Benefits
Developed for challenges in an ever-changing mining environment
The Dräger Mine Rescue Vehicle (MRV) is an innovative solution based on the needs of an ever-changing mining environment. Mines evolve, they expand and get deeper, they move further from the portal. Mine rescue teams now have longer distances to travel before they arrive at the location of the emergency and only a limited amount of time is available with the breathing apparatus. The Dräger MRV 9000 exactly targets this challenge by providing safe transportation as close as possible to the incident, without needing to activate the breathing apparatus. Consequently, the mine rescue teams have more time for their on-site mission.

Independent from ambient air Both the driver’s cabin and cassette are equipped with an air purging system. This system is independent of the ambient air and provides breathing air for the onboard personnel. Once the team has exited the vehicle equipped with personal breathing protection, the air flow in the MRV 9000 can be manually reduced for the remaining occupants. As a result, breathing air from the onboard cylinders can be conserved to provide additional time for the overall mission. Once the team returns to the MRV 9000 and the driver’s cabin and cassette have been successfully flushed, their individual breathing apparatuses are no longer required.
Monitoring system for safety underground
Internal gas monitoring reliably measures the concentrations of oxygen, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide in the ambient air and inside the vehicle. If thresholds are exceeded or fall short, the onboard personnel will be warned by visual and audio signals. Additionally, the measurement values are clearly visible in the front and in the rear of the vehicle. Thermal imaging cameras installed outside of the vehicle assist visibility in a dusty, smoky environment and can help detect trapped miners.
Combined expertise
The chassis of the Mine Rescue Vehicle has been designed by Paus, a renowned vehicle manufacturer specializing in mining applications. The chassis is well-tested, strong and robust for harsh underground mine conditions. In addition, cooperation with a specialized manufacturer enables low maintenance efforts, as Paus only uses components from other specialized mining industry suppliers. By combining the knowledge and expertise of Paus, together with the well-known competence of Dräger in the field of rescue and refuge solutions, breathing protection and gas monitoring, the MRV 9000 provides both quality and industry-specific design.
Customer driven
Close cooperation with our customers initiated and drove the development of a mine rescue solution based on the current and future challenges of a mine. The in-depth knowledge of our customer, together with our competences, made it possible to not only develop a mine rescue vehicle, but to create a customer-driven innovative solution. Each component of the mine rescue vehicle mirrors the needs of the mine rescue team in deeper and longer mines, taking mine rescue into the twenty-first century.

Dräger air purging system
The air purging system provides positive pressure inside the cassette and cabin to prevent the ingress of harmful substances. Hazardous substances are purged and breathing air flushes into the vehicle. The air purging system consists of high pressure breathing air storage, air management panels and positive pressure relief valves. The Dräger air management panels are used to adjust the flow of breathing air according to the number of personnel. The positive pressure, as well as the flow of purged air, can be monitored with gauges.

Breathing air storage
The air needed to breathe, to provide a positive pressure environment and to purge hazardous substances is stored in a vertical rack. The cylinders can be changed in a short period of time with an integrated hydraulic lift.
Electrical system / Power supply
The electrical system controls the distribution of electrical power to all sub-systems. These include: lighting, digital gas monitors (optional), thermal imaging cameras and communications. The electrical power supply is provided from the vehicle’s battery system.

Standard System Components
Dräger X-am® 7000 digital gas monitor
The Dräger X-am® 7000 monitors the gas inside the cassette and the driver’s cabin. The air is monitored for concentration of O2, CO2 and CO. Written instructions inside the cassette give clear information about which steps are to be taken in case the recommended thresholds are exceeded or not achieved.

Thermal imaging cameras and monitoring
Externally installed thermal imaging cameras help the team to orientate occupants in a dusty and smoky environment. The thermal images are projected inside the vehicle and can assist in the detection of trappedminers. Two screens can be installed in the cabin and an additional screen in the cassette. Moreover, temperature sensors installed outside the vehicle give further insight into the surrounding conditions.

Air conditioning
The air conditioning system contributes to the safety of personnel since the regulation of body temperature may be affected by high humidity. The inner unit in the cassette consists of two sub-units, each for cooling and heating.

External gas monitoring
A set of four sensors on the outside of the vehicle continuously monitor the lower explosive levels (LEL) and the O2, CO2 CO, and H2S gas levels. These values are visible for all occupants of the vehicle.
