IntheSpringof2015,theGreaterEssexCountyDistrictSchoolBoardembarkedonaDigitalLearningJourneywhichincludedhalfdaylearningarounddigitalcitizenshipandresponsibilityineverysingleclassroom,witheverysinglestudent.Eachlessonfocusedon21stcenturytopicsandbeganaconversationthatsharedtherules,expectations,andconsequencesofengaginginthedigitalword.

Thefollowingwaskeptinmindforalllessons.Whenusingtechnology,studentsareexpectedto:17.1.Representandconductthemselvesinaccordancewithschoolcodesofconductandexpectations.17.2.Useapoliteandrespectfultoneinallcommunicationsandnotusespeechorexpressionwhichisprofane,disrespectful,slanderous,racist,sexist,libelous,insulting,threatening,hateful,discriminatory,harassingorbullying.17.3.ImmediatelyinformtheirteacherorschoolPrincipalorVicePrincipaliftheymistakenlyaccessinappropriateDigitalContentwhileatschool.17.4.Neveragreetomeetwithacontacttheyhaveonlymetthroughusingtechnology,unlessaspartoftheireducationalprograme.g.co-opandunderthesupervisionoftheirteacher.17.5.Neveridentifytheirage,telephonenumber,homeaddressorotherpersonalinformationinUserProfilesorcommunicationsorcontentusingDigitalServices.
