the 2 points of view? What was Alex trying to convince his
Mum to let him do? What was the Mum’s opinion in the text?
Draw the characters, write their different points of view
(opinion) in a speech bubble coming out of their mouths.
NOT reasons JUST point of view.
Activity 2: Reasons in ‘ I Wanna Iguana’
Watch: I Wanna Iguana
Rule a page with 2 columns, labelled Alex and Mum. Choose 2-5
reasons that both Alex and his mum gave for WANTING or
NOT WANTING an iguana as a pet? Write them in dot points
(to use in Writing)
emphasising your voice when there’s punctuation, bold writing and

How Far Underground?
How High Up in the Mountains?
For example; you might explore the
layers of the rainforest biome and
the animals that live there, from
the dark forest floor to the emergent layer.
Task: Discuss the biome layers you find in the text. Using the
booklet template, select ONE level of the environment to illustrate
ON EACH PAGE. Write the subheading and label the habitat and
animals that live there. Focus on presenting neatly.
WRITING Persuas
Warm-up: Practice starting each letter in the correct
spot by tracing your finger in between the tracks on the
handwriting cards. If you can’t print, you can practice
forming them correctly in a sprinkle bag, sand box or
flour on a tray.Use the dotted thirds ground-grass-sky

them you must have a new toy.
Extension: Edit your writing using the persuasive phrases
by making sure you have included some of these ideas.
Activity 4 & 5: Presenting Facts in an information text.
Use your labelled pictures from Activity 4-5-Reading to
create your own factual sentences to include in your
booklet
The forest floor is dark and cold and not much
grows there. Beetles, worms, bugs and slugs hide
in the dirt and eat the dead leaves.
The canopy is the top layer of the rainforest,
where many large birds live.
Remember: Take pride in your presentation. Use neat
handwriting, spaces between words, capital letters to begin
your sentences and full stops at the end of each sentence.
MATHS
You will need: partner, paper, pencil, 6-sided dice, 100s chart
Draw up a 3 x 3 grid. Write numbers 4-9 anywhere
in the grid. You can write numbers more than once.
Roll the dice. Count back to take this number away
from 10. Cross the answer off one at a time, on your
grid. Repeat.
The winner is the person who marks off all numbers first.
Challenge : Use the numbers 8-18 in the bingo grid and roll 2
dice and subtract these 2 numbers from 20 to find the
answer.
You will need: pack of cards, partner
This is played like normal Snap, but players ‘Snap’
when the card, placed on another card, is 2 less.
eg; if you put down a 3, you snap if the next number is 1 OR
if a player puts down 9, you snap if the next number is 7 etc.
Activity 3: Recording Subtraction Equations.
You will need: deck of cards, Maths book, 100s chart
Select two playing cards to get two numbers.
Record the equation, taking away the smaller number
from the larger number.
Using your hundreds chart or a number line, count on
OR count back to solve the problem.
Extension: Put a 1or 2 in front of the larger number to make
it a 2 digit number.
Activity 4: Subtraction - Finding the Difference.
Watch: Find the difference between two single-digit numbers
Watch for an Extension: Subtraction finding the difference
Task: use blocks or lego pieces and complete your own
subtraction problems to find the difference.
Create: Your own subtraction worded problem. Use the Think
Board, write your own ‘Find the Difference’ story and show how
you solved it. See below for some examples.
Activity 5- Finding the Difference - ‘All Out!’
You will need: deck of cards, counters (or 10 cent pieces,
m&ms, skittles... anything you like), partner
Player 1 selects 2 cards from a stack of cards, they
subtract the smaller number from the larger
number, and pay up the difference to Player 2
(counters or m&ms etc)
Swap and continue playing until the first player has
lost all their counters and is ‘all out’!
Speis acti: STEM/ICT:
Hello Year 1 Legends! For your STEM/ICT assignment
this week I would like you to practice your keyboard
skills.
First, I would like to practice typing out your name.
Practice this a few times and challenge yourself by
typing your last name too. Secondly, Please type out your
rainbow words.
For a fun twist to this activity type your words again but with a different font style. Play around
with all the fonts and find one that you really like! This is a fun skill to learn! Ask your parent or
carer to help show you how to change the font style. Once you learn it is fairly easy to remember
how to do the next time. * If you need a list of your words, you can download them from the link
at the top of this learning grid in the Word Study section. Have fun with this activity and as
always I would love to see any pictures of your super clever work! Have fun.
ART:
Diving Ducks Hi Year 1 - I hope you have been enjoying the
Art activities the last few weeks. This week you
can click the link to find the activity ‘Diving
Ducks’.
Performing Arts: Mr Stephens’ Drama Challenge Grid
Your task is to choose a minimum of 2 ‘Drama Challenge’ tasks or complete them all to see how many total points you can score in Mr Stephens’ Drama Challenge! Like all tasks I would love to see them, so put them in a book, on a piece of paper, write a script, take photos, put it in a folder or on a USB stick so we can share them in class. Good Luck Drama Champions and most importantly HAVE FUN! (See Drama Grid Below)

move along the lines using different types of
locomotion and at different speeds.
Use some chalk, ribbons, skipping ropes or
pieces of paper to make your own paths to
follow. Make them go in different patterns
(eg: zig zags, swirls and loops, making letters
or numbers (or your name!)
Make a path and include some obstacles in it to move
over/under/through/around.
Questions:
Could you move like an animal on your pathways?
What pathways do you follow when you go outside/at school?
Can you draw or take a photo of your favourite pathway and share with
your teacher and/or classmates?
Why is this your favourite one?
