DNA Basics

• DNA is the most basic building block of life

• DNA makes proteins for the body

• DNA passes genes from one generation to the next

• Almost all cells have DNA

DNA to RNA

•DNA cannot leave the nuclease

•DNA splits itself and makes a copy called RNA

•The RNA is then responsible for getting the code to aRibosome which makes the needed protein

•This process is called translation and transcription

DNA in genetics

• DNA passes from one generation to the next in chromosomes

• Natural selection insures that only the most benifitial traits get passed on

• Natural selection is the reason for evolution

Natural Selection

• Natural selection starts with a random mutation which can be good or bad

• If the mutation makes it easier for the organism to survive then the trait is most likely to be passed on

• This is because the organism with the trait will be able to provide better and therefore able to mate more
