PrefaceCreole, in history, was branded by the Europeans as the language of those they deemed inferior. As aresult of this disdain, creole languages have been regarded as degenerate or seen as an opposition tolanguage. It has been implied that people who are uneducated in standardized languages are unintelligent,however this discrimination is unwarranted as language is not a determinant of intelligence; it is simply amode of communication, and intelligence is better measured by one's ability to communicate with others,whether it be it in creole, standardized languages, or even sign language.

This book is a Jamaican patois/creole translation of the popular Æsop fable, “The Boy Who Cried,Wolf” by Craig Cole, a 1st Year music student of the Edna Manley College of the Visual &Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica. It has been transcribed to fulfill the requirement of the CollegeEnglish course taught by Ms. Ellis in an effort to give credence to Jamaican patois/creole as a legitimatelanguage that can be written as well as spoken. This gesture will hopefully bridge the gap betweenstandard English and patois in Jamaica and possibly aid in the county's language education.
