According to my knowledge Resourcefulness is being able to be proactive and imaginative to respond to a

difficult situation in life.

I was recruited by a multinational firm few years back for the factory accounts department as a trainee.

My initial task was to streamline the process of the department structure to improve the flexibility and

quality of the work space and time. In order to do this, I had to implement 5S practices to the department.

I faced a critical problem of convincing department employees to agree to carry out 5S implementation

without interrupting daily workload.

First of all using my analytical mind I sketched a plan to carry out this task by identifying work

environment of all employees of the department and I used that information to execute my

implementation process of 5S practices. While doing this I had to stop the process in between several

times due to lack of support by employees understandably because of the interruption during working

hours. But with my courage and determination and also with the teachings of a great consultant lecturer to

Toyota Japan in our institute, helped me to get through difficult times and I have been able to complete

this task within one month.

I believe that implementation helped a lot to reduce the process time inside the department and improved

the quality level of the working environment too.

I have often pondered this question: If I could meet any historical figure, who would I choose? My

answer has varied a lot throughout the course of my life. I must say though, that in recent years, myanswer has been the same: Mahatma Gandhi.

I find his story to be absolutely fascinating. He believed strongly in expanding human being'scapacity to love and to give. He also believed very strongly in devoting oneself to helping others. I

find that incredibly inspirational. He believed that it was a privilege to give. What a wonderful way

to think of giving.

He also was a strong believer in peace. It was his dream to see peace in the world. I can only hope

that someday his dream may become a reality.

Last year group leader of our assignment group was displaying a lot of aggressive behavior,

including dominating team meetings, belittling other people’s ideas and not cooperating. I

approached the rest of my colleagues about him and soon realized everyone was feeling the same

as I was. We decided not to take the matter to our supervising lecturer until we had the

opportunity to talk to him first. So we decided that at our next meeting we would raise these

issues with him. I was chosen to initiate the discussion. At the meeting I avoided personalizing

the problem and I avoided using inflammatory language. I also adopted an upbeat and optimistic

tone. The results were better than we anticipated. He thanked me for the delicate manner in



which I raised the issues and also thanked us all for talking to him first before taking it further.

After our meeting, his behaviors changed markedly for the better.
