THREADS OF HOPE
The July meeting of Threads of HOPE was a successful day. The project was Fidget mats for Veterans.
Project kits were made and included everything required to make a Fidget mat. Volunteers were able to
make 18 fidget mats. Some of the dedicated volunteers took kits home to make additional quilts. Fidget
mats have been requested for veterans in memory-care facilities or wherever there is a need. It is a small
way for us to honor our veterans.
Jimmy Hicks, Becky Harvey, Jean Tabor, Judy Klein,
JoEllen Escher, Carol Spars, and Sandra Terry with the
Fidget Mats they made.
We were reminded, once again, that God’s timing is perfect.
A few days after the Fidget mats were made, Threads of HOPE
received a phone call from the Volunteer Coordinator at
Arkansas Hospice in Hot Springs, who had heard about our
Fidget Mats for Veterans. As a result of that conversation, we
will be providing a Fidget Mat and patriotic-themed pillowcase
for veterans who are in Hospice care. In addition, Threads of
HOPE will be assembling care baskets for families whose loved ones are in Hospice in-patient facilities in Hot
Springs and Hot Springs Village.
In September Threads of HOPE will continue working on quilts for homeless shelters. A simple “jelly roll”
pattern will be used as well as traditional block patterns. The quilts are easy to sew, and we need lots of
help sewing and assembling the quilts. Threads of HOPE always needs fabric and will arrange for pick up if
you would like to donate. Please remember that we want to Help Other People Everywhere, and we
continue to need support from BBC members who sew and those who can help assemble projects in order
to reach out to our community. Threads of HOPE gives you a perfect opportunity to participate in BBC’s
outreach efforts!
The first day for the crocheting and knitting group was very successful. Even the beginners completed caps
for preemies! Thank you to April Catlett, our instructor!! In September they will continue making caps for
preemies and, using the same pattern in larger sizes, will be making caps for homeless shelters. If you often
think that you have nothing to do, this is an opportunity for you to join us and let April teach you how to
crochet or knit! The caps are easy to make, and April is a very talented instructor. Last month, with one
BBC member and five villagers, 16 caps were made! Several attending had never crocheted! You will learn
something new, make new friendships with ladies who are not members of BBC, and get a delicious FREE
lunch!! The new Crocheting and Knitting Group meet on the same day and same place as the Sewing Group,
but at a different time, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Jane Duehr, Marie Theriot, and Darlene Phillips who prepared our delicious lunch.
Sue Duvall, Ginny Barnes, April Catlett, Dorothy Bodine, Janie Smith, Kitty Braswell, and Linda Esola. 16 preemie caps were made!
Please join Threads of HOPE on Thursday, September 26, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, in Room 115, Fellow-ship Hall, and find out how easy it is to be a blessing to someone and receive a blessing yourself! If you sew, please bring your sewing machine, notions for sewing cotton, and neutral-colored thread. All fabric will be cut, pinned and ready for sewing. If you do not sew or don’t want to sew, your help is needed with pinning, pressing fabric, and signing notes of encouragement to be included with the finished quilt. If you have crochet hooks or circular knitting needles you would like to use, please bring them. If not, yarn and needles will be provided. Warm coffee cake and hot coffee will be waiting for you on Thursday morning, and a delicious lunch will be prepared by Balboa Women’s Ministry. In order to have an accurate count for lunch for both groups, call/text Sue Griggs, 501-984-1401 for
reservations. Please visit the Threads of HOPE Facebook Page for more photos and updates.

Fall Bible Studies
Beginning 10:00 am September 9
“The Tabernacle” by Shawn Barnard
In this 6-week study of The Tabernacle, learn how God dwelled among the
Israelites in the wilderness and designed a pattern of worship to bring imperfect
people into a relationship with Himself. Discover Christ in the Tabernacle
through the beautiful symbolism in each element of the tabernacle and be drawn
closer to our Lord. Facilitated by Sue Loeffler.
“Messy People” by Jennifer Cowart
Every life gets messy at times. In this 6-week study, you will dig into the lives of
biblical heroes who were messy people just like us but who were used by God in
powerful ways. Together we will examine the stories of five wonderful but
messy people and one messy parable character. In the hands of God, our messes
can become His masterpieces! Facilitated by Barbara Miller.
“Psalm 23, The Shepherd with Me” by Jennifer Rothschild
This beloved psalm can breathe new life into women who are weary and unsure
of their next steps. It’s more than a psalm that comforts in death; it gives
confidence in life. This 7-week study will help provide a fresh insight while
encouraging you to explore the depths of God’s compassionate care while
debunking the self-reliance myth. Facilitated by Vanessa Downing.
“Discerning the Voice of God-Revised” by Priscilla Shirer
During this 7-week study you will discover the root to clear and daily
communication with God—humble obedience. Learn how surrendering unlocks
His many blessings intended for us, centers us in His will, and helps us discern
His voice in everyday life. Facilitated by Billie Sue Wright.

