Mini-Implants Past, Present, and Future: Didactic and Prosthetics Hands-onIsn’t it strange that in 2012 when we can send someone to the moon, we still cannot help edentulous patients to eat with secure dentures at an affordable price and with a painless procedure? Of course we already have one good treatment plan proven to work, which is standard implants with or without a bar. Unfortunately despite the fact that it is a very good solution, it is still not affordable or feasible for every patient. Unfortunately over 80% of our elderly edentulous patients fall in this category. So, what are we going to do with those 80% who cannot afford the standard implants? Dental adhesive which may be toxic! This is where the new Mini-implant technique can help! This technique appeared in United States over ten years ago, and is just beginning to spread in Canada. This dynamic and new lecture will present the results obtained during the last 10 years, what we are doing now and what we can expect to do in the near future. Every denturist will be able to evaluate the serious of that new technique and see if it is something they want to bring to their practice or not, and if so, how to do it!

Dr. Bruno Lemay was introduced to the small diameter implants at UCLA. In 2000, he started practicing in Palm Springs, California where he perfected his technique with small diameter implants and developed his own protocol to finally reach incredible success. In 2009, he started the Canadian Mini-Implant Institute specializing in the teaching of the mini-implant technique all around Canada. Since then he has been giving hundreds of weekend comprehensive training and has written several

articles in denturist and dental journals.
