Scottish Landscape Institute MANIFESTO
The act of building is a statement. When an institution is materializing there is an opportunity for that institution to sketch the future today.
Similarly to architecture, landscape design is a holistic approach towards managing our resources. The profession changed a lot since its birth some 300 years ago but even before that people were practicing landscape designactively in order to survive.
Today, landscape architects are badly needed at the highest level of decision making. We as a species gained powers and knowledge like never before. For the first time we have the responsibility not only for ourselves but for the whole planet. The Scottish Landscape Institute is a place where in the middle of the city of Glasgow you can learn how nature works and see how the history of our understanding about it evolved. Vegetation is nested in the townscape. The sun is used as a primary source of energy. Natural light and ventilation act throughout the building. Grand views towards the city and the land beyond offer new perspectives for the visitor. The scale of the city is changing as you move up.
