Nature Teach MeBy: Jason Hudson

Dear flower, teach me,To be as brave as theeThat I may bloom without fearAnd wither still without fear

Dear tree, teach meTo be as rooted and firm as theeThat I may stand strongEven when all is wrong

Dear ant, teach meTo be as honest and hard working as theeThat I may beThe best of me

Dear bird, teach meTo be as free as theeThat I may confidently soar above land and sea,Rising above all that is expected of me

Eyes of the WizardA poem by: Jason HudsonEnter now, with me, the chamber of infinite mind.Behold:The wizard sits at the table.

He asks,"Would you like to see what I see?"My heart flutters. My blood boils. And the deep I, within me, can only reply:"Yes!"But secretly I wonder: can I, a mere man, comprehend the vision of a god-man?The wizard says:" To see as I seeyou must gaze with your heart's eye,at the heaven, earth, and hell within. And when you do...then, you will see everything!"I am distraught.I cry: I don't understand!"The wizard smiles a kind, benevolent smile. He says,"Look within, look beyond.See, in your inner world, the entire universe.Gaze hard!Your eyes will sear, your heart will weepand what you see will be fleetingBut worry not, you can remember the image forever, If you but sketch it before your corporeal eyes.""That all sounds very nice," I say, slightly afraid," but I'm hardly an artist."The wizard chuckles."All men are artists," he says,"paint, ink, words, life-style, it's all the same really, all, simply a reflection of one's clarity. So go ahead...take a look.I take a deep breath.I close my corporeal eyes. And open my heart

Vaguely the deep I, within me,begins to see.Suddenly! Suddenly! Suddenly!Realization dawns.Tears trickle down my eyes."Tell me," says the wizard, "what do you see?""Beauty," I reply, my heart overwhelmed, "beauty... everywhere."

The Never Ending DreamThis piece was inspired by the authors' first meeting with esteemed Jamaican artist Barrington Watson in August 2015.I close my eyes, and my mind wandersto a time long ago...I remembera young boy, awaking to a dream. He dreams of becoming an artist. With unslumbering eyes he looks at a virgin canvas. She stares back at him, pure and waiting,With innocent lust, for a lover's gentle stroke. She is silent, but the boy hears her innermost thoughts."Please me," she seems to says, "adorn my threads, with figures, forms and hues. Pour your very soul into me!"The boy raises his brush,And stroke after strokeHe fulfillsand renews his dream.I open my eyes and the present moment fills my vision.Like then a fair canvas is bare before me, craving my touch. My experience and skill is superior to the boy in my reverie,And people call me great,But still, like then, I am dreaming.

I dream of becoming an artist.I will dream forever it seems, but I am happy with my fate.My fate is the fate of all who embrace such a dream,For art, like the river of time, flows endlessly.I dream of becoming an artist,And my dream is a never ending dream.

About the AuthorJason Hudson is an aspiring poet, writer, and illustrator residing in Mandeville, Jamaica. Jasons personal pledge is to always explore the realms of imagination and to report the truth.
