• Discuss the article. Make sure everyone in the group understands what it is saying. Ask each other or myself any questions you may have.• Discuss the question at the end. Pool all of your

ideas to get different points of view.• Be prepared to “present” your article to the

other half of the class. (If you have to write anything down/take any notes, do so before you present).

Class Responsibilities

• If you are absent from class (excused), you have two full days to make up the work for each day you miss.• If you are going to miss class for any other

Characterization

• Direct: author lists character traits• EX: “I may be mean and I may be a bully, but…”

• Indirect: author shows the character behaving/speaking in a certain way and we must infer traits from this behavior• EX: Angelica takes Susie’s tricycle without

asking, pedals quickly, and winds up crashing the tricycle and breaking the reflector. What does this reveal about Angelica’s personality?

Point of View

Assignment• Rewrite “The Lady, or the Tiger?” in first-person point

of view from a new perspective• The lady, the king, the accused man, an audience

member• Write the ending as well: did the lady come out of the

door, or the tiger?• Make sure you include the feelings/thoughts that your

new narrator is having before, during, and after the trial

• This should be at least one page written, no skipping lines (standard piece of paper, not composition paper. If you write large, then yours should be a bit longer).
