trying hard and we can notice a difference in their swimming ability and confidence. This week we will continue with Literacy and Numeracy activities ably planned by Miss Kline. This is her last full week and we will miss her enthusiasm and supportive presence in the K/1 classroom. Home readers will be wound up this week so we can do a stocktake. Please check for any lost readers at home. A big thank you to all the parents who have come in each week to hear the children read and to take them through their words. They would not have made the progress they have without your help. Don’t forget Award Night tomorrow night, 10th December. All children receiving awards need to be in full school uniform and at school at 6.45pm. Congratulations to Shane Hall, our student from last week and to Chloe Woodward and Erica Stuart who received Merit Certificates. Mrs. E. Yeo Year 1/2: Welcome to Week 10—the last full week of the year for the children. This week we will continue with our Intensive Swimming Program. Thanks to all our parents and friends who have been helping out. This week Spelling words for both classes will be words about the very first Christmas. In Maths, both classes will be finishing off work from the text books and doing some revision. This will be the last week for Readers. I would like to say a huge THANK YOU, to my Reader Mum’s—Diane Martin, Mel Craggs, Ange Copeland, Belinda Hogden and Sara Fergusson. You have done an amazing job this year. Your support of the students in 1/2 is very much appreciated by myself and the students. I would also like to thank my trusty Teachers Aide’s, Kylie Bennetts and Deb Fitzgerald—I appreciate your help and support. Keep reading and keep smiling. Ps: All Readers and Library Books need to be returned by Friday 13th December. Mrs. M. Abbott

Hello for Week 10 The uniform supplier has informed me that due to them closing for a month over the Christmas period from this Friday, they can NOT guaran-tee that orders will be dispatched before they close. I will be here for 2 days before school starts and will call everyone to let them know when their uniforms have arrived.

Reports were handed to Primary students on Friday. Don’t forget Award Night on Tuesday. And Netball NSW Clinics on Friday. 3-6 will be swimming for sport this Friday afternoon. I am pleased to announce that the Year 6 Farewell Assembly will be held this Thursday 12th December at 2pm in the school hall. I apologise again for the late notice. The assembly will show some of Year 6’s work this year, and will present awards to students (and teachers). Infants/Primary are making some minor modifications to bell times from next year. The changes have the effect of:

Increasing Face-to-Face teaching time by 5 minutes Bringing Primary Lunch into line with secondary Reducing the length of Primary lunch to reduce behaviour issues Facilitating sharing of specialist staff across Primary/Secondary Facilitating timetabling of Primary RFF Consistent start and finish times to the day Minimising impact on students/staff access to library/computer room

Bus times will not be affected by the changes in bell times. Enjoy your week. Events to come: Award Night—Tuesday 10th December Year 6 Farewell Assembly—Thursday 12th December at 2pm. Netball NSW Clinics—Friday 13th December Enjoy your week Joel Wilson—Assistant Principal Primary

Year 3/4: All students brought home their reports last Friday. I would love to catch up with anyone who would like to discuss their child’s report and his/her progress throughout the year (2 years for Year 4 students). Simply call the front office and book an appointment any time this week or next week. This week in class, we will complete our Science unit, Mini Worlds, with a special look at living and non-living things using microscopes. We will be creating a unique Christmas gift in Art and on Friday we finish our swimming program for Sport. Last week I attended a Maths confer-ence and I am looking forward to trialling new practical and fun activities with Year 3 this week. This week’s news topic is ‘my best memory of Year 3/4 2013’. Have a great week. Mr. B. Kline

Year 4/5: Hello everyone, you should have received your child’s report last Friday. I must congratulate every student on the determined effort they have put into their own learning this year. It has been a pleasure to see all students overcome their personal difficulties whether it be in spelling, reading, writing for a particular purpose, in mathematics problem solving or on the sporting field. WELL DONE!!! This week is a normal school week for all students. We will continue with revision this week in most subjects as well as building our structures and working in our Christmas booklets. This is also the last week of homework for 2013! Lastly, I hope to see you at Award Night tomorrow night here in the D.C.S hall. Please see the wonderful ladies in the front office for further details on start and finish times. Have a great week! Mr. A. Honeysett

