  • About DST 0

This guide is designed to aid you in making seasonal time adjustments.

Please review each step to help ensure a smooth transition when observing Daylight-Saving Time changes.

Unsupported Communication Methods 0The following methods of collecting data do NOT support the processing of the DST time change:

500 Series Terminals (used with the Activities application)TTE Interfaces

DST Checklist 0Use this checklist to ensure that you follow the proper order of the process.

    _____ Step 1 - Required DST Version/Service Pack on page 2

_____ Step 2 - Establish the DST Table on page 3

_____ Step 3 - Observe DST field on page 6

_____ Step 4 - Download DST Timestamp - 400 Series Clocks only on page 7

    _____ Step 5 - Confirm 4500 Configuration on page 9

_____ Step 6 - Log Communications during Changeover on page 13

_____ Step 7 - Confirm Terminal Entry Application Configuration on page 14

_____ Step 8 - Confirm Employee Application Configuration on page 16

_____ Step 9 - Schedule the Time Adjust Program on page 18Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 1

  • Step 1 - Required DST Version/Service Pack 0

The following versions are supported with DST processing: 4.1.11, 5.0.5, 5.1.3, 5.2.1, 5.3.5. If you are NOT on one of these, or a more recent version and have experienced issues with DST, it is required that you install to the appropriate next level for your version.

To check what level of software, select F20 for version from the Kronos iSeries Central Main Menu (in 5250 version), and then select F4 for General Information. If running the Graphical User version of Kronos iSeries Central, simply click on the "Version" button on the left-hand side of the screen on the Main Menu.

To receive the recommended service packs, do one of the following:

retrieve and apply the service pack from the link on the Customer Portal http://customer.kronos.comcontact Technical Support at 800-394-4357create a support case at http://customer.kronos.com.Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 2

  • Step 2 - Establish the DST Table 0

As of 4.1.10, a DST information table replaces the DST fields formerly in Company Maintenance. This table resides in the TIMEKEEPER program library and is used globally for ALL Kronos iSeries Central companies. For those customers who have multiple Kronos iSeries Central companies, that is, multiple CLOCxxxxxx data file libraries, if at least one of those companies need to handle the DST change, then this table would need to be configured as outlined in this step.

    Observe DST field setting 0

This field needs to be set to Y if any of your Kronos iSeries Central companies have need to handle a DST time change. Setting this field to Y accomplishes the following when the Time Adjust program( Step 9 - Schedule the Time Adjust Program on page 18) runs:

Changes the QUTCOFFSET and QHOUR system values depending on the version of your operating system as follows:- v5r2m0 or lower: system values QUTCOFFSET and QHOUR are adjusted. If, for any reason,

you do not want these values adjusted, they must be manually adjusted back after the Time Adjust program runs.

    - v5r3m0 or higher: the system values QUTCOFFSET and QHOUR are no longer available for change. Note: your IT Administrator needs to verify the QTIMZON system value is properly set for the DST time change for the new dates.

Note: use the DSPPTF command to view your OS level.

Updates the CODSDT field in the CKCOMPAN files with the date of the DST time changeChanges the status of the Daylight Saving TIme Currently in Effect field to the appropriate Y/N value.Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 3

  • Daylight Saving Time Currently in Effect field setting 0

This field needs to be manually set upon product installation. If any of your Kronos iSeries Companies has to handle a DST time change, the field must be set in its proper context.

The field should only be set to Y if the current system date/time is within one of the Spring Forward / Fall Back date ranges. The system will issue a warning if a Y setting is set outside of one of the Spring Forward / Fall Back date ranges.

Once the field is set, the Time Adjustment program ( Step 9 - Schedule the Time Adjust Program on page 18) will handle changing its status at the proper time, assuming the Observe DST flag is set to Y, as discussed on the previous page.Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 4

Energy Policy Act of 2005 - DST table settings for the U.S.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. Formerly, DST began on the first Sunday in April and ended the last Sunday in October. Beginning in 2007, DST will begin on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November.

NoteThe Energy Policy Act of 2005 is an experiment, and the U.S. Congress retains the right to resume the 2005 Daylight Saving Time schedule once the Department of Energy study is complete.

Until legislative changes dictate, the DST Table for Kronos iSeries Central 5.2.2 has been updated to reflect the updated dates as shown in the example below.

