RESEARCH/CONSULTING
BRIC Countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) Economic
Development and Business Investment Environment:
In addition to having conducted numerous in-country consulting
assignments in the BRIC countries in support of both multinational
corporation market entry and local company business development, I have
conducted in-depth academic research on the emergence of the BRIC
countries as major players in the twenty first century global economic and
business environment and on the activities of eight major global industries,
within the BRIC countries, and led in-country graduate student consulting
projects for local and multinational companies.
Techno-Readiness for E-Business and E-Government
Recent research involves a comprehensive study of the demographic,
psychographic and multi-cultural factors influencing the adoption of new
technology, especially technology related to the Internet. Several academic
papers are in the preparation stage and numerous discussions with leading
corporations and government entities (with the potential to be case studies)
are underway.
E-Business Market Potential Assessment
Several consulting assignments have resulted in the development of a
unique methodology for assessing the market potential for e-business in
various countries around the world. Further research in the application of
this methodology has the potential for academic publication.
E-Transformation
Building on the base of IBM’s Framework for E-Business and E-Business
Cycle, I have been interviewing and documenting the ways in which
corporations are successfully implementing e-transformation of their
businesses and, as part of this research, have hosted two major symposia on
“E-Transformation, Getting It Right and Getting It Done.”
Foreign Direct Investment Decisions and Practices
I have authored several papers and conducted multiple surveys of
multinational corporations concerning the decision making processes of
multinational corporations in regard to directly investing outside their home
country. This research has been on-going for over twenty years and I have
16
Dr. Charles Newman
compiled a unique and extensive data base of responses and continue to tap
this data for future papers and books.
International Portfolio Investment
Research involving a comprehensive 10 year review of the performance of
emerging stock markets in relationship to a systematic assessment of their
socio-political, economic and financial environments. Several papers are in
preparation.
LDC Debt for Equity Swaps
As one of the early developers of debt for equity swaps in less developed
countries I have done both academic and industry studies of this subject and
have developed a method of relating the risk arbitrage between financial
institutions and multinational companies to predict conditions for debt for
equity swaps. This methodology has been utilized by various banks and
governmental agencies in establishing debt for equity programs.
Emerging markets young professionals class.
On behalf of several consulting clients, I have developed an extensive data
base of information on the young professionals market segment in over 50
emerging market countries. Now I am analyzing this data in order to test
various hypotheses for academic publication.
