Scene One

Incoming goods department (Artur, Sezer, Levent)

Wednesday afternoon.

Germany. A warehouse.

Artur, a young man works at his computer. Sezer - the truck driver from Norway - enters the office.

He is a tall young man. He is dressed in a safety vest. Artur Good morning Sezer Good morning. I have some goods for you. Artur Oh that's perfect. I was waiting for you, because we need the goods today. Sezer Which gate shall I take? Artur The second gate, please. Sezer Ok, thanks. The driver drives to the second gate.

Levent walks along the warehouse. He is a warehouse operator.

Artur Wait! Levent! Can you unload the truck? Levent No problem! How many paletts are on the truck? Artur There are two pallets. Levent Ok, no problem.

Levent drives the forklift to the truck.

Artur So now, I have to check the goods for the right address, quantity, quality and condition. Sezer No problem, I have enough time. You can just do your job. Artur Two pallets, that's right. The address is correct. But one paletts is damaged. I have to note it on the consigment note and we have to sign it. Sorry but I can't accept the damaged pallet. Sezer Oh, yes I see the pallet is no longer in the perfect condition. Artur Please, sign here.

Sezer signs the consignment note. Sezer Ok. My job is done. Artur Thanks. Goodbye. Sezer Goodbye.

 

 

Scene Two

Storing department (Elrik, Ceydan)

Elrik comes in and puts a package on the shelf. He is a young intern from Denmark.

He is a bit nervous: he has never worked in the warehouse before. He doesn't speak German.

Ceydan is a warehouse operator. He works in the storing department.

Ceydan doesn't know first that Elrik doesnt't speak German. Ceydan STOP! Was machst du? Elrik I am storing the goods. Ceydan I've never seen you here before. Elrik Hello, I'm Elrik. I'd like to do an internship here for the next two months. I come from Aalborg in Denmark. Ceydan Nice to meet you, Elrik. My name is Ceydan, I am the warehouse assistant. Elrik Nice to meet you too, Ceydan. Ceydan: So, what kind of goods do you have there? Elrik: I'm not sure. Let's have a look. Fragile products.

Ceydan Yes, but this is a wrong place for fragile goods. Elrik Where could I store the package? Ceydan Ok, I´ll show you where to put it. Come with me. Elrik Thank you.

Ceydan and Elrik go to the area, where the fragile goods are srored. Ceydan Here we stock all types of fragile goods. Elrik And where can I put this kind of package? Or do we need to mark it first? Ceydan Yes, of course. Here that's how you mark it. Just enter it in the computer system and put the package on the shelf.

Ceydan marks the goods. The worker and the trainee go to the next department.

 

 

Scene Three

Picking Department (Ceydan, Elrick)

Ceydan and Elrik enter the picking department.

Ceydan wants to show the young intern the warehouse. He is proud of his job and his company.

Ceydan Now we are in the picking department. Elrik I'd really like to find out more about the picking methods. Ceydan There are different possibilities to pick goods: FiFo, LiFo and HiFo. Elrik What does it mean? Ceydan FiFo means: First in - First out: Goods that came into the warehouse first leave first. Elrik Does LiFo mean Last in - First out? Ceydan You are absolutely right. Elrik What does HiFo mean? Ceydan It's highest in - First out: Goods with the highest price, leave first. It's only important for the accounting. When we receive an order, we pick the goods according to the documents and pack them. Would you like to see the packing department? Elrik Yes, please.

Ceydan leads Elrick to the packing department.

Scene Four

Packing Department (Levent, Saskia, Elrik)

Elrick enters the packing department.

Saskia - a young lady - is specialized on packing goods. Levent and Saskia explain Elrik the most important points

of packing goods. Levent Now we are in the packaging area. Here you see a table where we pack the picked goods in cartons. Elrik Could you tell me about the packaging you use for all the different products? Levent In order to protect the goods against dust, humidity and extreme temperatures we have to use different forms of packaging. For example if we have to pack fragile goods, we use polysterene, bubble wrap or cardboard scraps. Elrik Ah okay. And how do you pack dangerous goods? Saskia We pack dangerous goods the same way as fragile goods shock and impact resistant and we label these goods with the appropriate warning signs. Elrick What kind of warning signs? Saskia For example, if the center of gravity of an item is not in the middle, we put this label on it exactly at the point where the center of gravity of the product is. Elrik And what do you do when you are done? Levent: If everything is packed properly, we bring the goods in the shipping department.

Levent and Elrik leave.

 

 

   

Scene Five

Shipping department (Lena, Levent, Elrik)

Levent and Elrik enter the shipping department.

Lena stands in front of the pallets waiting for Levent. They are supposed to load the truck.

Levent Now we are in the shipping department. Lena Hello, we must load the truck. But we should be careful, the goods are fragile. Levent Okay, where is the consignment note? Lena The consignment note is here. Levent What information is in the consignment note? Lena Return adress, delivery address, invoice number, delivery note number, order number, item number, description, quantity ordered and quantity supplied. Levent Okay, that´s correct. Lena The goods must be packed properly so that they are not damaged during transport. And a copy of the consignment note must be in the package. If you have wrong goods, please don´t open the package or pack it. Now let's start loading the truck.

Levent The goods must be secured by span belts so that the goods don't slip. Elrik Thank you, I have learned a lot. Levent It was a pleasure for us.
