MURPHY PICKS TWO AS DIESELS WIN TIGHT ONE AGAINST HUNTERS----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Newcastle,NSW | The Wellington Diesels won a tight and important encounter 21-17 over the Newcastle Hunters. Star of the night was Wellington Cornerback Tauryn Murphy who twice picked Quarterback Luke Ogden including a game winning interception in the final seconds. “They had been successful a couple of times going inside but I knew they might try a double move” said Murphy when asked about his play. “I had help over the top so played underneath and the bal was under thrown making it easier to pick”. Murphy still had to make a great catch and it was in the end zone and it was a game defining moment. Had he missed the Hunters would have scored and that would have won the match.

The first half was very much one big arm wrestle with both sides punting4 times each for field position. Murphy made his fisrt pick but Wellington fumbled the chance away when Rodney Williams was stripped as he tried to avoid the pass rush. The dramatic change of events allowed the Hunters to cash in with Ogden finding his Tight End Jason Earl in the corner after the coverage crashed hard under neath to take away Fullback Peter Paea.

Wellington would send the game into halftime tied at 7 when Rowan Binge had his coverage removed by a great screen block and he strolled in from 7 yards.

The Diesels took the lead when Bradley Starks got separation deep and Williams hit him in stride from 27 yards. This was matched with Ogden finding a deep streaking Jack Gagan from 52 yards out. Nothing seemed to separate the teams and Newcastle seemed to be getting on tiop after forcing a punt. But they could just managed a field goal to Henerai Lowe. The door was ajar and Williams pushed it open when he found Neil Palau over the middle with just 2m33 remaining and the 21-17 lead.

The Hunters had one final chance and Ogden looked in control as he moved the team efficiently down the field. However the shot he took to win the game fell short and Murphy had read the play. Game over.
