4 WAY TEST

For Rotary, The Four-Way Test is the cornerstone of all action. It has been for years, and it will be in the future. Of the things we think, say or do

As Rotarians, we should have The Four-Way Test in mind in every decision we make, all day long. Our utmost responsi-bility is to Speak The Truth, to Be Fair, to Build Goodwill and Better Friendships, and to do our very best in all situations.

4 Way Test was developed in 1932 by

Herbert J. Taylor.

---- 1 ---- Is it the TRUTH?

---- 2 ----Is it FAIR to all concerned?

---- 3 ----

Will it build GOODWILL and

better FRIENDSHIPS?

---- 4 ----Will it be BENEFICIAL

to all concerned?

FROM THE SEPTEMBER 26 MEETING

Yo u ’ v e L o s t T h a t

LOVING FEELING President Ron Kohl called the meeting to order at approx. 7:25am. Ron reflected on last week’s meeting topic, his young adult son and the time to age 70. He also noted that a quarter of his term as our President has already passed and how time is just flying by. He introduced Rotarian of the day Jay Hatfield. Jay recognized Rick Clark and showed his video of “The Unrighteous Brothers” singing their hit “You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling.” You may remember that Jay had a Cousin who was in a music group in the 60’s that covered that song with moderate success.

Jennifer Schaffer moderated the introduction of the many guests.

Rick Binder: Alyssa Davis; Linda Stouffer: Friend and client Scott Aries; Brett Morey: Tom Stocking from TCI. He is here for the second time and considering membership. Brett also brought Raul De La Torre an Industrial Engineer looking for Employee Opportunities in San Diego; Pam Russell: Tim Billings from Embassy Suites and a former Rotarian from San Luis Obispo; Dr. Antonio Grillo: his wife Maria; and finally Rick Clark had two guests: Dawne Clark of US Trust and Javier Clark from the City of San Diego. (That’s a nice group of Clarks!!!)

President Ron reviewed a few new club policies and items of note:

1. When a member brings a guest the member pays for the first breakfast. That way a guest’s first meal is free. If that guest eventually joins then the member is reimbursed for the

meal. Also, for children guests: Children under 6 are free, from 7-15 are ½ price and all others full price.

2. A person is considered a “new Member for the first 18 months

3. He thanked Dory for compiling the list of members who will open up their homes in the event of a disaster. Both members that will and will not accept large snakes.

Member Announcements: Bev Fritschner: the Seven Bridges Hike and pot luck on 11/15. Also a great way to get to meet and know other club members better. Also, we need a good showing of members from our group for the next District Conference Meeting. Dave Wiegman: The Casa De Paz project on October 18. Help improve the living situation of orphans in Mexico. They also need donations of food and non-perishable food. A great trip for charity, fellowship and fun. This is President Ron’s pet project.

Kim Schaffer then made a special introduction of Naymana Suleman. She is a Rotary Scholar in the Masters Peace and Justice Program at USD. Naymana made a few comments regarding her activities.

Steve Brown gave a presentation of a dues increase proposal also tied to the cost of living. It was voted on and passed by the members. He then gave a detailed, (too detailed to try to recount) account of some International projects. As was noted during his presentation, “the meeting notetaker” was overwhelmed by the depth

of Steve’s report and is just filing in the

basic details caught…..sorry Steve!

Brett Morey presented Rick Clark

with his 4th Paul Harris Award. Rick

dedicated it to his children… with his son

Javier receiving the pin and certificate.

Congratulations and thank you!!!

The vast fortunes of our members

were preserved for a week when in the

interest of time, Fine Master Mike

Schwartz was prempted from the

program.

Erik introduced the main speaker:

Shawn Dewitt. He is the Director

of Brewery Operations at Coronado

Breweries. They have been in business

for 18 years. They are now in the process

of opening up a new facility in Imperial

Beach. He talked in detail about the beer

festivals and how they learned that there

is a definite strategy in how you enter your

beers to win awards. He recounted the

exciting story of how they have started

to win the awards and international

recognition for his beers, including a

competition in Chile. Coronado is doing

very well and last year was their best year.

They have now moved into the top group

of Brewers and along with that success

have now had to plan for the higher

level of quality control and business

management that goes along with that

volume of business and success.

President Ron concluded the meeting

with a nice thought for the coming week.
