Guests: Cher Peterman (guest of Mary Ellen Dotson), Lynne Kincaid

Program:

Essential Oils: Sherry Alimi-Kent introduced our guest speaker, Lynne Kincaid, who presented a program on essential oils. Sherry met Lynne through PEO and Women of Wisdom at American Lutheran Church. Lynne got into essential oils through a friend who set up a table with essential oils at an art show at Lynne’s home.

Lynne stated that wellness is not merely the absence of disease, but how you feel and discussed the ways in which essential oils can be used to help achieve wellness by helping the body to heal naturally, backing up what the doctor tells you. Wellness includes self-awareness, prevention, and education

The four ways in which essential oils can be used are through aromatics, diffusers, topical application, and internally (with water or gel caps). Lynne stressed the importance of using therapeutic grade oils. Lemon and peppermint are two of the most prominent oils. Frankincense helps as a lead oil, pulling oils deep into tissues. Carrier oils include fractionated coconut oil and almond oil. Oils are also used in vitamins and skin care.

Following her presentation, Lynne invited members to select an oil as a gift. Though she doesn’t sell oils, Lynne is willing to answer any questions from members and obtain oils for them.

World Fellowship: Sherry Baca led members in playing a World Fellowship Bingo Game. Members answered questions about World Fellowship to fill in their bingo cards.

Business Meeting: The business portion of the meeting was called to order by Joyce Moore at 10:55 a.m.

Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the January Executive Board meeting and February meeting were approved as corrected.

Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer’s report was approved. Raffle proceeds are now reported with scholarship funds. Total proceeds from the raffle were $1,047.

Old Business:

April Meeting: Plans for the April 6th Honors Brunch were discussed. The meeting will be hosted by the Educational Excellence committee, Georgia Davidson, chair. The brunch will be a potluck. Dr. Penny Hargrove will be our guest speaker. We are expecting about 40 attendees for the meeting, including 4-5 honorees. Georgia has gone to schools, leaving cards requesting nominations. Honorees will be presented with roses (Sherry Alimi to order, Georgia to pick up) and certificates (Sherry Alimi to make). Sherry Alimi, Sherry Baca, and Georgi will be compiling bios. Honorees will be introduced by DKG members. Honorees can later be voted on for membership in DKG.

Update on our “adoptees”: Joyce contacted Karla Cruz at Skyview School regarding the amount of her award to purchase supplies. Joyce stated that Karla was very appreciative. She will collect the receipts and give them to Joyce.

New Business:

Forms for the State Convention: The state convention will be held June 7-9 in Tucson. We have received a display form for Women in the Arts and encourage people to participate. We have also received a registration form for the Rose Boutique.

May meeting: The luncheon following the May meeting will now be held at Los Pinos (formerly the Pine Cone Inn) at 11:00. The program will be at Watter’s Garden Center. If you would like to participate in building a container garden, there is a cost of $25.

ETA CHAPTER SUMMARIES by Sherry Baca

GEORGIA DAVIDSON: Please keep Georgia in you prayers. Her husband had a stroke and while he is back home, he is not doing well. They are still traveling to Phoenix for his treatments.

PAM DICKERSON: It is official - she will be retiring at the end of this school year from her job as principal at Sacred Heart School after working there for 9 years. She plans to spend more time with hubby Danny and enjoy this next chapter of her life.

DONNA STOWELL: She reports she is doing pretty well after her heart attack. She saw her cardiologist in mid March and he said all looked good so she didn’t have to come back for 6 months. Her niece who is married and lives in Humboldt comes by each day to check on her and pick up her mail. However, Donna relates that if her niece doesn’t get there early, Donna shuffles out to get the mail herself. She also has a good friend who drives her to her appointments in Prescott. But Donna thinks she is ready to start driving short distances near her home. If possible she will try to come to the April meeting. We send continuous well wishes her way.

DOROTHY EICHBAUM: She will be traveling to Phoenix on March 23 for her grandson’s wedding. This grandson belongs to her daughter, Carolyn, and is the last of her grandsons to get married.

SHERRY BACA: She and her husband recently spent a week in the RV in Tucson where they toured the old mission in Tumacacori and the presidio in Tubac, lunched at Mount Lemmon watching the skiers, explored Mission San Xavier, and visited friends. Sherry’s college roommate lives down there along with two other retired teacher friends.

SHERRY ALIMI-KENT: She is currently in California. Unfortunately, she and Steve had to cancel their trip to Spain because his passport had expired. Her advice to everyone is to check your passport.

MAURILEE WALKER: She spent time in Tennessee this past all at her dad’s farm She has also being doing collage quilting. She sent a photo of her Aussie Gracie at the farm. See the photo at the right.

MARY SHENEFIELD: She is doing as well as can be expected. Some days she is pretty weak but so far has no serious pain. She had first spent 2-3 weeks in the hospital after her pancreatic cancer diagnosis; then she stayed about 10 days in the Life Care Center at the Beatitudes. But she is now at home and her son Eric is with her. She has an assisted home health care nurse coming and doing vitals. She also has a physical therapist coming and someone who comes to help her bathe. The month of March has been very busy getting all of the home services set up and paper work completed. They have contracted with Medicaring - a program that has access to visits from hospice without actually being in hospice. Beginning in April she has a lady coming to clean the house every Monday - this is the same lady who helped her pack and move back into her home so the lady already knows where everything is and what to do. One of her nieces came to visit for a week - they had just moved somewhere near the ocean but came back to Phoenix and spent a lot of time with Mary organizing her files and helping her get ready to do her taxes. Another niece lives in Ahwatukee and visits her every Monday bringing her cartons of home cooked food. Last week she took Mary to the library to check out several books. Mary’s granddaughter from Georgia who has three sons is coming next weekend for a visit but will stay with Mary’s other granddaughter while down there. Mary works hard to stay active by walking and doing the stationery bicycle because she wants to prevent getting blood clots. She is really hoping that she can get up to Prescott one last time around March 24. Ever since her husband died 15 years ago, she has been taking a cake to the VA hospice floor in Prescott on March 24 to thank them for all of their care of her husband before he passed away. We hope that it works out for her and that one of her family members will be able to drive her up here to do that this year.

Mary is in good spirits and says she is at peace with the situation and in God’s hands as she has been all of her life. She would love hearing from any of you : 928-710-1900.

Maurilee Walker shared a photo of her dad’s farm in Tennessee with her Aussie Gracie enjoying clear skies

and a walk in the pond.
