    ATTENTION ALL EXHIBITORS 2020 Updates for the Ractopamine Free Ohio State Fair.

    We will be a ractopamine free fair.

    Exhibitor Affidavit for the Market Barrow Show will be required

    Market Barrows will be required to have an 840 Tag. We prefer that they be the EID (Electronic Identification) 840 Tags but will accept non EID this year. These should be placed in the pig from the breeder they originate from, if possible please have them placed in the RIGHT EAR. If you do not have one, you will want to work with your local vet.

    All Market Exhibitors will be required to enter parent/guardian PQA Certification ID# at the time of entry.

    SESSION 1 and 2 INFORMATION BREEDING SWINE ENTERING PROCEDURE Ownership deadline: June 1. All entries must be in the name of the actual owner or partnership. All animals

    must be owned by June 1. Animals must have been transferred to or be registered in the name of the exhibitor at time of check-in.

    Entries close on June 20. Open Class entries MUST be done online. All Junior entries are done online only. Online entries through www.ohiostatefair.com.

    o Exhibitors should retain a record of their exact login information (username and password).o If entering under farm name, please utilize team/ company information line to list your farm name.o Exhibitors name, complete address, and entry fees.

    Breeding gilt entries must include Breed and number of animals (entries) exhibitor intends to show. Registration papers for all purebred gilts and boars are required. (See Ownership Guidelines for more details).

    Registration information is required prior to July 20th. It includes Registration number, breed, gender, sire, sire of dam, birthdate and ear notch, It may be entered in the following ways: Completed at the time of on-line entries through the on-line entry system or Completed through the Google DOCS form available at the www.ohiostatefair.com website under Swine Department

    o A fine of $10 per head will be charged at time of check-in for failure to provide ahead of time. Registration papers must be presented at the time of check-in. Originals required. No copies accepted. All breeding swine must be ear notched. Registration papers will be checked with ear notches of animals before animals

    can be shown. Exhibitor’s name on entry must be exactly the same as owner’s name listed on registration papers Variations of

    ownership would require separate entries. Partnership and family owned pedigrees will be accepted. Substitutions may be made within BREED at the time of check in ONLY.

    If entering both Junior and Open, you MUST complete entry forms for BOTH JR (online only) and OPEN paper online systems.

    There is no limit to entries made, number of animals shown, or the number of premiums won by an exhibitor in any Open Breeding Swine Classes. Only exception- Youth Jackpot Gilts, which are limited to 6 head.

    Purebred breeding swine (gilts and boars), crossbred boars and youth jackpot gilts that are in the sale must provide a health certificate.

    Late Entries OPEN CLASS only after June 20 - you will need to print off the entry form and mail to the Ohio State Fair, Entry Department, 717 East 17th Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43211, and must include the late entry fees.

    o OPEN BREEDING SWINE LATE ENTRY ONLY (June 21-July 13) requires a $50.00 late fee per exhibitor, per species, plus the usual per animal charge. If wanting to enter Open, then it would be $50.00 for each area, plus the animal entry fee. Any entry made July 14 and after will be charged $75.00 per exhibitor, per species and per animal charge.

    $30.00 - 6 day punch ticket (multi person use- example: 3 people, 2 admissions)$ 6.00 - one day ticket (one individual use)

    Session 1 & 2 BREEDING SWINE OWNERSHIP AND AGE GUIDELINES All animals must be owned by June 1. Animals must have been transferred to or registered in the name of the exhibitor

    at time of check-in.

    All Breeding Gilts must have been farrowed on or after December 1, 2019. Breeding gilt classes will be shown by age; youngest to oldest.

    EXHIBITION Pen assignment request will be taken starting Monday, July 27th. Tickets for your spot in line can be picked up

    beginning at 8 am on Monday, July 27 at the Ohio State Fair Swine Barn Office. NO BARN LINES. See schedule for detailed times on penning requests. Online requests will be taken after 3 pm by using our on-line google form on Monday, July 27th only. We will work to accommodate you as best as possible.

    All pens are assigned by the Swine Department personnel. Exhibitors must check for correct pen assignments before bedding down. Exhibits incorrectly located will need to move to assigned area. If exhibitor fails to follow pen assignments, they will be asked to leave.

    Pen space limited to pigs only. NO TACK or FEED in pens. Boards may be put across the top of pens for tack and feed storage. Pens are approximately 5' x 7'.

    Each exhibitor must furnish his own feed troughs, buckets, etc. Feed and first bedding will not be furnished, but will be available for purchase. The feed store phone number will be available in the office.

