Draft
Course Development Plan
For Member Feedback
March 2016
Foreword The following draft Development Plan is the culmination of work by the
2015 Course Committee under the stewardship of Chairman Sean
Hosty. Other members of the Committee were as follows:
Donal O’Sullivan, Marcus Conroy, Serge Bruzzi, Noeleen Boylan,
Gerardine Neville, Tom Nolan & John Whiriskey.
Input was asked and given also by the following Club Representatives:
Course Manager, Course Consultant, Club Pro & General Manager.
The draft plan is primarily designed to act as a guide for future
committees of the Club to work with in the medium term and thus
prevent ad hoc changes to the Course that are not in the best interest
of the club or its playing members.
The plan represents what the Club believes is a blueprint for the agreed
development of the Course (which is the primary asset of our club) now
and into the future. The draft plan will no doubt spark debate and
opinion which is to be welcomed.
You will note that there are a number of holes, on which the current
Course Committee and Club await the Recommendations of the
Irrigation Sub Committee, before finalising plans and costs. We expect
these recommendations to be made in the short to medium term and
these will be combined into the next phase of the planning process
along with Member Feedback.
It is acknowledged that the club may have a requirement to replace
Irrigation pipework which in some areas is Circa 50/60 years old but
again decisions on such replacements can only be taken upon
completion of the irrigation Sub Committees Report &
Recommendations and after Approval by the Membership.
Costs associated with the proposed plan are not included now as the
Club wishes the focus of member feedback to be purely on the
suggested developments at this stage.
No version of the plan will proceed without detailed costing’s being
available and without the Agreement of the Membership via the
appropriate Forum.
It is envisaged that this plan would be completed in a timeframe that
allows for it to be done without borrowing i.e. from annual
development funds as they become available.

Committee can engage direct / clarify suggestions made if needed.

Hole 1
Winter Programme Works - N/a
Long Term Proposals / * Proposals Pending Final Recommendation of Irrigation Sub Committee
- 1) * To enlarge lake on left so as to allow for extra water storage
And / Or
- 2) * To close in the Water Channels in front of Ladies Tee & pipe this water to an enlarged lake left
of 1st or left of 2nd and/or new lake right of 4th – See Holes 2 & 4 - To improve hole for ladies, give
further water storage and allow for possible re-routing of pathway away from back of 4 – See Hole
4 & below
And / Or
- 3) * Close the water channel left of path and create new lake right of path and enlarge by 15/20
yards toward 2nd and 4th greens and to remove the Trees at back of 4th and replace with raised
mound to open view to 1st fairway and toward 2nd tee box and to increase teeing space
Drainage Works
- None
Boundary Works
- Smaller profile to be tacked onto the current fence as far as 2nd tee box on H&S Grounds
Planting Works
- None
Hole 2
Winter Programme Works - Let collar of rough left of green grow out. Reason is to minimise “roll off” into lake
Long Term Proposals / * Proposals Pending Final Recommendation of Irrigation Sub Committee
- * To look at the Inclusion of an additional lake between the 2nd & 4th greens which would be fed
from the existing drains on the 1st fairway (which would be closed in so that the water is diverted
underground) See No 3 1st Hole. Reasons are to make more of a visual hole, to reduce “bail out” &
to Increase water storage
Or
- * To extend the green back left to take in more of the pond on the LHS of the hole to improve the
hole and give greater pin placement options
Drainage Works
- None
Boundary Works
- See Hole 1
Planting Works
- None
Hole 3

out rough on RHS by approx. same width – to keep golfers away from 4th hole
- Remove the 1st set of scraggy gorse after the fairway bunker – to enhance look of hole
Long Term Proposals
- * Remove Pockets of Furze from RHS of Hole and create 2 /3 pathways through remaining furze
Drainage Works
- None

extension of fencing beyond the finish of the current fence to driving range so as to protect the SAC
& protect the course from unwanted entrants. This is currently being re-looked at re re-application
with a lower fence.
