24 Objectives Learn the verb to bring. Practise telling the time. Practise spelling. Review the numbers. Review the weather vocabulary. Materials Audio material Timer/stopwatch Recommended Extra Activities Activity Book, p. 2 Teacher’s Resource Book, Diagnostic Test, p. 4 Fast Finishers: Have students write their own true or false exercise for the picture in Activity 1 of their Pupil’s Book. Teacher Tips: Explain the difference between to bring and to take to your students. For example, we ask people to bring things to us but we ask them to take things to other people. Remind students that bring is pronounced “bring”, with a short isound. Remember that having students repeat the correct answers after making a mistake will a) help clarify the correct way to say something, b) help undo any bad habits that students might have, and c) help increase confidence as students have time to assimilate the target language. MISSI N 1: Read and say true or false. Then correct the false sentences. 2 Sing and clap! 3 1.2 1.1 Bring your umbrella! Look and compare the pictures. 1 1 It’s raining at the beach. False. It’s windy at the beach. 2 It’s hot in the mountains. 3 It’s stormy in the mountains. 4 Yessy’s cold. 5 Noella’s cold. 6 It’s cold at the beach. Tell me! Tell me! What’s the weather like? Is it sunny or stormy? Can I ride my bike? What’s the weather like? Can you see? Is it raining or is it foggy? Please tell me! What’s the weather like? I want to know! Is there rain or is there snow? Tell me the weather and the temperature, please. It’s hot, it’s sunny and it’s twenty degrees! 4 four Mission 1 0 LET’S START! 0 LET’S START! Refresh • DRILL CD1 1 Cooperative learning Divide the class into three teams, team one is a quarter past, team two is half past and team three is a quarter to. Then shout out a number between 1 and 12. For example, TEACHER: 6 TEAM 1: It’s a quarter past six! TEAM 2: It’s half past six! TEAM 3: It’s a quarter to six! When you point at all three teams, everybody must shout out It’s six o’clock! 1 Look and compare the pictures. Cooperative learning PB Split each team from the previous activity in half so that you have six teams. Each team gets one minute to look at the picture in their Pupil’s Book and write down all the weather words that they see. Then give them one minute to prepare a small presentation. The fastest team with the best presentation and the most correctly written weather words wins. Objective in Focus 1 DRILL CD1 2 What? Practise the verb to bring. Why? Students often confuse the verbs to bring and to take. How? Shout out a weather word and a clothing word. Then point at a student who has to form a sentence as if they’re advising a friend about the weather over the phone. For example, TEACHER: cold – jumper STUDENT: It’s cold! Bring your jumper. Back to Basics • Say the following numbers and have students write them down and say them back to you: 10, 13, 30, 15, 50, 62, 43, 28, 79, 84, 99. 2 Read and say true or false. Then correct the false sentences. PB Have students look at the picture in their Pupil’s Book for about 30 seconds. Then have them close their books and form a line in front of you in the middle of the class. Read out the sentences from the Pupil’s Book. Students have to remember if they’re true or false. If a sentence is true, students move to the left side of the class and touch the wall. If it’s false, they move to the right side, touch the wall and shout out the corrected sentence. Check all answers as you go. Objective in Focus 2 DRILL CD1 3 What? Practise the verbs to bring and to take. Why? Students must learn that you ask people to bring things to you and take things to others. How? Have each student take out one classroom object and form two lines, one on the left side of the classroom and one on the right. Stand at the front of the class and tell students to bring you something or to take something to the other line. As students perform the drill, they chant what they’re doing. For example, TEACHER: Bring me a ruler. STUDENT: I’m bringing you a ruler. I’m bringing you a ruler, I’m bringing you, I’m bringing you, I’m bringing you a ruler! 3 Sing and clap! PB CD1 1 PB CD1 2 Cooperative learning PB Play the audio and have students listen to the song and sing along. When you feel they know the lyrics and the tune, put them into groups of four and tell them to choose a different style to sing the song. Play the karaoke version and have each group sing the song in their style. Game – Speedy Spelling • Cooperative learning Put students into six groups. Say a weather word and each group has to spell the word, with one student saying one letter at a time. For example, TEACHER: windy STUDENT 1: W! STUDENT 2: I! STUDENT 3: N! STUDENT 4: D! STUDENT 5: Y! Time teams to see who can go the fastest. Other words you can use are sunny, raining, cloudy, stormy, snowing and hot.
