The Diploma consists of Principal Learning, Generic Learning and Additional and Specialist Learning. In order to achieve a Diploma, learners must successfully complete all components and have their achievement recorded on DAS (Diploma Aggregation Service) in order for aggregation of the final Diploma result to occur.
THE COMPONENTS OF A DIPLOMA CAN BE ACHIEVED WITH DIFFERENT AWARDING BODIESDiploma awards can only be achieved when each of the component qualifications has been attained and correctly recorded on the DAS. In order to achieve a Diploma, learners must successfully complete all of the following components.
CAB (Component Aggregation Service) Delivered: • Principal Learning • Project Qualifications • Functional Skills in English, Mathematics and Information
Communication Technology • Additional and Specialist Learning qualifications
Centre Delivered: • Work Experience • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
The component qualifications can be taken with different Awarding Bodies.
AGGREGATION OF RESULTSThe DAS will aggregate the outcome for a Diploma result when: - All DAS account administration has been completed
successfully such as registration, DAB association and a claim has been made
- Sufficient component results have been received from CABs and the combination of those components is acceptable
- PLTS and Work Experience have been confirmed on the learner record by the centre
Once aggregation occurs your chosen DAB will be informed and will confirm the outcome. - Aggregated Diploma results will be available on the DAS and
Awarding Body extranets. - Edexcel Online will allow the download of learner results
and printing of provisional transcripts to hand to learners on results day.
- Certification will follow in October.
The role of the DAB is to award the Diploma grade and certificate once the DAS indicates satisfactory attainment of each component. Thus DABs have no authority to participate in the administration of the component aggregation processes, including the management of component completion.

Key Contacts on Results Day
Where learners have not completed all the required components the DAS will not aggregate a final Diploma result. As your DAB we will only be informed of complete and aggregated learners.
A RESULT HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR A COMPONENT BUT IT’S NOT SHOWING ON THE DASIf a learner has received a result from the Component Awarding Body but it is not showing on the DAS record, contact the awarding body that issued the component result and check that they have a valid ULN. As long as a result has a valid ULN attached, awarding bodies are required to post results to DAS.
MY LEARNER’S PLTS OR WORK EXPERIENCE IS NOT SHOWING ON THE DASWhilst most of the components are delivered by awarding bodies, who post outcomes to the DAS on behalf of the learner, PLTS and work experience are delivered and reported directly by centres. Should these components not be confirmed on the DAS as complete, aggregation will not occur. After results day, once these have been confirmed via the learner record, aggregation will occur immediately assuming all other requirements have been met.
MY LEARNER HAS NOT ACHIEVED A COMPONENT, CAN THEY STILL AGGREGATE LATER?If a learner has not achieved the required components, the DAS will aggregate once all of the requirements have been met. A learner may re-take that component when ready. After results
day, once all components are logged correctly on the DAS, aggregation will occur daily and results will be issued. Your chosen DAB will be informed and confirmation of the new result will follow.
WHAT POST-RESULTS SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE FROM THE DAB?As your DAB we have limited authority to resolve issues with Diploma aggregation, but we are available to help assist centres with any enquiries they may have with the Diploma outcomesfor learners.
ARE THERE ENQUIRES ABOUT DIPLOMA RESULTS AND APPEALS SERVICES AVAILABLE FROM THE DAB?Diploma results are an aggregation of its components. It is only by enquiring and adjusting the component outcomes, if incorrect, that the DAS is able to re-aggregate the Diploma grade. The DAB has no authority to amend a component outcome or grade. Please contact the Component Awarding Body which issued the component result with a result enquiry.
Awarding Bodies will inform the DAS of any changes to results following a PostResults Enquiry and the DAS will re-aggregate should a new result be available. This re-aggregation check happens on a daily basis after results day.
If you are not satisfied with the service you have received from your CAB, DAB or DAS you may contact Ofqual for [email protected].
Non-Aggregation, next steps
ON THE DAS
The learner record on the DAS will display the status of the learner’s Diploma qualification and all results attached to it via the ULN.
It will allow centres: - to view progress and the final outcomes within each learner
record - to run a status report for any learner with incomplete
Diploma results - to print a Progress Statement for any learners who are yet
to aggregate.
It will not: - provide any results documents for completed learners - provide any summaries for completed learners.
VIA AWARDING BODY
Edexcel is producing a Diploma results section on EdexcelOnline.
Where Edexcel is the DAB and has confirmed the DAS aggregation, this will allow centres to: - view overall grades for completed Diploma learners - download a provisional transcript for each learner,
individually or across a range - download a spreadsheet of learner’s transcripts.
LEARNER TRACKING
The Edexcel Diploma Learner Tracking System will display the Diploma grade on both the overview and the IndividualLearner Record screens.
How do I get my Diploma results?
CAN I GET MY RESULTS DIRECTLY THROUGH MY MIS SYSTEM?
There is a facility for receiving Diploma results from the DAS using your MIS system, however MIS providers are still developing this functionality and until it is released Diploma results are unable to be issued via EDI.

How do the components work?
UNDERSTANDING MY PRINCIPAL LEARNING AND PROJECT POINTS SCORE AND GRADEYou will notice that there are points scores for each unit. These are the points that determine which grade the learner has achieved for a unit and defines the overall Principal Learning or Project grade and the final Diploma grade during aggregation. Points scores and grades change depending on the size, or Guided Learning Hours (GLH) of a unit. Larger units are worth more points towards the Diploma.
On the back of your CSPR, or in the results pack, you will find the table which shows how many points each grade is worth, depending on the GLH of the unit. You can find the GLH for a unit in the specification or in the results pack.
Where there is no points score a learner could be absent (X) or incomplete (Q).
UNDERSTANDING MY FUNCTIONAL SKILLS POINTS SCOREAND GRADEFunctional Skills points do not contribute to the Diploma points aggregation but are simply a means to calculate whether a learner has passed each of the Functional Skills subjects. All Functional Skills units are issued with a maximum points score of 6 per unit (6 points indicates a pass at Level 1 or 2). For Level 2 units FE203, FE212, FM201 and FT201, learners who have received a points score of 5, have qualified for an exceptional award at Level 1 in that unit and may therefore be eligible for an overall award at Level 1 if they have achieved all other qualifying units.