Welcome, Carolyn Linam, as our new librarian! Please be sure to come by the library and
visit with her and welcome her to this new position. I have enjoyed serving in this ministry as
librarian for the past 13 years and I want to thank each of you who gave me encouragement
during those years. Also, thanks to each of you who came by and made use of this wonderful
treasure—our library. I hope you will continue to come by and check out the new media it
has to offer as well as the window decorations that several ladies work hard to keep fresh and
appealing. A special thanks to Diane Morgan and Gail Robinson who have assisted me in this
during the past year. Many others have helped over the past years and I hope they know
how much I appreciate them all. Now for the media we will soon have ready for you:
Your Son Is Alive by James Scott Bell tells the story of Dylan and Erin Reeve and how they
have lived with a gaping emotional wound ever since their five-year-old son, Kyle, was
kidnapped in broad daylight. Though the shadow of their loss hangs heavy, Dylan and Erin
have managed to get on with their lives, even finding bits of happiness along the way, until
one night when a crayon-scrawled note is slipped under Dylan Reeve’s door. All it says is,
“Your son is alive”. Could it be true or is it a sick game played by somebody out for money?
And what now?
Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate brings us a story based on one of America’s most
notorious real-life scandals—in which Georgia Tann, director of a Memphis-based adoption
organization, kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families all over the country—Lisa
Wingate’s riveting, wrenching, and ultimately uplifting tale reminds us how, even though the
paths we take can lead to many places, the heart never forgets where we belong. Memphis,
1939. Twelve-year-old Rill Foss and her four younger siblings live a magical life aboard their
family’s Mississippi River shanty-boat. But when their father must rush their mother to the
hospital one stormy night, Rill is left in charge—until strangers arrive in force. Wrenched
from all that is familiar and thrown into a Tennessee Children’s Home Society orphanage, the
Foss children are assured that they will soon be returned to their parents—but they quickly
realize the dark truth. At the mercy of the facility’s cruel director, Rill fights to keep her
sisters and brother together in a world of danger and uncertainty.

For those who like historical fiction, you will not want to miss reading Legacy of Mercy by
Lynn Austin. A young socialite, Anna Nicholson, can’t seem to focus on her upcoming
marriage. The new information she has learned about her birth mother continues to pull at
her, and she hires Pinkerton detectives to help her find the truth. But as she meets people
who once knew her mother and hears stories about the past, Anna soon discovers that some
secrets are better left hidden.
Charles Martin is back with a new story, Send Down the Rain, which has received reviews
that tell us to read it all the way through even though you may be ready to give up on it. One
person said, “My first few chapters I thought ‘I’m not sure I can read this’, but I pushed on
and often felt I needed to turn back and look to see if I missed something. However, I just
kept reading. This book isn’t one to read and put aside and go to another book, it is one to
ponder, pray about and let it touch your heart and really sllow yourself to get in touch with
people who have fought and laid down their lives so we can have a Nation like ours.”
Evidently, this one is different from Martin’s normal novels because every review I read reads
the same—at the end of the book they thought the author had a wonderful book.
Two Steps Forward Study Guide by Sharon Garlough Brown. The Two Steps Forward Study
Guide is a companion to Two Steps Forward book (Sensible Shoes series). It is set up as an 8-
week study guide that follows the character’s journey that challenges us to go deeper in our
walk with Christ.
We invite you to Come By and Check Us Out!

ROBERT & MARGARET BISE
Margaret was born and raised in Arkansas in Sheridan
and North Little Rock. Robert was born in North Little
Rock, but graduated from high school in Arkadelphia.
They grew their families in North Little Rock with Robert
having 2 children (David and Amy) and 3 grandchildren
who live in this area. Margaret had a son (Jeff) who now
lives in Dallas with 2 grandchildren. Robert and Margaret
were very active in Park Hill Baptist Church. They each lost their spouses due to illness and they
married in 2010.
Robert got an early start in the computer business as a programmer with several companies and
ended up providing technical support to many Verizon stores throughout southern Arkansas. For fun,
Robert was a tournament fisherman and year-round hunter. Now he focuses on remodeling their new
home, woodworking, and deer hunting. Margaret went to college at Central Arkansas in Conway and
became a dietitian working at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. She then started a catering business
that grew to feed 5,000 people at some events. Since she was working out of her kitchen, this became
too much and she went to work for Beauty Control headquartered in Dallas, where she worked her
way up to managing a sales team of over 9,000 women.
After successful careers, they decided to retire and started looking for the right location. They said
moving here was a God thing. They found a house they wanted here, but were told it was already
sold. They then started looking north of Little Rock, but the Lord seemed to close the door on every
house in which they were interested. Margaret then called the HSV realtor back and discovered that
the house they originally wanted was suddenly now available. The previous buyer backed out at the
closing. Their house in North Little Rock sold quickly and the buyer paid cash. They moved to Hot
Springs Village in March 2019 and we are happy to have them.

MIKE & MARY SANDERS
(Picture not available)
Mike and Mary are originally from western New York and both attended Alderson Broaddus
College in West Virginia. They were married after Mike graduated with a degree in Chemistry.
After receiving his Doctorate in Organic Chemistry from Miami University of Ohio, Mike went into
new product development. He holds numerous patents on items from hot melt adhesive backing for
carpeting, to recreational and industrial water treatment among others. He worked in research and
new business development, while Mary had the important job of managing the household, raising 3
daughters, and moving over 20 times.
They became Christians in 1996 after they attended a Walk to Emmaus retreat. In 2001, they
joined Campus Crusade for Christ, raised their own support, and started their ministry in Baton
Rouge, then moving to Little Rock to serve with Family Life. Mary led the prayer ministry and Mike
helped arrange Family Life Weekend to Remember seminars. They have both taught Sunday School
previously and both are active in precept Bible studies. Mike is interested in Bible study and hopes to
teach Sunday School again.
In 2008, they went back to the business world, with Mike working on water treatment solutions for
the oil and gas industry. They retired in 2016 in Center Ridge, Arkansas on a 60-acre ranch raising
cattle. Mary’s sister was living in Hot Springs Village and Mike and Mary decided to move here in
January 2019. They have joined the RV Club here and love to travel. In May, they took a 9-day trip
through the bottom of the Grand Canon for 180 miles. They slept on cots under the stars and took
baths in the 48-degree Colorado River. This is an interesting couple.
