    I. NATURE

    The Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge is a Mathematics competition for elementary andsecondary students in both public and private schools nationwide !t is implemented by theMetrobank "oundation# !nc $M%"! the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines$MTAP& and the Department of Education $DepEd&

    II. OBJECTIVES

    The overall ob'ective of the Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge is to contribute inimproving the (uality of mathematics education in the Philippines )pecifically# it aims to*

    A Awaken greater interest in Mathematics among elementary and secondary students

    in both public and private schools all over the country+% Encourage students to strive for e,cellence in Mathematics+C Encourage mastery of basic mathematical skills+D Discover mathematical talents among the students+E Develop the values of hard work# perseverance# honesty# teamwork and

    sportsmanship+ and" Provide students with opportunities in leadership and cooperative undertaking

    III. COVERAGE

    The coverage of the competition shall be the current DepEd Education Curriculum forElementary and )econdary# per gradeyear level

    A. Eliminations:All bonafide students enrolled in Grades I to VI and Grade 7 to 4th Yearin any public and private school in 17 regions including those from SUs! as certifiedby the principal or registrar of the school

    Note: Contestants must be actually enrolled in the gradeyear level they are competing !nNOinstance shall mi,ed gradeyear level participation in team competition be allowed .nlythree (3)students per gradeyear level shall represent each school# for both public andprivate

    B. i!ision "inals: "he top si# $min%& to '( $ma#%& highest scoring schools in theelimination round per grade)year level! Grades I to VI and Grade VII to 4 thYear may

    participate%

    II. "OR COACES

    Coaches in the 1egional and 0ational "inals will receive cash allowance 7owever# if the coachhandles both individual and team contestants from the same school# heshe will receive cashallowance only once

    A National Steerin# Committeecomposed of officers representatives from M%"!# MTAP andDepEd# shall oversee the implementation and formulate the guidelines# policies and mechanicsof the competition

    The %B"Ishall serve as ma'or sponsor and thus# be involved in all aspects and phases of thecompetition including supervision of the National "inals an- Aar-in# Ceremonies.

    The %TA$shall oversee the conduct of the 1egional "inals in coordination with DepEd and the

    0ational "inals in coordination with M%"! MTAP will also be responsible for settling all(uestions# including protests# which may arise in the course of the competition at the Re#ional,e!el.

    The eE-shall supervise the competition from the Elimination 1ounds to the 1egional "inalsand shoulder e,penses incidental thereto from sources to be determined by participatingparties DepEd will also be responsible for settling all (uestions# including protests# which mayarise in the course of the competition from theElimination to the i!ision ,e!el.
