Yourpunishmentjustice,

Yourdecreeachoiceforthebest!
IfYoubestow,YoustainnotYourbestowalwithobligation,
andifYouwithhold,Youwithholdnotintransgression.
Youshowgratitudetohimwhothanks,whileYouhaveinspiredhimtothankYou.
YourewardhimwhopraisesYou,thoughYouhavetaughthimYourpraise.
Youcoverhimwhom,ifYouwilled,Youwouldexpose,
andYouaregeneroustowardhimfromwhom,ifYouwilled,Youwouldwithhold.
BothareworthyofYourexposureandwithholding,
butYouhavefoundedYouractsupongratuitousbounty,

channelledYourpowerintoforbearance,
receivedhimwhodisobeyedYouwithclemency,
anddisregardedhimwhointendedwrongdoingagainsthimself.
Youawaittheirturningbackwithouthaste
andrefrainfromrushingthemtowardrepentance,
sothattheperisheramongthemmaynotperish,becauseofYou
andthewretchedmaynotbewretchedthroughYourfavour,
butonlyafterYourprolongedexcusinghim,
andsuccessiveargumentsagainsthim,
asanactofgenerositythroughYourpardon,OGenerous,

andanactofkindlinessthroughYourtenderness,OClement!
ItisYouwhohaveopenedforYourservantsadoortoYourpardon,
whichYouhavenamedrepentance.
Youhaveplaceduponthatdoor
apointerfromYourrevelation,
lesttheystrayfromit:Youhavesaid(blessedareYournames),
RepenttowardGodwithunswervingrepentance!
ItmaybethatYourLordwillacquitofyourevildeeds
andwilladmityouintogardensbeneathwhichriversflow,

uponthedaywhenGodwillnotdegradetheProphetandthosewhohavefaithalongwithhim,
theirlightrunningbeforethemandontheirrighthands,
andtheysay:OurLord,completeforusourlight,andforgiveus!
SurelyYouartpowerfulovereverything.(66:8)
Whatistheexcuseofhimwhoremainsheedlessofenteringthathouse
aftertheopeningofthedoorandthesettingupofthepointer?
ItisYouwhohaveraisedtheprice
againstYourselftotheadvantageofYourservants,
desiringtheirprofitintheirtradewithYou,
theirtriumphthroughreachingYou,andtheirincreaseonaccountofYou,

forYouhavesaid(blessedisYourNameandhighareYouexalted),
Whosobringsagooddeedshallhavetenthelikeofit,
andwhosobringsanevildeedshallonlyberecompensedthelikeofit.(6:160)
Youhavesaid,Thelikenessofthosewhoexpendtheirwealth
inthewayofAllah
isasthelikenessofagrainofcornthatsproutssevenears,
ineveryearahundredgrains;
soAllahmultipliesuntowhomHewills.(2:261)
Youhavesaid,WhoishethatwilllendtoAllahagoodloan,

AndYouhavesentdownintheQurn
similarversesonthemultiplyingofgooddeeds.
ItisYouwhohavepointedthemthroughYourspeechfromYourUnseen
andYourencouragementinwhichliestheirgoodfortune
towardthatwhichhadYoucovereditfromthem
theireyeswouldnothaveperceived,
theirearswouldnothaveheard,
andtheirimaginationswouldnothavegrasped,
forYouhavesaid,RememberMeandIwillrememberyou,

andbeyounotthanklesstowardsMe!(2:152)
Youhavesaid,Ifyouarethankful,surelyIwillincreaseyou,
butifyouarethankless,Mychastisementissurelyterrible.(14:7)
AndYouhavesaid,SupplicateMeandIwillrespondtoyou,
surelythosewhoaretooproudofMyworship
shallenterJahannaminutterhumility.(40:60)
HenceYouhavenamedsupplicatingYouworshipandrefrainingfromitwaxingproud,
andYouhavethreatenedthattherefrainingfromitwouldyield
entranceintoJahannaminutterabjection.

SotheyrememberYouforYourkindness,
theythankYouforYourbounty,
theysupplicateYoubyYourcommand,
andtheydonateforYouinordertoseekYourincrease;
inallthisliestheirdeliverancefromYourwrath
andtheirtriumphthroughYourgoodpleasure.
Wereanycreaturehimselftodirectanothercreature
tothelikeofthattowhichYouYourselfhavedirectedYourservants,
hewouldbedescribedbybeneficence,
qualifiedbykindness,andpraisedbyeverytongue.

SotoYoubelongspraiseaslongasthereisfoundawaytopraiseYou,
andaslongasthereremainsforpraisingwordsbywhichYoumaybepraised
andmeaningswhichmaybespentinpraise!
OHewhoshowsHimselfpraiseworthytoHisservants
throughbeneficenceandbounty,
floodingthemwithkindnessandgraciousness!
HowmuchofYourfavourhasbeenspreadaboutamongus,
Yourkindnesslavisheduponus,
andYourgoodnesssingledoutforus?

YouhaveguidedustoYourreligionwhichYouhavechosen,
YourcreedwithwhichYouarepleased,
andYourpathwhichYouhavemadesmooth,
andYouhaveshownusproximitytoYou
andarrivalatYourgenerosity!
OAllh,amongthechoicestofthoseduties
andthemostspecialofthoseobligations
YouhaveappointedthemonthofRamadan,
whichYouhavesingledoutfromothermonths,
chosenfromamongallperiodsanderas,

andpreferredoveralltimesoftheyear
throughtheQurnandtheLightwhichYousentdownwithinit,
thefaithwhichYoumultipliedbymeansofit,
thefastingwhichYouobligatedtherein,
thestandinginprayerwhichYouencouragedatitstime,
andtheNightofDecreewhichYoumagnifiedtherein,
thenightwhichisbetterthanathousandmonths.(97:3)
ThroughitYouhavepreferredusovertheothercommunities
andthroughitsexcellenceYouhavechosenustotheexclusionofthepeopleofthecreeds.

WefastedbyYourcommandinitsdaylight,
westoodinprayerwithYourhelpinitsnight,
presentingourselvesbyitsfastinganditsstandingtothe
mercywhichYouhaveheldupbeforeus,
andwefoundthroughitthemeanstoYourreward.
AndYouarefullofwhatissoughtfromYou,
MunificentwithwhatisaskedofYourbounty,
andneartohimwhostrivesforYournearness.
Thismonthstoodamongusinastandingplaceofpraise,
accompanieduswiththecompanionshipofoneapproved,

andprofiteduswiththemostexcellentprofitoftheworldscreatures.
Thenitpartedfromusatthecompletionofitstime,
theendofitsterm,andthefulfillmentofitsnumber.
Sowebidfarewelltoitwiththefarewellofonewhosepartingpainsus,
whoseleavingfillsuswithgloomandloneliness,
andtowhomwehavecometooweasafeguardedclaim,
anobservedinviolability,
andadischargedright.

andcleansedusofthedefilementofoffenses!
Peacebeuponyouyouarenotbidfarewellinannoyance
norisyourfastingleftinweariness!
Peacebeuponyou,objectofseekingbeforeyourtime,
objectofsorrowbeforeyourpassing!
PeacebeuponyouHowmuchevilwasturnedawayfromusthroughyou!

Howintenselyweshallyearnforyoutomorrow!
Peacebeuponyouanduponyourbountywhichhasnowbeenmadeunlawfultous
anduponyourblessingsgonebywhichhavenowbeenstrippedawayfromus!
OAllh,wearethepeopleofthismonth.ThroughitYouhaveennobledus
andgivenussuccessbecauseofYourkindness,whilethewretchedareignorantofitstime.
