Cancer Ward, Children’s Hospital

Providing anticancer drugs, IV globulin etc. through Asian Pediatric Cancer Fund.

During visits, we found that Lao children with cancer were not adequately treated. Dr. HY Shin opened a Pedaitric Cancer Ward (2012.8) and provided anticancer drugs.

at SNUCH

(2016.10-2017.2)

Together with Lao Pediatricians, we made a diagnosis of congenital RTA in a bed-ridden girl. She could walk within 3 months of treatment of Alkali. But she needed orthopedic correction for all 4 extremities due to severe deformities. During her stay in SNUCH, all the fellows training at the period helped her very much.

Challenges

Page 29: Dr. LEE Jong-wook - Seoul Project

Challenges I

Language is the most difficult problem.

Some fellows have difficulties to understand

English medical terminology.

- Teaching session on English medical terminology

was arranged. 2017.7-8

Page 30: Dr. LEE Jong-wook - Seoul Project

Challenges II

Fellows do not have Korean license that they

usually are not directly involved in clinical

practice.

D,D.S. Amphayvanh (Fellow of 2016)

Page 31: Dr. LEE Jong-wook - Seoul Project

Challenges III

Clinical Training of Dr. LJW-Seoul Project is on

Subspecialty level.

- Some of Lao fellows (General Physicians, not Specialists)

- Level of pre-training experience may not

be enough.

Discrepancy in situation is expected between the

training experience in Korea, and Laos on return.

Page 32: Dr. LEE Jong-wook - Seoul Project

Future Plans

Page 33: Dr. LEE Jong-wook - Seoul Project

Dr. LJW-Seoul Project is mainly for health professionals in central level.

But our fellows should be able to

Contribute to the general health of Laos !

- Better education to their students

- Providing good and practical TOT programs for

provincial health personnel.

- Development of innovative new programs.

- etc.

Education Workshop on

(Mechanical Ventilation)

Organized by Dr. Latdavanh (Fellow of 2015) and was supported by PICU/NICU,

Mahosot Hospital in August 15-16, 2016.

It was timely since Lao government provided respirators to the hospitals before the

workshop period.

This year, 2nd workshop on mechanical ventilation was also held.

Page 36: Dr. LEE Jong-wook - Seoul Project

Publication of Journals

It is essential to have own journals for improving

academic achievements.

Lao Medical Journal is the only official journal in Laos.

We would like to support

- publishing “Lao Pediatric Journal” for instance.

- It may be practical to start with Case reports, Review articles.

We think e-publication using Lao Space is a possible

option.

This activity should be initiated by Lao Colleagues to

be successful.
