Ornamental Features

Double Flowered Japanese Kerria features showy yellowflowers along the branches from early to mid spring. Ithas light green foliage throughout the season. Thenarrow leaves turn lemon yellow in fall. The fruit is notornamentally significant. The smooth bark and lime greenbranches add an interesting dimension to the landscape.

Landscape Attributes

Double Flowered Japanese Kerria is a densemulti-stemmed deciduous shrub with an uprightspreading habit of growth. It lends an extremely fine anddelicate texture to the landscape composition which canmake it a great accent feature on this basis alone.

This is a high maintenance shrub that will require regularcare and upkeep, and should only be pruned afterflowering to avoid removing any of the current season'sflowers. Deer don't particularly care for this plant and willusually leave it alone in favor of tastier treats. Planting & Growing

Double Flowered Japanese Kerria will grow to be about 7feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 6 feet. It tends to bea little leggy, with a typical clearance of 1 foot from theground, and is suitable for planting under power lines. Itgrows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions canbe expected to live for 40 years or more.

This shrub performs well in both full sun and full shade. Itdoes best in average to evenly moist conditions, but willnot tolerate standing water. It is not particular as to soiltype or pH. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and willeven thrive in inner city environments. This is a selectedvariety of a species not originally from North America.
