DULWICH GARDENS OPEN FOR CHARITYDulwich and its neighbourhood is a green oasis bejewelled by gardens such as those featured

in this booklet, which are normally hidden but for the generosity and hard work of their owners in sharing them for charity.

The Dulwich Society, through its Garden Group, is pleased to publish this booklet with details of these gardens, whose openings are now firmly part of the annual social calendar.

Do visit and support them. They are all magnificent and they also raise significant sums for both local and national charities. Talk to their owners, look for ideas, enjoy the refreshments but above all enjoy the gardens themselves. You cannot but come away inspired and uplifted!

ALL YEAR ROUND

BROCKWELL PARK COMMUNITY GREENHOUSES (BPCG)

Open seven days a week for school visits, family events, courses, workshops, music gigs, drop-in garden volunteering and visiting.

www.brockwellgreenhouses.org.uk

Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses (BPCG) aims to be a green haven for Londoners. We want to build community and improve lives by encouraging people to visit and to take part in gardening, outdoor learning, play and other creative activities at our large Community Garden. We are right in the middle of Brockwell Park, between the walled garden and the tennis courts. We have lots of vegetable and flowerbeds, an orchard, a small meadow, an apiary, a cob oven, a green woodwork area, a wildlife pond and two very large greenhouses. Monday to Thursday during term time and school holidays, we hold booked nature based education, exploration and play sessions for children. We also put these on, on alternate weekends. Thursday to Sunday we are open for visiting and for drop-in garden volunteering 10am to 5pm (4pm winter). As well as our garden volunteering scheme, school visits, and family events, we also run lots of workshops on gardening, green woodworking, drawing, natural dyeing, cooking, yoga and more...

From April to October, we hold pizza days, music gigs, parties and fetes. In September 2019 the Royal Horticultural Society said that BPCG is: “a wonderful place... that gives

many people much pleasure” and rated us an ‘Outstanding’.

We always welcome people to come and volunteer in the garden, help with events, or to help with our kids’ activities. If you’d like to volunteer, just sign up on our website pagewww.brockwellgreenhouses.org.uk/999000-2/

Steeply sloping, it maximises every bit of height with plants cascading over high rise balconies and dropping down to a theatrically styled well of a garden. Mediterranean planting on four levels. Regret, with narrow paths and very steep steps, garden not suitable for small children or mobility challenged. Teas

Garden volunteering opportunitiesDulwich is rightly famous as a green oasis with its gardens, parks and woods. Part of its beauty is maintained by hard-working, enthusiastic volunteers.

Giving time has many benefits for the volunteer – meeting new people, developing new skills, working in some of the most lovely parts of London, and of course, many cups of tea.

Here are some of the gardening and wildlife organisations in and around Dulwich, which would be pleased to hear from you if you would like to spend time helping them. It would be wise to confirm that volunteering sessions are on the dates advertised before turning up with your wellies and gardening gloves.