Last week all of Year 10 participated in Work Experience in a variety of workplaces and locations. From engineers, electricians, personal trainers, Vet, acting, health, metal fabricating, catering, spray painting, child care to NRL, all students upheld the Dunedoo Central motto of “Our Best Always” by being punctual, well presented and enthusiastic. I was very proud to be a part of UNSW WOW (Week Of Work) where 5 students completed work in Sydney both on campus and within the city using public transport or walking many miles! Congratulations Year 10. Mrs. B. Fergusson

On Friday 29th November 2013, the Dunedoo Central School Scripture Assembly was held. This assembly included the singing of songs, the re-telling of the Christmas Story and readings from the Bible. I would like to congratulate Jaz Johnston and Emma Gallagher who delivered speeches about whether or not Christmas has lost its true meaning. Jaz disagreed that Christmas has lost its true meaning and made a compelling arugment to support her viewpoint. Emma took the opposite viewpoint. It should be noted that Paige Thomson was originally selected to deliver a speech alongside Jaz, but had to attend the Young Leader’s Day in Sydney on the day of the Scripture Assembly. Paige had taken the time to carefully research the given topic and organise it into a speech. Emma Gallagher was gracious enough to take on the responsibility of reading Paige’s speech on the day. All three girls have been excellent ambassadors for Dunedoo Central School and each has made a valuable contribution to the 2013 Scripture Assembly. Mr. S. Hall

Parents & Community Members are invited to a Half-Day Coffee Course to be held at school this Wednesday 11th December from 1.00pm to 4.00pm. A small cost of $5 will be charged to cover costs. Holiday comes from the concept of keeping Holy Days – observing special events in the Christian

year. These days we also are more aware of Hebrew, Muslim, Buddhist and other Holy Day. As you celebrate Immanuel, God with Us, may you have time to remember that in exchanging gifts, visiting with family and friends, and placing an angel or star on our tree we are remembering that Jesus came so we may have eternal life. Hasn’t the year gone quickly? Too quickly I think! Everyone is settling in for the big break – and I can almost hear parents, carers and supporters battening down the hatches as they prepare for 6 weeks of children underfoot. I loved the long holiday (most of the time). This was the time of year when we did the things we didn’t always have time for – learn to swim school, holiday campouts, relaxing because no one had to be out the door by 8:30 a.m. and visiting family and friends. Have you ever tried to rethink the way you approach these long holidays? Children are on a high – “Christmas is Coming” very soon after school ends, these days. How do you bring the newly liberated people ‘down to earth’ with-out crushing their spirits? It is not easy, and it is worth thinking about before the day of freedom arrives. To distract my girls I tried to work with them outside the normal things. So, they designed Christmas Cards for our extended family, designed wrapping paper from butcher’s paper, paint and glitter; designed coloured string for tying up parcels; and, one year they made felt decorations for the tree. As they grew they have made gingerbread men and a Yule Log. One year they made a stained glass desert using different sorts of juice and gelatine for the panes, and bound it together with a chocolate mousse acting as the joining lead. Anything to use up the energy they had. If we had to travel, we tried to forward plan some activities for the car – songs and games. I spy was always a great hit, and as the girls aged, so did the way we played the game; number plates or car colour or types—funny how there are differing views on what constitutes a truck or a ute!! One of the things about Christmas the children have to deal with is the competition of ”What I’m going to get” that seems to happen. May I suggest that you limit their dreams to possibility, and responsibility? Santa may be gener-ous, but I am sure he has to cope with an ever tightening budget in this day and age, especially considering the growing number of children in the world. My tips for a less stress filled Christmas is to relax, pick your fights with the children to those worth worrying about, keep it low key and be aware that children handle Christmas and holidays in a very different way to adults. Christ-mas is a celebration of hope and joy but it can be (sadly) a time of great sadness and violence. The Reverend Beth Bowman Chaplain
