Verse I:

So no one told you life was gonna be this wayYour job's a joke, you're broke, your love life's D.O.A.It's like you're always stuck in second gearWhen it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year

But I'll be there for youWhen the rain starts to pourI'll be there for youLike I've been there beforeI'll be there for you'Cause you're there for me too

Don’t Laugh at MeCharacters:

Becky (Marina)

Father (Maxim)Mother (Ann)

Miss Johnson (Nelly)Sister-Laura (Nastya)Erin (Anya)Class

Scene 1: At home, Becky is sleeping on stage. Her sister enters and writes “Loser” on her forehead as she sleeps and runs away, snickering. Mother is cooking in the kitchen nearby.

Laura: “Mom, Becky’s still sleeping…”

Mother is shocked, quickly turns to go to Becky’s door and yells. Laura follows her mother around looking proud. Father honks car horn- BEEP BEEP

Mom: “Hurry up Becky; you’re going to be late for school! Becky, get up! Get out of bed NOW! Your father is already waiting in the car! I wish you would be more like Laura, she’s always up early enough and ready to go!”

Becky quickly jumps out of bed, tidies her hair, and runs to the kitchen. Her sister points and laughs at her face. Becky’s mother gets angry and starts to scrub ‘Loser’ off of Becky’s forehead. Becky looks upset. Father enters with keys in his hands and looks angry.

Father: “C’mon! The car is already running. We are 15 minutes late already! Becky is it your fault again?” Father glares at Becky, who looks guilty. “Augh! How many times do we have to be late because of you?!”

The girls grab their bag lunches and backpacks, and exit the stage with their father. The SOUND OF CAR roars as they set off to school. Then the sound of the SCHOOL BELL.

Scene 2: At school, Becky is walking to her lesson. Someone walks by and throws Becky’s books on the ground. She bends down to gather them, no one helps her. She hurries and follows her classmates to the lesson. The bell rings again and Becky is sitting with her class.

Miss Johnson: “Good morning students.”

Students: “Good morning Miss Johnson.”

Miss Johnson: “Get ready for the lesson, who is absent today?”

Student: “Sam Olsen and Sarah Blume are ill today. They will not be at the lesson.”

Miss Johnson: “Thank you, now please take out your home tasks from the previous lesson.”

Becky frantically looks through her bag and raises her hand. “Miss Johnson, I’m sorry, but I forgot my home task at home. I was in such a rush this morning and….”

Miss Johnson cuts her off and says, “I don’t want to hear any excuses Becky! You are a lazy student! Why can’t you be more like your sister, Laura? She always studies hard and completes her work.”

Laura looks proud. The whole class erupts in laughter; they point at, whisper about, and make fun of Becky. Some audibly say that she is stupid, lazy, and a bad student. Becky is upset, everyone leaves and Becky is left in the middle of the stage.

Choir enters and sings, “Don’t Laugh at Me” begins. During the song, Becky turns a chair and faces the back of the stage, face in her hands.

Scene 3: After the song, the choir leaves. Becky turns around and starts to gather her belongings. Erin comes onto the stage and observes Becky.

Erin: “What’s wrong?”

Becky: “Nothing… who are you?”

Erin: “I’m Erin, the new girl. My family just moved to Kerch from Sholkino. What’s your name?

Becky: “I’m Becky.”

Erin: “It’s nice to meet you Becky. I don’t have any friends yet, so I’m really glad that someone is finally talking to me. Are you sure you’re alright, you look like you’ve been crying?”

Becky: “Well, I don’t know. I’m just tired of people being mean to me and saying rude things. People aren’t very nice around here.”

Erin: “Yeah, I’ve noticed. No one has really talked to me yet and I asked this one girl for directions to homeroom and she laughed at me and walked away.”

Becky: “Yeah, people here just don’t care. My mom and dad are always mad at me. My sister is always hurting my feelings and picking on me. People are always throwing my books on the floor. I always forget things and I just can’t do ANYTHING RIGHT! I’m really tired of it. I wish people could be nicer and learn to respect one another.”

Erin: “I agree. But we can be friends and help each other. People who are mean are just unhappy. I think we should hold our heads high and be the best that we can.”

Becky: “Do you think that will work?”

