DIEGO GUERRERO BIOGRAPHY

Every now and then, an artist appears, bringing something truly different, and its not something learnt, its something lived. Born in Andalusia, and now residing in Madrid, singer, arranger and composer Diego Guerrero is capable of bearing a group of artists beyond mere collaboration into the realm of co-existence. Directed and arranged by a ground breaking, mastermind young innova-tor, El Solar de Artistas unites an elite selection of Flamenco and Latin musicians residing in Spain. Diego’s background as an arranger, combined with his upbringing amongst flamenco culture, promises audiences a live show with unexpected impact and musical depth. Emotive flamenco voices and guitar are contrasted by a lively Cuban rhythm section. You will find his risk taking orchestrations to be an un-bridled adventure through of the genres of guaguanco, bulería, tango, copla, conga and rumba flamenca.

Diego became recognised by the musical elite of the Spanish circuit in 2004 when he earned the title of arranger and director of the first Flamenco Big Band. Legendary percussionist Rubem Dantas (from the Paco de Lucia Septet) invited Diego to orchestrate pieces such as “Zyriab” and “Potro de Rabia y Miel” for an all star big band line-up featuring Carles Benavent, Jorge Pardo, Jerry Gonzalez, Caramelo de Cuba amongst others. It was a critical moment in Diego’s career marking him as a key player in the future of the Spanish music platform.

Diego’s fusion project “El Solar de Artistas” was born strong. At their humble debut at the Interna-tional Festival of Music and Dance in Granada in July 2010 the venue Los Palacios de los Córdova was overwhelmed with spectators and the festival quickly adapted the 200-capaity space to accom-modate a crowd of 600 before closing the doors and leaving people in the street. He went on to complete two sold out tours to Australia followed by a national tour in Spain, presenting this new project for the first time to his hometown audien-ce who received him in the Grand Teatro in another sold out show with encores and standing applauses.

2011 was an even greater year for this revolutio-nary artist, thanks to his collaboration on the album “Huellas” by flamenco flute player Jorge Pardo and the premiere of the new show “Sefarad” in the prestigious Suma Flamenca festival of Madrid. Designed and arranged by Diego, Sefarad is a live collaboration between Diego and the world famous Israeli pop singer Idan Raichel. Amongst other sold out shows were the Masala festival in Germany and the Noche en Blanco in Málaga with Jerry Gonzalez (Calle 54, Forte Apache) as a special guest. The summer of 2011 saw the debut of Diego’s new horn section Los Vientos del Solar on the European festival circuit. Guerrero made main stage appearances featuring guest artists Jorge Pardo y Jerry Gonza-lez at the Foro Iberamericano de la Rábida and Etnosur. The new enhanced lineup was hand selected to represent Andalucía before an audien-ce of world music festival bookers at Mercat de Musica Viva de Vic in September and again at WOMEX in Copenhaguen. Between festivals in South Korea, Italy, Germany, Denmark and Spain, Diego had a big year in 2011.

2012 started on a high note with Diego’s fourth tour to Australia. Highlights included performan-ces at the world renowned WOMADelaide festival in Adelaide as well as prestigious theatres in Sydney and Melbourne(City Recital Hall Angel Place and Melbourne Recital Centre), as well as the WOMAD festival in the breathtaking Taranaki province of New Zealand. His return to Spain landed him the title of musical producer for the new record label “Oido Records” where is recording and producing albums of well known flamenco artists such as “El Niño Miguel”, “La Nitra” and “Alberto Alcalá”. Summer kicked off on a high note with “El Solar Flamenco” performing at the renowned “Noche Blanca del Flamenco” in Cordoba amongst other important artists such as Tomatito, Duquende, La Susi, Pepe de Lucía and Kiko Veneno.

Diego is currently recording his new album to be titled "Porque vamos lejos" which is anticipated for release in late April of 2013. He is calling upon the forces of a selection of the finest musicians he has shared the stage with since the birth of his project and will inlude collaborations with guest musicians from not only spain but Europe, Australia and USA.
