Principal’s Message Mrs. Mitsopoulos Dr. Clark Families, We had an exciting January with many events going on. On January 24, we celebrated our new Breakfast Club partnership with Breakfast Club of Canada and sponsor Pembina Pipeline. It was a wonderful event with a number of special guests who came in to prepare and serve our students a healthy breakfast. We are very thankful to receive support from Breakfast Club of Canada as well as our ongoing sponsors Rotary Club of Fort McMurray Oilsands and Breakfast for Learning. We send a special thank you to our staff and parent volunteers who help out daily to ensure this program is a success: Cora Johnston, Yvette Dowd, Tammy Hayter and Cavelle Hann. There are lots of opportunities to be involved in our school this month: Inline Skating Family Night, Family Literacy Night, school assembly, supervising skiing at Vista Ridge, or volunteering with our breakfast program. Healthy Cup

Each month the Health/ APPLE committee will award the Healthy Cup to a class who comes up with a healthy initiative for their class or the school.

Arriving Early for School/ECDP?

Early for school (before 8:30) or afternoon ECDP (before 12:30)? A reminder that the front doors open at 8:30am. This is when staff are available to superviseoutside, bootrooms and/or the Kindergarten and foyer areas. While waiting to go to class both in the morning and afternoon (ECDP), please have children sit on the benches. Running and climbing on the benches, stairs, ramp, etc. could result in injury to your child and others. Thank you for your cooperation.

SOS After School Sports program The SOS After School Sports Program started on January 4th students grades 4-6. 16 participants signed up to join this free program offered through Some Other Solutions. Students get to learn about sportsmanship, cooperation, the concept of playing with

friends outside of school, through fun and organized play. They even learn about healthy eating and developing leadership skills, teamwork, discipline and inclusiveness.

A reminder of the new drop off zone. Please drive as forward as you can in the drop off lane. Drivers remain in vehicles while students exit and walk in the designated walk area. The drop off lane (no parking) is in effect for the morning drop off time only (8:00 to 10:00). After this time the area becomes parallel parking.

Are you dressed for winter?

Parent Council Hello Dr. Clark families! We would like to take this opportunity to tell you about a couple of events that are coming up very soon. Our AR store is scheduled to take place on March 14th and 15th. All students in grades 2-6 read books to earn points that can be spent on rewards at the store. The more they read, the more points they earn! This is a wonderful incentive for your children to pick up a book on their own or to spend some time together reading with you. We are also excited to announce that on April 21 we will be holding a Paint Nite fundraiser at the school. This is a very fun and relaxing evening of guided painting to create your very own masterpiece! Tickets and details will be available very soon. Parent Council would like to warmly welcome Melissa Burpee, who joins us as our new secretary. Thank you Melissa for stepping into this role. The next Parent Council meeting will take place at the school on February 7 at 2pm. All parents are welcome to attend. We are excited have your input and hear your ideas.


Pink Shirt Day is February 21 at Dr. Clark School

Kindness is universal - a trait we encourage everyone to openly express every

day. The phrase “Make Nice,” acts as a friendly reminder that no matter what

our differences, kindness is always a choice worth making. Being kind and

“making nice” is the underlying philosophy behind Pink Shirt Day.