Erin: “Yes I think so.”

Becky and Erin hug. All come back on stage and sing ‘Lean on Me’ together.

ALIENS AND IMPORTANT HUMAN THINGSAliens:

The UFO approaches the Earth and crashes into it. (There is music and the sound of crashing.) Three aliens come out of the flying saucer. They look around and try to understand what is going on.

Captain What an unexpected accident! Our spaceship has crashed into unknown planet. How could we have been so mistaken? This planet is not marked on our maps.

Engineer According to the on-board scanning system the planet is called Earth.Doctor My tests show that its atmosphere is suitable for breathing.

Captain OK, guys. Let’s explore the planet first.

They start their trip and arrive in Brazil, at the house of Don Pedro and Dona Maria.

Don Pedro and Dona Maria are in their house. The housemaid is dusting the furniture.

Dona Maria Oh, don Pedro, where is our beloved daughter, that we have lost 15 years ago? I can’t stop thinking about her? Is she alive? Where is she? What is she doing? Is she missing us, her parents? Does she remember us?

Don Pedro is drowsing and doesn’t answer. There is a knock at the door. The housemaid opens the door and then returns and reports:

Housemaid There is a Gypsy family at the door. They are very exhausted. They ask for some bread for their children. Shall I let them in?

Dona Maria You can’t expect anything good from the Gypsies. Last time when they came to our village we missed a herd of the horses, and silver spoons from our house. And my daughter, Carmencita, she disappeared in the turmoil, while we were following the Gypsies.

Housemaid But their little kids look so tired and hungry. May I take them to the kitchen? I will watch them and won’t let them steal anything.

Dona Maria All right then. But if they take something away you’ll pay from your salary.

Housemaid opens the door and lets the Gypsy family in.

Young Gypsy mother Thank you, my dear lady, your eyes are like emeralds, your lips are pure rubies, your home is the kindest and the most prosperous. To thank you for your kindness I want to tell your fortune.

And she takes dona Maria’s hand and starts reading on her palm. And when she takes dona Maria by her hand, dona Maria can see a golden ring on her finger.

Dona Maria How long have you had this ring? (takes the young woman by her hand and looks at the ring as if trying to remember something).

Young Gypsy mother I’ve had the ring for a long time.

Dona Maria And where is your family?

Young Gypsy mother I don’t know. I was lost in the field when I was five. And the Gypsy tribe took me with them. Then I lived with the tribe, and I met my husband, he is the Capoeira prince. He had to escape from his palace because of the plot.

Dona Maria And this ring? Did the prince give it to you?

Young Gypsy mother No, I have owned the ring since I remember myself. It’s the only thing left from my family.

Dona Maria is trying to understand things, but faints. The housemaid starts to help her, she tries to wake don Pedro up, but fails. At that moment there is one more knock at the door. The housemaid opens the door and an elderly man and a woman, nicely dressed, enter the room.

The man We are travelling to far lands. Our friend, Don Juan, told that Don Pedro, his friend, will give us shelter and some food. We are going to our relatives in Spain. After we have lost our son, Amadore, we don’t have anything to live for. We’ll go to my cousin and live there till there is time to pass away.

The young Gypsy man looks at the old man. He looks at the old man very attentively, then rushes to him and shouts : FATHER! They embrace each other, the old woman recognizes her son, they kiss, and hug, and embrace each other. Amadore (and it’s really him) introduces his wife:

Amadore Mother, father. I want you to meet my wife. She is a very brave young lady and if it hadn’t been her, I would have been dead hundreds of times. And as you see, she is a perfect beauty. She is not a princess, but for me, she is more than any queen in the world.

Dona Maria comes to her mind. And she speaks.

Dona Maria Now I want to introduce your wife, prince Amadoro. Meet the real grand senora dona Carmencita de Prado, my beloved daughter. Carmencita screams, throws herself to dona Maria, embraces and kisses her. Two families are happy.

Don Pedro wakes up, looks at the new faces and says:

Don Pedro Brazilian family is really the most valuable treasure in theworld. When all your family members alive, healthy and at home, that is where happiness lies! We are going to have a party!

Ksenia dances Latin-American dance.

The aliens watch the scene from some distance and after the curtains close, they exchange their opinions:

Doctor “Family! What a wonderful idea! We should learn from the people to make families!