    Exhibitors should arrange to feed their animals between 6:00 am - 8:00 am and 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

    The Ohio State Fair will follow the Ohio Department of Agriculture Livestock Exhibition Rules. No oil or oil-like show dressing will be permitted at the Ohio State Fair during the show. Water is the preferred and

    accepted dressing

    Powder and whitewash will not be allowed on Chester White, Landrace and Yorkshire,

    Poland China will not be permitted to use paint, powder or oil at the Ohio State Fair.

    The use of the above will result in forfeiture of premiums.

    Any breed failing to exhibit a total of 15 animals in the breeding classes will be cause for evaluation of continuing this breed in future shows.

    Anyone showing a boar must be 18 or older or have a written parent consent at check-in.

    AWARDS Animals in each class will be placed on a 1-2-3-4 etc. basis and the premiums as listed will be paid on the numerical

    placing. The placing premiums will be as follows:o Gilts: $50; 40; 30; 20; 10; 10; o Boars: $50; 30; 20

    All Champion Open Boars and Gilts must sell, if a breed sale is offered. Any Champion or Reserve Champion Junior Fair Gilt may sell; 3rd or 4th in the Breed sale unless an original donor gilt.

    Class size breakdown. Gilt classes will be divided by a maximum of 12 head per class plus or minus three (3) head. All classes will be shown youngest to oldest. Boar classes will be divided by a maximum of six (6) per class plus or minus two (2) head. All classes will show youngest to oldest.

    Individual health papers and registration papers for these sale animals will be collected at check-in time. All 1st; 2nd; and 3rd place gilts must sell. All 1st and 2nd place boars must sell.

    All Breeds and Tamworth may be nominated for this sale and a $10 fee will be collected. All champion and reserve champion open boars and gilts must sell. Sale expense, payable to the Ohio Berkshire Association, will be prorated and deducted from selling price. Sale

    entries must be made to Don Geer, Sale Manager. Guidelines are listed in the breed section of the exhibitor's information.

    The Grand and Reserve Champion and 1st and 2nd place boars and gilts along with those selected by the Sale Committee will be mandatory to sell in the sale. The Breed Associations and the Youth Crossbred Jackpot Gilts Sale Committee will make sale order.

    The Ohio Duroc Breeders Association will hold a sale of boars and gilts in the Swine Arena following the show. Out of state exhibitors are eligible. All hogs sold in the sale will be released immediately after the sale. Sale animals and order will be made by sale committee and judge.

    The Ohio Hampshire Association will hold a sale of Hampshire, Yorkshire and Landrace boars and gilts in the swine arena after the conclusion of the open show. All sale entries must be entered and shown in Junior or Open Class Show. Out of state exhibitors are eligible.

    Premier Buckeye Exhibitor — In honor of Charles (Chuck) Andrews this award shall be presented by the Ohio Hampshire Breeders Association to the exhibitor from the state of Ohio who accumulates the most premium dollars. Award will be presented just before the beginning of the sale.

    DIVISION 1606 LANDRACEEnter all Landrace Boars and Gilts in Class 50

    Registration papers are mandatory at check-in. Powder, whitewash, or artificial dressing will not be allowed on Landrace or premiums will not be paid. Landrace swine exhibiting any spot of natural skin pigmentation or hair color will be ineligible for all state shows. The Ohio Landrace Association requires that the Grand and Reserve Champion gilts and boars participate in the NSR

    sale at the 2020 Ohio State Fair. An annual meeting of the Ohio Landrace Breeders' Association will be held in the swine barn prior to the Open Class

    Landrace Show. The Ohio Landrace Breeders Association requests that all exhibitors of Landrace hogs at the Ohio State Fair please

    pay their annual Ohio Landrace Breeders Association membership dues to the Secretary/Treasurer of the association before the exhibitor participates in the Ohio State Fair Landrace Show.

    Numbers will be available in barn for you to apply. Paint brands should be put on the sides of the gilts. All gilts selected to sell must sell in auction on Sunday, August 2nd. Gilts are selected for the sale based on the

    recommendation from the judge(s) and selected sale committee members. Gilts will sell at the end of the Session 2 Breed Sale. A 15% commission will be charged. See Session 2 Breed Sale for

    Entries must include exhibitors name, complete address, and entry fees. A maximum of six (6) head of market barrows, may be entered. It is mandatory all purebred barrows have individual registration papers at weigh and check-in. All barrows will be divided into classes after weigh-in on Wednesday, July 31. Any breed exhibiting less than 12 animals will be combined with the next smallest breed. All purebred barrows and

    crossbred barrows will then be placed in classes with a maximum of 16 head per class.Example: 16 and under – 1 class; Over 17 – 2 classes