New Customers - If you are a new customer installing Kronos iSeries Central 5.2.2, your DST Table will be shipped configured as shown above.Existing Customers - If you are on any other version of Kronos iSeries Central other than 5.2.2, you will need to modify your DST Table with the correct dates.1. At a command line, type CALL CLKDSTCL. The Maintain DST Information screen appears.2. Type the start and stop times on the SAME line and press Enter to update the table.

NoteIt is not necessary to enter future dates in the table in order for the current year to process properly. However, subsequent dates will need to be added in their appropriate year for future changes to be handled correctly.Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 5

  • Step 3 - Observe DST field 0

For all terminal types except the 500 Series, in time zones that observe DST, you must set the Observe DST flag on the first screen of Clock File Maintenance to a value of Y.

NoteThe only exception to the above statement would be for 400 series clocks without Flash 400.6B02 - see Step 4 - Download DST Timestamp - 400 Series Clocks only on page 7

For all terminal types in time zones that do NOT observe DST, you must set the Observe DST flag on the first screen of Clock File Maintenance to a value of N.Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 6

  • Step 4 - Download DST Timestamp - 400 Series Clocks only 0

Flash 400.6B02 0Users of 400 Series clocks need Flash 400.6B02. Please contact technical support at 800-394-4357 for assistance in obtaining the flash.

NoteThe clocks need Flash 400.6B02, and Procedure 5, Step 1 including the value 64. Otherwise, punches may be double-adjusted for home employees. If you cant obtain 6B02, set the Observe DST flag in Clock Maintenance to N. This will prevent the double adjustment.

    Ethernet

To check the flash level on an ethernet 400 series terminal, you can execute the TRYIT command by typing CALL TRYIT CLOCNAME on the command line where CLOCNAME is the name of the clock you are checking.

To check from the terminal, swipe the maintenance badge and enter command 110.

    Asynchronous

To check the flash level an asynchronous 400 series terminal, type TRYIT and then press F4, then type in the name of the clock.

Downloading DST timestamp to 400 Series Time Clocks 0

NoteUsers of 4500 Series terminals do not need to use this procedure, since DST information is stored in the device on start-up.

Use this option to automatically adjust the time at the clocks, when Daylight Savings takes effect in Spring or Fall. This process stores the date and time adjustment information, then when the specified date and time arrives, the system adjusts the time forward or back one hour (as specified) on all clocks or each selected clock (as specified).

You can change and re-download this option, if necessary, until the daylight savings time change goes into effect. Only one record is kept at the clock.

When you select Download Daylight Savings Time to Time Clocks, the system displays the Download Daylight Savings Toggle Time screen.

    1. From the Kronos iSeries Timekeeper main menu, select Time Clock Communications > Down-load Daylight Savings Time to Time Clocks.

    2. On the Daylight Savings Toggle Time screen, fill in the data fields as appropriate.Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 7

  • 3. When you have completed all fields, press ENTER... If you chose to download to all clocks (Download to All Clocks = Y), the system begins the download process and you are finished with this procedure... If you selected to specify clocks to download to (Download to All Clocks = N), the system dis-plays the Select Clocks screen. Continue with step 4.

    4. Type 1 beside each clock you want to download to and press ENTER.5. To begin the download process, press F9 PROCESS.

The system begins the process and sends a message to your message queue when finished.Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 8

  • Step 5 - Confirm 4500 Configuration 0

4500 devices handle DST properly when the devices are defined and the configuration is downloaded to the clock from Time Clock Communications > Time Clock Maintenance, as shown below.

NoteIf you have a 4500 device in a location that does not observe Daylight Saving Time, once the clock has been defined, change the Observe DST setting on the first screen of Clock Maintenance to "N" - see Step 3 - Observe DST field on page 6.

NoteThe Adjust Punches fields allow you to control whether punches are adjusted in the Spring when DST starts, or in the Fall when DST ends. These fields are only available with version 5.3.5 and higher.

Energy Policy Act of 2005 - 4500 DST settings for the U.S. 0The Energy Policy Act of 2005 changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S.

Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 9

  • All 4500 clocks that observe DST, must have their DST Options changed to reflect the updated DST start and stop dates.

Once all 4500 clocks that observe DST have had their DST options changed to reflect the updated DST start and stop dates in Time Clock Maintenance, the revised dates must be downloaded to the clocks.

Note: customers who had a successful DST in the spring of 2008 can ignore this step, as it is a one-time process.