Engineer Yes, looks like the thing that really helps and is important.

Captain Maybe, the humans have more secrets. So, let’s explore further!

The aliens continue their trip. This time they find themselves in Japan, in a karate school. There is a lesson of being a samurai there.

Engineer They look like serious guys.Captain We should learn from them to cooperate and to be a team!Doctor Yes, that may work. I think this civilization keeps a lot of

secrets. Let’s wonder further!

This time the aliens are in North America.

DREAMCATCHERNative American Tale

Characters:ChildrenChief (Artur)Parents (Ilona and Masha) Shaman (Yan)Air (Ann)Earth (Anton) Fire (Kristine)Water (Dima)Grandmother Spider (Julia)

The tribe is chanting and dancing around the totem pole. The aliens enter; the tribe stops dancing and looks at them strangely. The chief walks to the front of the people and talks to the aliens.

Chief: “Who are you and where do you come from?”

Aliens: “We are from outer space, we come in peace…”

Chief: “We know nothing about space and creatures from the outer worlds, but every living and peaceful being has a place amongst our tribe. Come, join our evening. It is time to tell a great story.”

Everyone gathers around (grabs props), the chief is in the middle. The children are on the right, laying down, sleeping. The adults are gathered on the left. (Everyone has props behind back.)The Aliens and extra tribes people sit on the stairs of the stage, watching. The chief is the greatest orator of his people.

Chief: “Long, long ago, in the days of the ancestors, some of the children of our people were having strange and terrible dreams. One morning, a child awoke after having a terrible dream, the next morning two, and the next three. The children would wake up every morning, frightened and scared, some of them crying. As the children talked to other children the troubling dreams spread among them like a plague. Soon all of the children of the tribe were haunted by their terrible dreams.”

The Chief goes to the edge of the stage. Two parents come together, holding hands.

Parent 1: “What can we do? Our children are so scared and have restless nights. They are consumed by their nightmares. They will never be happy again!”

Parent 2: “This awfulness is beyond us! Let’s speak with the shaman; he’ll know what to do!

Chief: “So, the parents went to the shaman and told him of their children’s terrible dreams. The shaman listened patiently.”

Shaman: “Yes, this is a very serious problem. It might be difficult, but I must try. The future of our tribe depends upon our children. We must rid them of these horrible dreams. I will go into the dream world to find the answer.”

The shaman sits cross legged, closes his eyes and sways. WIND NOISE. After noise, he stands again.

Chief: “Upon entering the dream world, the shaman was approached by the four elements: Air, Earth, Water and Fire.”

Air: “I’ve heard of your tribe’s problem with the children having horrible dreams. I’ve also carried the message on the wind to Earth, Water and Fire.”

Fire: “We have been trying to solve the problem because we love your tribe’s children and want to help.”

Water: “Thank you for coming to us shaman, together we can find the solution.”

The shaman and elements link arms, close eyes and sway together. WIND NOISE.

Chief: “And so the shaman and elements dreamed together for a long time to find a solution, when finally they came to understand…”

Air: “I can carry the children’s dreams.”

Earth (hoop): “I can hold the dreams within a hoop.”

Water: “I can wash the dreams and separate the good from the bad.”

Fire (sun): “I will use the morning sun to burn up the unwanted dreams. But, how will we catch them?”

Chief: “The elements were clever, but they still needed something to capture the dreams as they were carried by the air. Try as they might, the shaman and the elements could not think of a way to catch the dreams. Fortunately, Grandmother Spider was listening!”

GS (Dream Catcher): “Beautiful, loving elements, I can help you as you help me every day. I have found a solution. I have woven a special web that only wanted dreams can escape down to the dreamer.”

Shaman: “You did!? That is the solution. Bless you Grandmother Spider, I will return from the dream world and share this wonderful news of the dream catcher with my tribe. It will rid our children of these frightening dreams. Good bye.”

Chief: “And so the shaman returned to the tribe and gave dream catchers to each child. The families hung them above where the children slept, in a place that was seen by the sun. No longer were the children troubled by unwanted dreams. Instead they had happy dreams and peaceful sleep. Our Great Spirit looked down upon us and smiled.”
