NEW DELHI, Dec 10: Lashing out at regional
transport offices (RTOs), UnionMinister Nitin Gadkari todaytermed them as the most corruptin the country and said theyindulge in loots bigger thanthose of dacoits of Chambal.
"RTO is the most corruptorganisation in the country. Theyare indulged in loot surpassingeven what the dacoits did in theforests of Chambal," Road,Transport and Highways MinisterNitin Gadkari said today whilegiving vent to his anger over largescale corruption at RTOs.
Peeved at delay in imple-mentation of the new motor law,he said once the Road Transportand Safety Bill is enacted, it willreform the entire sector.
The vested interests opposed totransparency and computerisationin the transport sector are againstthe new bill and "I am pained tosay" that RTO officials have pro-voked ministers in the states tooppose the bill, he said at the JagranForum of Dainik Jagran here.
"I feel guilty conscious...Nowhere driving licences can be
obtained so easily as in India.Thirty per cent of these are boguslicences," he said adding that the
racket by RTOs was behind opposi-tion to the Bill and was behind thepropaganda that the Centre would
infringe upon their rights.The states are on board now and
once the new law is enacted, it willchange the transport sector with elec-tronic driving licensens, online per-mits and other reforms, he said.(PTI)
