Safe, Effective & Practical Detoxification:
The ‘WHY’
Tissue samples from cadavers in the late 1970’s found that almost 100% had one to many chemical compounds stored in their body.
– These chemicals included known toxins like DDT, PCP, PCB, and dioxin.
1982 NAT Survey* showed 100% samplescontained toxic chemical compounds (e.g., dioxin).
KEY POINT: Finding a toxin‐free person is as difficult as finding a needle in a haystack.
*US EPA NHATS (National Adipose Tissue Survey, 1982)
Safe, Effective & Practical Detoxification:
The ‘WHY’
“For the first time in the history of the world, every human being is now subjected to contact with dangerous chemicals, from the moment of conception until death.
In the less than two decades of their use, the synthetic pesticides have been so thoroughly distributed throughout the animate and inanimate world that they occur virtually everywhere.”
Rachel Carson, Silent Spring, 1962
9
Toxicity is a reality … everyone is carrying a toxic burden.
Dr. Walter Crinnion, ND from Murray M, Pizzorno J., Textbook of Natural Medicine, p 299
Impaired Detoxification
Brain ‘fog’
Unable to concentrate, irritable, confused
Mood swings
Restlessness
Headaches
Chemical sensitivities
Joint Pain
Hives, rashes
Fluid retention
Feels ‘unwell’
Immune dysfunction– Under/Overactive
– Autoimmune
Digestive disorders
Food sensitivities
Chronic fatigue
Frequent illness
Loss or exaggerated sense of smell or taste
Weight gain
Sleep disturbances
Intestinal Toxicity
Dysbiosis:
Pathologic microorganisms in the GI tract create exotoxins that go directly to the liver and can unbalance Phase I & II reactions.
Entero‐hepatic circulation will recycle toxins that are in your intestines and not eliminated in feces.
10
Intestinal Toxicity:Symptoms
Abdominal pain/tenderness
Diarrhea/Constipation
Gas/Bloating
Mucus/blood in stool
Sensitive to perfumes, chemicals, cigarette smoke
Worse damp, wet weather
Crave sugar, bread, alcohol
Fatigue, lethargy, feel “drained”
Feeling ‘spacey or unreal’
Allergies / itchy
– food, airborne, chemical
Chronic Sinus Congestion
Numbness, burning or tingling
Muscle aches
Pain and/or swelling in joints
Headaches
Can’t think/concentrate/poor memory
The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive.
Robert Heinlein
The KEY:Minimizing the Total Toxic Load
LESS TOXINS IN:
Minimize Exposure to xenobiotics
Minimize Exotoxins from unhealthy gut
+MORE TOXINS OUT:
Replenish Deficiencies that impair neutralization and/or elimination of toxins
Reduce Burden of accumulated toxins
11
Detoxification:
Far‐infrared sauna therapy– Detox through skin (plus via liver/gut/kidneys)
– Help deplete load of fat‐soluble chemicals/toxins
– Low temp (110‐120 F) = just till sweat; 10‐30‐60 mins
– Ensure adequate adrenal & gut health; nutrient stores
Coffee enemas– Increase bile flow
– Upregulation CYP450 1A2 = affect some medications, hormones, etc.
Foot baths– Published evidence of efficacy?
Detoxification: Two Basic Approaches
Provocative
– Stimulate the release of stored toxins
Supportive
– Provide the body with it’s fundamental needs to properly detoxify
Detoxification:
Provocative ‐ stimulate the release of stored toxins
Fasting
– Accelerates detoxification process
– Increased nutrient requirements (phase 2)
Chelation
– Pulls toxins back in to circulation
– Increased detox requires clear detox pathways:
• liver/bile flow
• intestinal health/transit time
• kidneys
12
Detoxification:
Supportive – Provide fundamental needs to detoxify (to neutralize and/or eliminate toxins)
Clean diet Oligoantigenic diet (gut)
Nutrient‐rich foods (nutrients)
Gut support Reduce gut‐generated exotoxins
Nutrient support Repenish macro/micronutrient deficiencies
Guaranteed …Frustration, Agony & Lost Income!

4. Create ContextLESS TOXIC = FEEL BETTER
A detoxification program was administered to female workers who had been exposed to PCBs and other fat‐soluble industrial chemicals.
Detoxification treatment reduced the PCB levels in adipose tissue by 63% and in serum by 49%.
The signs & symptoms these women had been
complaining of improved.
Tretjak Z, Shields M, Beckmann SL. PCB reduction and clinical improvement by detoxification: an unexploited approach? Hum Exp Toxicol 1990;9:235‐44

4. Create ContextLESS TOXIC = LOOK BETTER
There is currently no way of testing to determine the total amount of chemicals in a person’s body.
But, exposure of animals to chemical toxins changes body composition in favor of fat accumulation.
So, the poorer one’s body composition (less muscle and more fat), the more likely one has higher amounts of toxins stored away

* BodyBio Oil 4:1
23
6. Detoxification:Sufficient calories
39 obese persons on a calorie‐restricted diet for 15 weeks.
All chemical toxins studied increased in the blood stream while people were losing weight.
More weight (fat) someone lost, the higher the toxin levels.
“These results raise concerns about an undesired and potentially harmful side effect of weight loss…”
Chevrier J, Dewailly E, Ayotte P, et al. Body weight loss increases plasma and adipose tissue concentrations of potentially toxic pollutants in obese individuals. Int J Obes Relat Metab Disord 2000;24:1272‐8
6. Detoxification:Limit Digestive Burden
“Elimination” Diet
– Avoid more common antigenic foods: Gluten, casein, soy, citrus, corn
– Minimize refined, processed food, toxic: Trans fats, “white” food, sugar, chemicals Unsafe fish (swordfish, tilefish, grouper, org. roughy, tuna, bluefish, bass, halibut)
– Emphasize: Nutrient‐rich organic foods Colorful vegetables (+cruciferous)
