With innovative products and an efficient sales structure, Julius and Michael von Resch see to the dynamic development of the Gretsch-Unitas Group of Companies. The prime example of this successful strategy is the tilt-turn fittings system UNI-JET. A product system, whose triumphal march around the world star-ted in the mid 1970s and has grown with increasing requirements.

... to the world of Gretsch-Unitas. For more than a

century, we have been involved with products and

technologies, which most people have contact with

quite naturally in everyday life, without being aware of

their complex importance. Our profession is the opening

and moving, closing and locking of windows and doors,

as well as functional and secure facility management.

The company started in 1907 in a small workshop in

Stuttgart-Feuerbach and is active today as an inter-

national concern. The family-controlled company, with

Gretsch-Unitas GmbH as the holding company, counts

amongst the most renowned suppliers of construction

fittings and security equipment worldwide.

In its growing history of success, the Gretsch-Unitas

group of companies has made a decisive contribution

in the comfortable and secure functioning of construc-

tion fittings and locking systems. Visionary innovative

spirit, research geared to targets and intensive deve-

lopment work, have always led to market-orientated

results. Properly thought-out and secure complete

solutions, as well as an extensive service for windows,

doors and automatic entrance systems, are available to

our customers all over the world.

People and ideas, products and systems are hidden

behind these services, and we would now like to

present these to you in this brochure.

Welcome …

The multi-functional property door fulfils several require-ments at the same time: Access control, escape door con-trol, escape door suitability, burglary protection and barrier free construction. With these services, the product fits perfectly into the range on offer, in the sense of the philoso-phy: an optimal overall solution, where innovation, quality, comfort, safety and customer service intermesh reliably.

Comfort and security are given the highest priority

when opening and closing doors and windows. With an

extensive range of modern construction fittings, safety

equipment and automatic entrance systems, we fulfil

these requirements with the best quality. In so doing,

we do not just concentrate on the individual product,

but create overall solutions according to current market

requirements.

Building security and barrier free construction, as

well as the combination of the latest technology with

user-friendly handling, are topics of the moment. The

Gretsch-Unitas group of companies has permanently

left its mark on the market with its future-orientated

innovations, and has set standards that point the way.

All over the world, our systems contribute to preventing

dangerous situations, reducing risks, limiting damage

and protecting both people and property.

Our overall range of services covers planning, imple-

mentation and service. Research and development

follows the central idea of creating the functional

properties of windows and doors in a technically ever

better, easier and more secure way. Mature mechanics

and intelligent electronics work together ideally. We

meet the growing requirements in modern architec-

ture, both in our development work, as well as in our

energy-conscious building methods.

The main focus of our thoughts and actions is always

the product, with its benefits for people. Our customers

primarily profit from this, as we are always conceiving

new and reliable systems for them, and offering them

in addition individual solutions, which are specific to

their property. For these reasons, we are valued world-

wide as a reliable partner. At the same time, we sup-

port and challenge our over 4,000 employees within

the group of companies around the globe with an open

company policy and an extensive eduction programme.

In so doing, we are conscious of our responsibility in

respecting national cultures and maintaining locations.

The synergistic interplay of all these factors is the basis

for the fulfilling of our principle “Securing technology

for you”.

For large area elements made from timber, PVC and aluminium, parallel slide and tilt fittings, lift-slide and lift-tilt-slide fittings, slide-fold elements, horizontal and vertical pivot fittings, provide safe and comfortable serv-ices for opening, closing and moving. These systems offer solutions for all materials, shapes and requirements in modern window technology.

Inventor’s spirit, innovative power and a will to expand,

mark more than a hundred years of eventful company

history. The imaginative engineer, Viktor Gretsch, star-

ted manufacturing pull cord fan-light openers, window

stays and small fittings in 1907, and three years later

he made the businessman, Johann Maus, his partner

and Managing Director. His descendants, Julius and

Michael von Resch are now the third generation to

manage the Gretsch-Unitas group of companies today.

With the continuous expansion of the product pro-

gramme, the first patents and a continually growing

international sales already followed in the 190s. After

the turmoil of the nd World War, the company dared

to start again in 1948, and the success of today’s

company is based on this. Since the mid 1970s, further

production companies have been integrated, and the

company has created its own service operations under

the umbrella of the group of companies. Today, a highly

productive network of competence offers high-quality

compatible products and services for everything to

do with windows, doors, entrance systems and in the

sector of facility management.

The large amount of branch experience and the syner-

gistic association additionally make it possible to react

to the requirements of the market in a manner relevant

to present times, and also to enable new trends to be

set at the same time, due to visionary developments.

