Director’s LetterWhat a thrill and honor it is to be working on the Crighton Theatre

stage again. This wonderful theatre has been the source of many great memories for me over the years and I’m happy that you chose to attend this performance of “Anything Goes”.

1930’s-era musical comedies have always held a special place in my heart because of their musical scores and, even more importantly, their extensive use of tap dancing. There’s no sound on earth like the sound of 20 or 30 chorus dancers executing a marvelous tap production number on stage and “Anything Goes” happily provides opportunities for that. Five minutes after the curtain goes up, you’ll forget all your troubles and cares.

I first experienced “Anything Goes” in the 1990’s. Ever since, it has been one of the musicals I’ve longed to direct and present to Conroe audiences. It’s one of those classic musical comedies that you just can’t help falling in love with. With an energetic and upbeat musical score by Cole Porter, many of the songs have become standards over the years and you’ll find yourself tapping your toes to their familiar melodies. Although the show was written and produced in 1934, (incidentally, the same year the Crighton Theatre was built), it remains extremely relevant today thanks in large part to Porter’s score. Then, as now, America was emerging from a wrecked economy and there was a feeling of optimism in the air – the feeling that things were definitely going to improve.

I am thankful for my wonderful cast and crew on this show. It takes a multitude of people to bring a musical to life. Thank you to Penny An-dros for being my partner both on and off the stage. Life with you is “De-Lovely”. Thank you also to my good friend, Cheré Baldwin, at Starbound Dance for always coming to my rescue when I needed rehearsal facilities and providing me with a place to teach my tap classes. I want to thank the Stage Right Board of Directors and Carolyn and Steven Wong for giving me the opportunity to direct one of my all-time favorite musicals. Thank you to my fantastic set design, scenic design and construction crew. I’m sure that if I ever directed a musical needing a spaceship you guys could build it!

I sincerely hope that you enjoy this show as much as I have over the years. Now sit back and enjoy your cruise aboard the ship where “Any-thing Goes”. All aboard the S. S. American!

She also worked with Dr. Diana Alan as she re-searched the effects of performance stress and the brain. While in San Antonio she worked with the San Antonio Opera Guild’s travelling group, Opera in the Schools.
