Over many years we have developed an enviablereputation in the trade skills marketplace for offeringhigh quality domestic gas training which includesqualifications that are recognised and respected by therelevant industry bodies.

Operating in partnership with other UK based trainingorganisations we offer courses which enable new andexisting trades people to gain the qualifications theyneed to begin new careers and continue their personaldevelopment. Our courses are intended to be flexibleenough to meet as far as possible, the needs of a rangeof students whose employment status may vary widely.

Many training facilities such as colleges only operatewithin restricted times throughout the year but werecognise that in the current environment studentsneed the flexibility to be able to balance their work andsocial lives with their studies.

The trade skills sector is subject to ongoing regulatorychange and it is vital that the qualifications offered ontraining courses properly reflect these changes toensure that they fit within the regulatory frameworkand meet the needs of industry.

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has made changesto the category of entrants that are acceptable for entryon to the approved persons Gas Register. This is nowknown as the Gas Safe Register, previously known asCORGI registration.

The changes meant that without previous auditableevidence of gas experience, a person would not be ableto undertake gas assessments within the UK. Thiscontinues to be the industry accepted method todemonstrate an individual’s competence.

Our courses are open to all – experienced tradespeople, career changers, or to those totally new to thisprofession. Neither gender, age, academic or ethnicbackground are barriers; anyone aged 18 or over will bewelcomed. You just need to speak and understandEnglish and have a good basic education.

This brochure is intended to show how you can becomea qualified Domestic Gas Engineer enabling you to worklegally in one of the most satisfying, rewarding andsecure professions now available.

We look forward to welcoming you as a student in thevery near future.

The gas accreditations will enable you to legally tacklethe vast majority of the gas installation and maintenance work you will encounter in adomestic environment.

What are the opportunities for Domestic Gas Engineers?

There are currently around 30 million households in the UK and this number grows daily. At some time, most of themwill need a Domestic Gas Engineer. Millions of existing homes have gas fired central heating systems and every singleone of them will need to have their boiler serviced, repaired or replaced at some time or another. Also there is a hugedemand from the UK energy companies for qualified gas engineers to fit the new smart meters and we have a specificcourse that can enable our students to apply for that role.

A government study predicts that organic UK population growth coupled with new entrants from the steadilyexpanding European Union could see our population grow to over 70 million within the next 18 years.

To accommodate the increased population it is quite obvious that millions of extra homes will need to be built. By ahuge margin, the preferred choice for home heating continues to be a gas fired central heating systems so it’s nothard to understand why for the foreseeable future there will be a lot of work opportunities in the vibrant DomesticGas market. Courses are available for LPG applications such as Domestic Heating, Boats, Caravans / Leisure Vehicles.

The bulk of your work will come from the repair and servicing of existing gas boilers and appliances. For you to installa complete new gas central heating system you will also need to have completed a plumbing course or have existingplumbing experience.

If you want to spread your wings into the Commercial Gas sector you can certainly do that. There is an upgrade pathfrom your CCN1 qualification that enables you to gain the Commercial Gas equivalent. You can then choose otheraccreditations depending on what commercial work you want to do.

The Commercial sector combined with the Commercial Catering sector is huge and it will provide you with a widerange of work and income opportunities; there must be hundreds of thousands of hotels, restaurants, cafes, andother establishments that require servicing and installation work.

As a combined overall opportunity, the Domestic and Commercial sectors together provide a lucrative sector whereyou can use your qualifications to gain employment or preferably where you can start your own business. Everyoneknows that usually you are much better off working for yourself.

It’s an exciting and challenging world out there. There is a great future in the gas industry so get qualified and getearning now!

What are your future work prospects

We are often asked if we can guarantee a job placement after passing our training courses. Whilst we do not provideany direct introductions to job vacancies, such is the demand for Gas Safe registered engineers that we believe it isunlikely that you will be short of job opportunities! The “Big 6” energy companies are always recruiting, especiallywith the roll-out of the Government’s Smart Meter scheme which is using up their existing engineers, so there is evenmore pressure to recruit new people.

10Train today for a better tomorrow

A recent Google query of “gas safe engineerjobs” gave a link to the www.indeed.co.ukjob site where it listed 1,628 vacancies(www.indeed.co.uk). Admittedly many ofthese ask for experience, but even so, thereare plenty of introductory openingsavailable. The Government predicts a skillsshortage of around 12,000 Gas SafeEngineers in the coming 12 months and thelonger term shortfall is even greater.

Earnings potentials range from around £22-24,000 per year for new starters, through to£35-40,000 for those with experience. Selfemployed engineers can easily make £60-70,000 and additional plumbing skills and/orcommercial qualifications can raise this evenfurther.

The growth of the buy-to-let housing markethas created a large demand for engineers toperform annual safety checks on all rentedproperties.