The roles of the producing and service companies

supplement each other ideally and guarantee short

development cycles through to series maturity. The

reliable inter-company communication permanently

ensures the leading market position of the Gretsch-

Unitas group of companies.

1870 The creation of BKS locks goes back to 1870, when the company Damm & Ladwig was founded in Velbert, and to 190, when the companies Boge & Kasten, Rheinische Türschließer-Fabrik were founded in Solingen.

1907 Viktor Gretsch started manufacturing the first small fittings in Stuttgart-Feuerbach.

1912 The fan-light opener VENTUS F was developed.

1919 AERO ventilations supplemented the programme. They were forerunners to the UNITAS sound absorbing fans.

1920 Gretsch-Unitas received the patent rights for the IDEAL pivot bearing.

1924 Gretsch-Unitas patented its sliding door fittings.

1928 The further-developed DIXI window stay appears in the market.

1931 The KASTRUM horizontal and vertical pivot bearings expanded the production programme.

1932 Patent registration for Helios roller bearings, a forerunner to the fittings for slide-fold elements.

1932 The first smoke extraction systems with crank gear for staircases and public buildings appeared in the product range.

1934 FERCO International S.A.S. in Sarrebourg started producing construction fittings with 1 employees.

1938 The BKS round cylinder, which is still used today, was patented.

1939 – 1945 The nd World War brings a major setback, as Gretsch-Unitas is duty-bound to supply armaments.

1950 The first panic locks were introduced to the European market.

1954 Gretsch-Unitas developed horizontal pivot fittings for an opening of 160°, compared with just 90° previously. This development made it easier to clean the exterior panes of glass.

1956 The first burglary inhibiting locking cylinders appeared.

1973 The company moved from Stuttgart-Feuerbach to Ditzingen: Gretsch-Unitas had a new Head Office location.

1907

1977 ATS GmbH Automatik-Tür-Systeme is founded in Rheda-Wiedenbrück.

1979 The first G.U-SECURY multipoint door locks for doors are presented at the Deubau trade fair in Essen.

1980 Gretsch-Unitas brings parallel slide and tilt fittings to success through further development, and registers several related patents.

1983 The group of companies was integrated with BKS, the most traditional German manufacturer of locking cylinders, master keyed suits, locks, door closers and panic fittings.

1984 ATS GmbH Automatik-Tür-Systeme sold the first self-produced automatic sliding doors.

1989 BKS GmbH developed a lock with an automatic extending latch.

Escape and rescue routes should protect and save human life. The strictly defined requirements for func-tionality and security require an intelligent combination of mechanics and electronics. Our locks and fittings for emergency exits and panic doors reliably fulfil all the requirements for a safe operation in case of emergency.

Ground-breaking innovations are inseparably

connected with the history and present times of the

Gretsch-Unitas group of companies. After all, inten-

sive research and development work has always been

given a particularly high priority. A lively exchange of

experiences between the development departments of

the individual companies ensures the constant growth

in profitable know-how.

Even before the design of the product itself, the deve-

lopment process starts in the research of principles.

Our engineers test new kinds of materials and new

techniques with respect to further product optimisation.

In so doing, we cooperate closely with universities,

research institutes and branch experts.

The supreme maxim for every product development

is looking at the whole. We investigate the reciprocal

effects of every detail with functional, architectural,

ecological, production and processing specific require-

ments – our high quality products conform to these.

This approach applies both for innovative construction

fittings, as well as for control technical software

solutions. Architects, planners, building contractors,

window and door manufacturers, value our methods

of product development.

Highly qualified specialist personnel implement the

results of the research and market-specific knowledge

in products and services suited to practice. In so doing,

we always try to realise our ideas in a customer-orien-

tated way. A permanent quality control guarantees

our business partners maximum security – from the

individual parts produced with precision, through to the

optimal functioning of complex systems.

On large lift-slide elements with high sash weights, the HS-SPEED Limiter prevents an acceleration of the sash, and ensures in this way that personal injury and damage to the property itself is avoided. An innovative product, which completely fulfils our ambitious requirements with respect to security and operating comfort.

Over 00 patents speak for themselves. These include

major system solutions, such as the multipoint door

lock G.U-SECURY Automatic and the comfortable

parallel slide and tilt fitting.

Overall, the Gretsch-Unitas group of companies offers

a complete programme of more than 100,000 individ-

ual parts, together with numerous system solutions for

the equipping and control of window and door systems.

All the products conform to the highest requirements

with respect to quality, comfort and security, and are

available to the market at a fair price-performance

ratio. In addition to the standard programme, we

realise individual special solutions for our customers.

This applies both for construction fittings, as well as

for hardware and software solutions in facility manage-

ment and in the security sector.

