Dr. Sampadananda Mishra Dr. Sampadananda Mishra, a free-lance researcher, hails from a Brahmin family of Orissa. He was initiated to Sanskrit by his grandfather, Pandit Paramananda Mishra. He came in contact with Sanskrit from his very childhood. It was the purity of the sounds of Sanskrit which has always inspired him to go deeper and deeper into various realms of it. In 1993, after finishing his post- graduation in Sanskrit from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, he came to do his M.Phil in Sanskrit in Podicherry Central University. There he was awarded Gold Medal for is excellent performance in the subject. In 1995, he got an invitation to work for an important project, “The Wonder that is Sanskrit”, undertaken by Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry. Inspired by the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, he decided to spend his entire life in Puducherry, working in the field of Sanskrit. Apart from his Research works in Sanskrit: 1. He takes evening classes in the Ashram School for the Ashramites and Ashram related people. 2. He also has taken up the responsibility of the publication of the teaching of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother in Oriya in the form of booklets. He helps the Ashram Press in proof-reading these texts.

Dr. Sampadananda Mishra

4. He conducts workshops, teacher’s training programmes, orientation courses for

those who are interested in propagating Sanskrit in the light of Sri Aurobindo and

the Mother.

5. He keeps visiting various places in India to give talks, attend conferences,

present research papers, and conduct workshops on topics related to Sanskrit.

6. He writes popular articles related to India and Sanskrit in English, Oriya and

Sanskrit.

In the past twelve years he has worked on and completed the following projects:

1. Sri Aurobindo and Sanskrit (published in the form of a book)

2. The Wonder that is Sanskrit ((published in the form of a book as well as

CDRom)

3. “The Century of Life” of Sri Aurobindo with original verses of Bhartrihari

(book)

4. Chandovallari – A Handbook of Sanskrit Prosody (book with audio)

5. “Hasymanjari” A book of humorous stories in Sanskrit written by himself

6. Sanskrit and the Evolution of Human Speech – A book based on Sri

Aurobindo’s linguistic thoughts. (Before publication this was submitted to the

Utkal University for his Doctoral Degree)

7. Stotravali – A collection of beautiful stotras in Sanskrit.

8. Sri Aurobindo and Vedic Riks, serially got published in Mother India in thirty

six issues

9. Srimadbhagavadgita in the Light of Sri Aurobindo – A CD-Rom

10. Sri Aurobindopanishad – A book in Oriya

11. Sri Aurobindopanishad – An audio CD containing the recitation of

Sri Aurobindopanishad in the voice of Sampadananda

12. Shyama Smaranam – An audio CD containing hymns of Krishna

At present he has a plan to work on several other projects like:

Upanishads in the light of Sri Aurobindo

Tantras in the light of Sri Aurobindo

Vedas in the light of Sri Aurobindo

Root-sounds of Sanskrit

Ashtavadhanam

Sanskrit and Speech-pathology

Apart from his regular works he also has taken up the responsibility of editing all the

works of Vasishtha Ganapati Muni (the Guru of Kapali Sastri) of which ten volumes

have been published and another two waiting for publication.

He is the Academic Adviser of Vedic Research Unit of Satyachetana Ashram,

Tiruvannamali, Tamilnadu.

He is also one of the Trustees, Gitagovinda Pratisthanam, Pondicherry.
