2018 Musical “We Will Rock You” We are in full swing with our 2018 musical, “We Will Rock You”. Relay for Life Another institution in this school is participation in the Hills Relay for Life. On Friday May 18 and Saturday May 19 Castle Hill HS students, staff and parents enthusiastically walked, supervised, cooked for and supported this worthy cause, to raise money for cancer research. I’m delighted to say that we raised over $7000.

Can I thank the many staff who participated, including Mr Terry Gainey, Ms Toni Smith, Mr Brad Tudman, Ms Jennifer Rhodes and Mr Ricky Chamberlain who not only participated, but braved the cold and precious family time to sleep overnight supporting students and the cause. Of course, as always there were many parents who gave their all for this event. What would we do without them.

I do say we are a small country town. This event, our endorsement of and participation in it, is testament of this.

Curriculum Review It has been announced that the Government will conduct a comprehensive review of the NSW curriculum, the first in 30 years. I do recall the last review, chaired by Mr Barrie McGaw, when I was asked to participate in the committee, (the then Education Minister John Aquilina wanted “a woman from the west” so for some reason I was nominated) and learned much from this experience. The aim of this current review is to ensure that students are being adequately prepared for jobs of the future, a worthy and important agenda. The premier has indicated that there will be stronger emphasis on English, Mathematics and Sciences and will seek to implement the findings of the latest David Gonski report into Australian School Education. Also, there will be an investigation of new technologies and teaching methods in delivering the curriculum. NAPLAN Students in Year 7 and 9 completed their NAPLAN tests last week. Last year the school implemented a detailed program of preparation for NAPLAN as these tests were to be used as a prerequisite for HSC achievement with a minimum standard of achievement being set. These rules changed at the beginning of this year so I am pleased to say the school approached these tests in the exact way they were intended: as a diagnostic test to provide teachers with additional data on literacy and numeracy. Pleasingly, students were ready and focused, and the organisation, thanks to the relentless work of the deputy principals, was seamless. Vicki Brewer

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability

Notification for Parents and Carers

All Government and non-Government schools across Australia are required to participate annually in

the Australian Government to assist in the development of a consistent, national picture of the

education needs of students with disability.

The data provided to the Australian Government by the NSW Department of Education is provided in

such a way that it cannot be used to identify any individual student or school.

General information about the national data collection can be found on the Australian Government

Department of Education and Training website at https://www.education.gov.au/what-nationally-

education, the number in each category of disability and the number at each level of adjustment. The

information is provided to the Commonwealth as a series of number sets that cannot be used to

identify any individual student or school.

The Australian Government Department of Education and Training follows the requirements of the

Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988 when handling any data provided by NSW Department of