One particular strength is production specific to a

property. This is where we consolidate the competence

held by our production and service companies for a

project, and provide the customer with a coordinated

package of services from a single source.

Facility management and barrier free construction

are topics with future, and we have already been

dealing with them from an early stage. We implement

tailor-made solutions from planning through to mecha-

nical and electronic components for business premises

and private houses, which imply simple operation and

flexible use.

This overall competence makes us different. It is the

consistent implementation of our claim to make the

opening and closing of windows and doors – incor-

porating materials and techniques of our time – ever

more comfortable, easy and secure.

Locking systems from the series are suitable for the planning and administration of master keyed suites for many different access hierarchies, as these permit a mechanical or an electronic operation. With a large number of different individual locking cylinders with individual keys assigned in each case, access authorisation can be controlled individually.

In over 40 countries, more than 400 people are

employed in the sales and marketing companies of

the Gretsch-Unitas group of companies. This decen-

tralised sales structure has many different advantages.

On the one hand, we can recognise the requirements

in the applicable region, and the desires of our local

customers, while on the other hand, our presence on

location gives us a high level of flexibility. Short dis-

tances and a fast, reliable service make technical and

cost-optimised solutions possible, perfectly in tune with

the needs of the people in their environment.

In addition to sales-promoting measures for the trade,

our customer service above all covers internet-based

solutions, which help make work easier to an enormous

extent in many respects. For example, orders can be

dealt with quickly and easily with the customer-orien-

tated ObS – Order by Scanning system, which at the

same time makes internal warehouse administration

considerably easier. The current order status can be

called up via the internet at any time.

The CIS – Customer Information System also offers the

same advantage, an information and ordering platform

for all sectors of the group of companies.

Here the customer will find, in addition to pure order

handling, useful information relating to the articles,

right through to an online availability check.

The web-based planning and ordering platform

MKS – MasterKeySystem was developed specifically

for master keyed suites. All these systems make order

handling simpler and ensure that delivery times are

reduced, combined with maximum services for our

customers. In addition, we make a web-based service

module available, with which detailed and complex

tenders are possible.

With the KeyManager, we offer a simple and time-

saving administration software for the creation and

control of master keyed suites. For window and door

manufacturers, our hardware managing programmes

and hardware data service offer optimal tools to

determine sets of fittings and to produce individual

fitting solutions.

This whole range of customer-orientated services,

in collaboration with our partners, ensures security,

transparency and confidence.

Barrier free construction affects anyone with restricted mobility and is therefore essential in shopping centres, public as well as private buildings, hospitals and nursing homes. With the barrier-free creation of threshold-less accesses and automated sliding door solutions, we open up the way to unrestricted freedom of movement.

The success of a group of companies, that is active

worldwide, is based last not least on reliable distri-

bution. Gretsch-Unitas Logistik GmbH looks after the

distribution sequences and tasks centrally for the

companies within the group.

In addition to making storage capacity available, all

the distribution-technical measures are controlled

from here, from customer-specific commissioning and

manufacturing, via packaging, to the dispatch on time.

The fact that the company has the latest technical

equipment ensures that orders are handled smoothly.

Software tailor-made for the high levels of require-

ments control the overall process sequences in detail,

from receipt of materials to delivery. This transparent

documentation makes it possible for the customer to

follow the current order status on the internet at any

time.

Close collaboration with the worldwide sales branches

of the Gretsch-Unitas group of companies guarantees

that an adapted range is in stock at the relevant

locations, and therefore goods are quickly available

to the customer.

An extensive seminar and training programme for various target groups ensures well-founded specialist knowledge and makes product selection easier. We regularly give training sessions, for example, with respect to handling the G.U-SECURY multipoint door lock in its many variants. With this offer, we create a good basis for joint success with our customers.

Economic success can only be achieved and main-

tained in the long term with well educated and

motivated employees. The Gretsch-Unitas group of

companies feels itself under an obligation to follow this

principle, and steers its company policy accordingly.

Our commitment starts with a varied range of training

places, in technical, commercial and IT professions,

together with courses of studies at vocational colleges.

By training young people, we create a healthy basis for

the future of the company.

The existing employees, which now amount to more

than 4,000 worldwide, are continuously further qua-

lified and trained. Many of today’s executives started

their career within the group of companies. Further-

more, we ensure that information is transparent all all

levels and we care for open communication within the

company. We also take on our social responsibility,

in that we give disadvantaged people the chance to

get a job.

This company structure, geared to the wellbeing of the

employees, also guarantees a good operating climate

and long-term loyalty to the company, even in days

of hard competition. As the Gretsch-Unitas group of

companies, we build on the fact that our success can

only ever be the joint success of all our employees.