There are two options for downloading the revised dates to the clocks - proceed to next page =>

    Fields 2006 and prior 2007Start Week 1 2

    Start Month 4 3

    End Week L 1

End Month 10 11Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 10

  • Option 1

For each clock, you may use the Download Configuration option in Time Clock Maintenance as shown below:

This option will send ALL configuration settings to each 4500 clock selected and will require some time to complete the downloads. Therefore, this option is only recommended for customers who have a minimal number of 4500 clocks observing DST.Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 11

  • Option 2

Download and run the DST utility that enhances the Download Date and Time to Timeclocks option to additionally send the DST settings to a 4500 clock along with the current date/time. To download this utility, do the following:

    Go to the customer portal: http://customer.kronos.com/dstDepending on your version, download one of the following libraries:Version 4.1: DSTV4107Version 5.0: DSTV5007Version 5.1: DSTV5107Version 5.2: DSTV5207

These libraries contain the source and objects for CLK712 & CLK712STSJ. These objects can either be restored or compiled to your TIMEKEEPER library.

Once the appropriate objects have been placed in your TIMEKEEPER library, you may do one of the following:- Run the option manually and choose to send the date/time to the necessary clock(s).

Depending on your version, from the Time Clock Communications menu, run the following option:

Version 4.1: Set Date and Time of Time ClocksVersion 5.x: Download to Time Clocks > Download Date and Time to Timeclocks

    - Schedule the option to run on the IBM Job Scheduler- At a command line type WRKJOBSCDE.- On the Work with Job Schedule Entries screen, press F6 ADD.- On the Add Job Schedule Entry screens, fill in the parameters listed below... Job Name: User definable. (Example: SENDTIME).. Command to Run: SBMJOB CMD(CALL PGM(CLK712STSJ)) JOB(CLKSNDTIM) JOBD(QGPL/DSTJOBD) INLLIBL(*JOBD).. Frequency: *ONCE.. Schedule Date: [date desired].. Schedule Day: *NONE.. Schedule Time: [time desired]- Press F10 and PAGE DOWN.. Job Description: DSTJOBD.. All other fields should remain at their default value.

Press ENTER.Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 12

  • Step 6 - Log Communications during Changeover 0

As a precaution for troubleshooting purposes, Kronos recommends setting the Log Communications to XML File flag to Y for each clock that observes a time change on the evening before the time change. The field is located on the General Configuration Options screen of Clock File Maintenance.

Should an issue arise with the DST adjustments, the resulting log file will contain information useful to Kronos Technical Support. After the change has taken place, reset the Log Communications to XML File flag to N.Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 13

  • Step 7 - Confirm Terminal Entry Application Configuration 0

The Kronos iSeries Terminal Entry application relies upon three components to successfully handle the DST time change, depending on your situation:

DST table properly configuredTime Clock Maintenance: - For any workstations NOT defined in Time Clock Maintenance, the CODSDT field in the CKCOMPAN file set to proper value.- For any workstations defined in Time Clock Maintenance, correct Time Zone and Observe DST settingsThe Time Adjust Program successfully scheduled and run - see Step 9 - Schedule the Time Adjust Program on page 18

Energy Policy Act of 2005 - U.S. in 2007 - v5r3m0 or higher 0The Energy Policy Act of 2005 changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. Formerly, DST began on the first Sunday in April and ended the last Sunday in October. Beginning in 2007, DST will begin on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November.

Please confirm with your IT Administrator to insure that the iSeries platform has been updated to perform the DST time change on the revised dates for 2008.

DST Table 0The Terminal Entry application uses the DST Table in the same manner as the 400 and 4500 Terminals. If you use the Terminal Entry application exclusively, the DST Table must still be properly configured for the daylight saving adjustments to occur. Refer to Step 2 - Establish the DST Table on page 3 and Step 9 - Schedule the Time Adjust Program on page 18.

Workstations NOT defined in Time Clock Maintenance 0Refer to iSeries Timekeeper Terminal Entry Users Reference manual for conditions requiring workstation setup in Clock Maintenance.

If you have any workstations that are NOT defined in Time Clock Maintenance, you need to verify the date field CODSDT in the company file CKCOMPAN. The system will update this field with the date of the DST change at the appropriate time and then use it to determine necessary adjustments for punches coming from non-defined devices. It is imperative that this date field NOT contain the date of the DST change prior to the actual change date. Therefore, to ensure proper adjustments, it is a good precautionary measure to verify the contents of the CODSDT field prior to the change date and make sure it does not contain the date of NEXT DST change. Either make sure the field contains the date of the last DST change, or simply blank it out.

