Department Overview

Energy Supply Management (ESM) is responsible for all commercial activities supporting gas andelectric procurement, including the procurement of gas supplies, pipelines and storage, renewableresources, qualifying facilities, and conventional resources. Energy Supply Management is alsoresponsible for financial hedging activities to manage customers' price risk associated with the gasand electric portfolios and for the daily resource dispatch and scheduling decisions.

Position Summary

This position will support efforts to maintain and enhance a strong compliance culture in the ShortTerm Electric Supply (STES) organization. The Short Term Electric Supply organization isresponsible for the daily bidding and scheduling of all of PG&E’s owned and contracted generationresources and load into the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) markets to ensurereliable and affordable electricity for our customers. This individual will be responsible fordeveloping templates which would incorporate methodologies and metrics discussed at a recentCalifornia Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) workshop focused on Least Cost Dispatch. Inaddition, this individual will compile and review workpapers for submission to Energy ResourceRecovery Account (ERRA) compliance filing which is over $4Bn annually. As expertise is gained,s/he will work directly with Law and Regulatory Relations.

Work with personnel in functional areas that are responsible for energy trading and procurementactivities. Assist in the preparation for complying with additional regulatory and external reportingrequirements, i.e., Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, (FERC), North American ElectricReliability Co., (NERC), and California Independent System Operator, (ISO) Tariff requirements,

and internal risk reporting and controls.

Qualifications

Required:-Bachelor's degree in business, economics, computer applications, engineering, or energy; orequivalent work experience- A minimum of one year of related experience.

Desired:-California regulatory filing experience.- Electric and/or gas market knowledge.- Able to manage large databases and manipulate and extract data to perform analytics to supportdecision making.- Able to support implementation of procurement processes with sound, technical analyses,coupled with the ability to synthesize results to management and decision makers with limitedelectric market knowledge.- Experience in process improvement implementation.- Able to work with minimal direction and question the status quo, backed with sound technicalanalyses and supporting business rationale.- Ability to synthesize regulatory compliance requirements for implementation by ESM in a hybridcompetitive/regulated environment.- Ability to evaluate potential opportunities and risks consistent with regulatory requirements andinternal risk management guidelines.

Responsibilities

-Under guidance, analyze market results, compare to expected results, and rationalize differences.-Assist in the documentation of expected vs. actuals and their reconciliation in anticipation ofregulatory proceedings.-Support the regulatory process by initially working with the respective Subject Matter Experts.-Assist in the preparation of reports to management and of testimony and other filings to regulatoryagencies.-Develop a fundamental understanding of each procurement process to be sufficiently competentto assure that the work product has met all internal and external requirements and that the resultsare fully supported by sound technical analyses and data. Provide quality control for all analysessupporting procurement decisions.-Develop a working knowledge of all data, databases and systems used in each procurementprocess. Understand the relationship between input data and output results. Extract data toperform analytics to confirm compliance with “least cost dispatch” and to validate the positions weare taking in regulatory filings.-Develop a working understanding of Electric Procurement’s procurement strategies and PG&E’senergy policies with a focus on how such will impact future compliance requirements andprocurement activities under the responsibility of ESM.-Develop a working knowledge of our procurement strategies and processes to understand why weprocure specific products in each of the gas and/or electric markets. Opine on the strategies withrespect to cost recovery risk in collaboration with Regulatory Relations and Law Departments.

-Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements and CAISO tariffs and Business PracticeManuals. Follow market developments and trends, with the objective of proactively anticipating andstrategically positioning for changing compliance requirements. Identify and prioritize areas thatneed revision and recommend changes to the procurement process (including revisions todatabases and systems) that captures the anticipated compliance modifications.-Become familiar with PG&E load/resources, CAISO tariff, Front Office implementation processesand systems, and Western electricity markets.-Assist STES Managers and Director on ad-hoc requests and projects.
