DTP DISCRETE TORTUOUS PATH CHOKE VALVES are designed to provide the highest level of quality

and reliability for flow control applications under

severe conditions, preventing the Cavitation and other

risksrelatedtothehighfluidvelocityaltogether.

Valves for severe service conditions are generally

subjectedtoveryhighdifferentialpressuresand/orvery

lowtemperatures,therebyextremecaremustbetaken

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

ThedesignprincipleofDTP®istocontroltheflowvelocitybycontrollingthepressurelossesacrossthevalve.A

singlehighpressuredrop,acrossthevalve,producesanunsteadysystemwithoutanypossibilitytocontrolthe

outputflowvelocity,whereasdividingitinseveralstages,areductionofthevelocityispossible,therebyreducing

theriskofprematurefailuresrelatedoncavitationanderosion.

DTP®Valvesaretraditionalrobustanglevalves(globetypeavailableonrequest)withamultistagecageand

itscorrespondingplug,specificallydesignedtoprovideahighenergydissipation.

MultiStageCageconsistsofaclampedstackofdiskshavingamultiple

setoftortuouspathsinparalleltoeachother,usedtoincreasetheflow

resistancethroughthetrim.Thisdecreasestheoverallvelocitythroughthe

valve,therebyreducingthepressurerecovery.

Typically,discretetortuouspathusesaseriesofright90°angleturnsto

createfrictionallossesandtoslowdownvelocity.

INHERENT FLOW CHARACTERISTIC• LINEAR: Allthedisksinthestackhavethesamenumberofpassagesandturns,andthesameflowarea;theflowisdirectlyproportionaltothevalvestrokeatacertaindifferentialpressure.

• MODIFIED EQUAL-PERCENTAGE : Disks can be different. The number of the passages, the turns and flowarea are varied according to precise calculation in order to satisfy the following rule. A change in

flowper unit of valve stroke is directlyproportional to the flowoccurring just before the change ismade.

Thereductionofthevelocityisthepredominantfactortoavoidtheriskoferosion.

Erosionratewillvaryasa third tofifthpowerfunctionof thevelocity.Discrete

TortuousPathdesignprotectsthetrimfromprematureerosion,increasingthetrim

lifemanytimes.

ABVEnergyprovidestrimswithtwodifferentDiscreteTortuousPathtypologies:

• ETCHED OR LASER DISCRETE TORTUOUS PATH foranhorizontaldirectionflow.

• THROUGH DISCRETE TORTUOUS PATHforaverticalandhorizontalflowdirectionwith

disksmadefromathroughspaceplate.

Forcompressiblefluids inadditiontothevelocitycontrol throughtherighthand

turn,thetortuouspathwayscanbeenlarged,allowingtheexpansionoftheflow.

VELOCITY REQUIREMENTSInletfluidsvelocityandinternaltrimvelocityhavetobelimitedtominimizethevalvebodyerosionandtoavoid

thepotentialriskofinstabilityandvibrationofthesystem.

IncaseofLiquidService,theDPTmultistageconfigurationassuresanoutputflowvelocityequaltotheinletflow

velocity.

IncaseofGasService,theflowvelocitythroughtheDTPmultistagecagemustbelimiteddependingonthe

requestedacceptableSoundpressurelevel(SPL).

• SPL<85dBA Velocitythroughthetrimmustbelessthan0.3xMach

• 85dBA<SPL<95dBA Velocitythroughthetrimmustbelessthan0.5xMach
