If desired, pencil in some fun designs and color them to make a picture of a painted elephant. You will need: Step-by-step guide 8 1/2" X 11" printer paper or copier paper Pencil Eraser Black Sharpie markers (fine-tipped and ultrafine-tipped) (Optional) Colored pencils or markers Print a picture of a completed drawing to show artists. Post a copy on your bulletin board to create interest in the activity. Directions: 1. Position the paper horizontally. Following the guide, sketch a large bean shape for the elephant’s body and an egg shape for the head. The bean shape should be about as long and wide as your hand. The egg shape should be about the size of an actual egg. 2. Draw a trunk, an ear, and a tail. 3. Add tusks and the front and back legs closest to the viewer. Finish the tip of the trunk. 4. Sketch the other legs. Draw smaller details to add a mouth, an eye, and a line to indicate the opening of the ear. 5. Add toenails and then create a heavier sketch line around the contour of the elephant. 6. Trace the lines you want to keep with a fine-tipped black marker. Allow the ink to dry for about 10 minutes and then erase the pencil lines.

Draw/Color an Elephant

Draw an elephant in six simple steps. If desired, pencil in some fun designs and color them to make a picture of a painted elephant.

You will need:

• Step-by-step guide

• 8 1/2" X 11" printer paper or copier paper

• Pencil

• Eraser

• Black Sharpie markers (fine-tipped andultrafine-tipped)

• (Optional) Colored pencils or markers

Print a picture of a completed drawing to show artists. Post a copy on your bulletin board to create

interest in the activity.

Directions:

Take it a few steps further:

1. Doodle designs on the elephant using a pencil.

2. Using an ultrafine-tipped black marker, trace the doodled lines. Fill someareas in with solid black as shown above.

3. Color in the remaining designs using markers or colored pencils.Here is an example.