The CODSDT field is no longer included in the user interface and must be updated with a database utility. You could use the following steps to verify the field with IBMs Data File Utility:Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 14

  • 1. Make sure the Kronos libraries are in your interactive sessions library list: CLOCxxxxxx TIMEGLOBAL TIMEKEEPER

    2. From the iSeries command line, type UPDDTA CKCOMPAN and press ENTER.3. Press PAGE DOWN and then press ENTER.4. In the right column you will see a field with the description DAYL SAVINGS DATE. If this field

already contains the DST change date for which youre preparing, blank out the field, or change the date to a previous date.

    5. If you made changes to the date field, press the ENTER key nine times to replace the record.6. Press F3 to exit.7. Press ENTER to end the session.

    Example:

In the year 2008, after DST goes into effect on 03/09/08, you will see 03/09/08 in the CODSDT field until DST goes out of effect on 11/02/08. So, going into the DST expiration date of 11/02/08, the CODSDT field would contain 03/09/08, which is accurate. After DST expires, you would see 11/02/08 in the CODSDT field which will be accurate until the following spring in 2009.

In this example, if the CODSDT field is set to 11/02/08 too early, that is, already set to 11/02/08 going into 11/02/08, there would be a possibility of premature adjustments to punches occurring on shifts that cross the 11/02/08 DST change.

Workstations defined in Time Clock Maintenance 0Verify any iSeries workstations that are optionally defined as clocks in Clock Maintenance, have the correct Time Zone and Observe DST settings.

Refer to iSeries Timekeeper Terminal Entry Users Reference manual for conditions requiring workstation setup in Clock Maintenance.

Time Adjustment Program 0Refer to Step 9 - Schedule the Time Adjust Program on page 18Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 15

  • Step 8 - Confirm Employee Application Configuration 0

The Kronos iSeries employee application relies upon three components to successfully handle the DST time change for TIMESTAMP entry mode employees (DST not applicable for Start/Stop or Duration mode employees):

DST table properly configuredThe CODSDT field in the CKCOMPAN file set to proper valueThe Time Adjust Program successfully scheduled and run

DST Table 0The Employee application uses the DST Table in the same manner as the 480 and 4500 Terminals. If you use the Employee application exclusively, the DST Table must still be properly configured for the daylight saving adjustments to occur. Refer to Step 2 - Establish the DST Table on page 3.

CODSDT field in CKCOMPAN 0The system will update this field with the date of the DST change at the appropriate time and then use it to determine necessary adjustments for punches coming from non-defined devices. Time Adjustment Program 0Refer to Step 9 - Schedule the Time Adjust Program on page 18Kronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 17

  • Step 9 - Schedule the Time Adjust Program 0

This job performs the following assuming the Observe DST field in the DST table is set to Y:

(See Step 2 - Establish the DST Table on page 3 for more information)

    1. Toggles the Daylight Saving Time Currently in Effect Y/N field. This field can be checked by typing call clkdstcl from the command line. If you have installed Kronos iSeries Central since the last time change, you need to set this field accordingly. If DST is currently in effect in the host's time zone, set it to Y. If not set it to N.

(See Step 2 - Establish the DST Table on page 3 for more information)

    2. Updates the CODSDT field in the CKCOMPAN files with the date of the DST time changeKronos iSeries Daylight Saving Time Users Guide 18

  • 3. Changes the system values for QTIME and QUTCOFFSET depending on operating system version:

    - v5r2m0 or lower: system values QUTCOFFSET and QHOUR are adjusted. If, for any reason, you do not want these values adjusted, they must be manually adjusted back after the Time Adjust program runs.

    - v5r3m0 or higher: the system values QUTCOFFSET and QHOUR are no longer available for change. You need to retrieve and install the patch to prevent the Time Adjustment program from halting during processing with an error message. Note: your IT Administrator needs to verify the QTIMZON system value is properly set for the DST time change for the new dates.

Creating the DSTJOBD iSeries job description 0Kronos recommends that you create an iSeries job description called DSTJOBD in order to provide the Kronos application library list for the CLKDSTADJ job to run.
