Double Sided Crepe Paper Anemones

Let your Paper Flower Adventure BeginIf you have been thinking about making paper flowers, this is the place to start –anemones are the perfect paper flowers for beginners! Because anemones only have six petals, this tutorial introduces how to work with crepe paper in a very simple way. Crepe is generally a forgiving material as far as cutting goes, so you are almost guaranteed to have a gorgeous flower at the end of your project!

Tools•Scissors•Pinking Shears (optional)•Low Temperature Hot Glue Gun•Wire Cutters•Needle Nose Pliers

Materials•Crepe Paper [Double Sided in all colors, Extra Fine: Black]•18 Gauge Floral Wire•3/4″ Foam Balls•Floral Tape

Steps1. Gather the tools and materials listed above.2. Print the PDF pattern below and cut your crepe according to the pattern.3. Using pliers, create a small loop at the ends of the floral wires. Create a hole in the foam ball and insert the wire into the ball, gluing to secure.4. Cover the foam ball with the circular black crepe piece and glue into place.5. Wrap fringed crepe piece under the ball and glue into place.6. Gently stretch the centres of the petals to make them more cuplike.7. Glue the first three petals under the centres, spacing them evenly.8. Glue the final three petals, staggering between the first three petals.9. Glue three leaves at the base of the flower.10. Wrap the wire with floral tape starting at the base of the bloom.

Tips

Anemones come in almost all colours (even blue!), so you have a lot of freedom to make these flowers to match your specific home decor. We specifically used double sided extra fine crepe (links in Shop this Project below) rather than regular extra fine crepe to give the petals a bit more body. As I mention in the video, the most important thing to remember is to cut the petals and leaves with the grain of the crepe. The grain lines are indicated in the printable template, so simply line those up against the paper and trim. You will learn all the paper flower basics as you craft these crepe anemones – how to stretch the petals, how to curl the leaves, how to use floral tape and more. These are all important little tricks for making the flowers look as realistic as possible!

Crepe Paper Rose Buds

For the Budding Crepe CraftersToday is Valentine’s Day so we naturally have roses on our mind. But rather than buying a bouquet of roses that will wilt and die in the coming weeks, we prefer crafting a gorgeous handmade bouquet that is as lasting as your love for that special someone! We have shared tutorials for metallic paper rose buds and felt rose buds, but this will be our first bud using our favourite specialty paper. Crepe paper rose buds are a great beginner’s flower, especially if you are looking for an easy homemade gift for a loved one.As our Valentine’s Day gift to you all, we are sharing this template for free. Feel free to pass it along to friends who may want to indulge in a little home crafting!

Tools & Materials•Scissors•Low Temperature Hot Glue Gun•Wire Cutters•Crepe Paper [Double Sided: Cherry & Raspberry, Flamingo & Peony Pink; White & Vanilla; Extra Fine: Cypress]•18 Gauge Floral Wire•Floral Tape

Steps1.Gather the tools and materials listed above.2.Print the PDF template below and use as a guide for cutting your crepe pieces. Make sure you are cutting with the grain of the crepe.3.With the edge of close scissors, curl both top corners of the petals, making sure you move in the direction of the grain. Gently stretch the centers of the petals to make them more cup-like.4.Cut wire to 10 inches and bend the tip downward, creating a small loop. Starting with the smallest petal, place glue at the bottom inside petal and wrap around the wire loop.5. Add glue to the bottom of the second small petal and attach to the base of the bloom.6.Continue with the next two petals to surround the center.7.Add the fourth and fifth petals.8.Finish the bloom by adding the three large petals.9.Put a bead of glue along the edge of the left leaf and lay your wire in the glue.10.Quickly cover glue and wire with second leaf piece.11.Glue the bottom edge of the sepal piece and wrap it around the base of the rose.12.Cut a thin strip of green crepe and glue over the top of the sepal and wire. This will give you a surface to secure the floral tape.13.Wrap the stem of the rose and leaves with floral tape.14.Attach stems of flower and leaf together with more floral tape.

TipsWe loved using these rose buds as an opportunity to explore more designs using the double sided papers from our selection of crepe. The double sided papers are simply two sheets of extra fine crepe fused together. There are plenty of colour combos to choose from, but we specifically used 3 of the double sided (listed in the Materials section) for a classic rose colour palette, including our newest combination of White and Vanilla. Crepe Paper Gardenia

A Stunning Paper Flower for Weddings and MoreI have been teaching the art of paper flower making for a long time now, and my crepe paper gardenia is perfect for those who have already had a little experience in making paper blooms.

Tools & Materials•Scissors•Low Temperature Hot Glue Gun•Crepe Paper [Double Sided: White & Vanilla, Ferns & Moss/Green Tea & Cypress]•3/4″ foam balls – 1 per flower/bud•20 Gauge Floral Wire•Floral Tape

Steps1. Gather the tools and materials listed above.2. Print the PDF template below and cut your crepe pieces according to the

template.3. Fold the tip of the floral wire over, pop some glue on the top and push it into

the center of a 3/4″ foam ball.4. Gently stretch the six smaller petals using your thumbs to create a cup shape

in each.5. Wrap one petal into a cone shape, glue and insert the foam ball into in.

Stretch the remainder of the petal around the foam ball and glue around the base of the ball to secure.

6. Overlap the remaining 5 petals at the edges to form a cup and glue to secure together. Each petal should tuck inside the next to create a spiral. Slide this cup of petals up from the bottom end of the floral wire so that it sits neatly with the foam ball center inside.

7. Take the visible edge of each petal and gently stretch it out with your fingers.8. Stretch the edges of the remaining 12 larger petals using the edge of your

scissors. Follow along the direction of the grain for best results!9. Glue 6 petals in a circle, overlapping as you go. Make sure you rotate in the

same direction the whole way around. Snip a line through the tip of the final petal and glue half on top and half on the bottom to continue the spiral evenly.

10. Slide this set of petals into the floral wire and glue the center down to secure. You can snip a little hole to start if it is too stiff to poke through.

11. Repeat steps 8-10 for the remaining 6 petals.12. Use your scissors to cut a deep zig-zag into the green sepal piece and wrap it

around the base of the gardenia.13. Wrap the base of the flower and floral wire with floral tape.14. Once you have completed your first crepe paper gardenia, you can continue

watching the video below to create buds and leaves to complement this pretty bloom.