    If entering both Open and Junior, you MUST complete online entry forms. LATE ENTRY (June 21-July 20) requires a $50.00 late fee per exhibitor, per species, plus the usual per animal charge. If

    RULES Premiums per class will be paid on a jackpot basis: 1st place - $2 per animal shown in class; 2nd place - $1

    per animal shown in class. Judges will disqualify barrows showing evidence of late castration, cryptorchidism, or serious structural

    defects, regardless of the apparent muscling or degree of finish shown. After weigh-in, judging sheets and programs will be printed listing each of the exhibitors’ barrows placed

    in the proper breed and weight class. Registration papers and breed standards are required for purebred classes. Registration papers are mandatory

    at weigh and check-in. Exhibitors must USE WATER ONLY on barrows when grooming for show. No oil or what appears to be oil

    SPECIAL AWARDS The Ohio Berkshire Association will present $50 to the owner of the Grand Champion barrow at the Ohio State Fair

    providing it is a Berkshire with both sire and dam recorded in the Berkshire Association and if a picture and story are supplied.

    The American Berkshire Association, P.O. Box 2436, West Lafayette, Indiana 47996 offers a plaque to the overall Grand Champion Barrow if the animal is from a recorded Berkshire litter and the Association is supplied a photo and story within 30 days of the show.

    The Chester White Swine Record Association, offers $50 for Grand Champion Barrow over all breeds, provided they are from litters recorded in this Association and a picture of the winner and application for award, signed by Fair Management, is received within 30 days following the show.

    The Ohio Duroc Breeders’ Association, will award $50 to the exhibitor of the Grand Champion Barrow (purebred or crossbred), if sired by a registered Duroc Boar. The owner of the barrow must be able to verify name and registry number of the sire at time of award.

    The Poland China Record Association, Inc., P. O. Box 9758, Peoria, IL 61612, will present a trophy to the exhibitor of the Grand Champion Barrow over all breeds providing they are out of a recorded Poland China litter. A picture of winning animal, barrow certificate and certification by an Ohio State Fair official must be sent to the Poland China Record Association within 30 days of show.

    The National Spotted Swine Record, Inc., will award $50 to the owner and exhibitor of the Grand Champion Barrow over all breeds provided the exhibitor is a member of the National Record and the barrow is verified from a litter reported with the National Record. The Association will award $50 to the owner and exhibitor of the Grand Champion Barrow over all breeds over all breeds or a crossbred if sired by a recorded Spotted Boar. Payment will be made upon receipt of notice by show officials.

    SALE OF BARROWS The Ohio Expositions Commission and Management would like to express their gratitude to United Producers

    Inc. for their assistance in promoting and managing the Ohio State Fair tele-auction of barrows. A sale expense fee of $3.50 per barrow will be deducted from sale proceeds. The barrow owners will

    be paid sale price minus sale expense fee and additional one quarter of one percent (.0025) of the market value per barrow will be deducted to be paid to the National Pork Producers Council to promote the Pork and Swine Industries.

    All barrows shall remain the property of the exhibitor until loaded on the purchaser’s truck, Sunday, August 9.

    SPECIAL RULES Contest open to Ohio residents. Boar must pass health requirements of the Ohio State Fair. The winning boar must be in place at the Ohio State Fair by 12:00 noon, Thursday, July 29 and on display

    until 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 9th. The winning boar is to be displayed in a designated educational exhibit area of the Swine Barn; however,

    he may be removed from the display for exercise, washing and other essential activities as long as he is properly handled.

    The educational exhibit area will be supervised and helpers will be available to care for the boar, doing routine chores, but will not be held responsible in any way for the health and welfare of the boar if the exhibitor elects to have the boar cared for by the Ohio State Fair.

    The exhibitor of the boar must have adequate liability insurance, as most farm protection policies provide. Entries must be made and due in the Ohio State Fair Entry Department by June 20. The entry shall give a

    name, or some identification of the boar, the boar weight, exhibitor’s name and address and a telephone number.

    The entry received with the heaviest weight will be the winning boar and eligible to be exhibited. If more than one entry has the same heaviest weight, the Ohio State Fair Entry Department will draw lots for the boar entry to be accepted.

    If the winning boar dies, or becomes incapacitated so it may not be exhibited at the Fair, then the next heaviest weight or lot drawn will be the entry.

    The entry accepted and exhibited shall receive $150 and a banner.
