great event. The kids and the riders were greeted with great food and fel-lowship. Great job Dan and Rose Ann.
While we are speaking of the Kaufman Shelter, please remember we are returning there in December! We have a trip planned for what is called “The Kaufman Christmas Ride” on Sunday, December 21st this year. Mark your calendars!! Another one of the upcoming events, the famous “Polar Bear Ride”, held on January 1st, will be great time for our club to be with the Freedom Riders and their families while enjoying great food at the McDonald home. Dan and Rose Ann, as always, will be the gracious host and welcome us all for fine food and all the great deserts!! Remember, the Forum has full details on this and all our upcoming and amazing events.
Moving on, at our last monthly meeting, we started a new trend. That is to show a short video presenta-tion on motorcycle safety and riding skills. This recent video discussed the “Group Riding Techniques and Sug-gestions”. While the DFW Freedom Riders already have such rules and techniques in place, it’s always great
to keep reminding all the riders of the overall mes-sage, BE A SAFE AND TEAM RIDER. We plan to show these type videos, if possible, at all upcoming meetings.
Also, during the meet-ing, we had discussions on various other topics of inter-
Ah, the feel of cool crisp air and the sound of the fall. What a great time to be a Motorcycle Rider and a member of the DFW Freedom Rid-ers! I say it’s perfect weather to get in the saddle and get riding! As I stated in my previous letter, it is a perfect time to get that much needed ride in while we have this perfect weather.
As previously announced, we are doing group rides throughout the DFW area, as well as overnight rides. Mike Reed, Ride Leader, is heading a group of riders to the Great State of Arkansas and, as anticipated, is expected to be a great ride in these glorious mountains. This ride will definitely be one for the memories and fun times with the group. Anoth-er great ride, led by Dan and Rose Ann McDonald, recently conducted the “Kevin Vardaman Memorial Kaufman School Supply Run”. This was where the Riders headed out to Kaufman, Texas to honor the kids at the Kaufman Children’s Shelter. All said and done, a large group of DFW Freedom Riders participated in this

Well, it’s that time to stop talking, straddle those bikes, get those kick stands up and get to riding!
Also, keep your front tire on the ground and ride safe! It’s the fall and let’s get out and enjoy this great weather!

Meeting Minutesby Dan McDonald, SecretaryOctober 16, 2014
Club President Sam Tough opened the September meeting with a greet-ing to all present and recognized that our only visitor at the meeting was his grandaughter, Caitlin. Sam also recognized our newest member, Jack Green from Grapevine.
Sam turned the meeting over to Vice President Bob Sympson who presented a recap of the previous month’s rides. Bob Sympson led a group of eight bikes on Sep 20th with lunch at Mom's on Main in Aubrey. Dan McDonald led a group of five bikes, several cars and fifteen people on Sep 25th to the Chophouse Burg-ers in Arlington. Luis Santana led a group of seventeen bikes on Sept 27th to the Horny Toad Grill in Cranfill's Gap. Thursday October 2nd's dinner ride was canceled due to inclement weather. Kevin Landis led a group of six bikes on Sept 4th to the Rip Festival in Eastland. The Arkansas trip scheduled for Thursday October 9th was postponed due to very bad weather in Arkansas. Bruce Johnson led the dinner ride to the Mexican Inn with 3 bikes and 5 people. The Sat-urday ride for the 11th was canceled due to rain. Sunday October 12th was the Ride for Kids at the Texas Motor Speedway. Almost 200 bikes made the ride on a picture perfect day and the DFW area ride raises over $120,000
for the Pediatric Tumor Foundation. Several Freedom Riders participated and/or volunteered to help out.
Sam showed a Motorcycle Safety Foundation video about Group Rid-ing Procedures. A discussion was held after the video about what had been observed and .
Mike Reed discussed the upcom-ing Fall ride to Arkansas, which had been rescheduled to October 30 through November 2nd. The motel arrangements remain the same and information is posted on the Forum. The ride is still being dedicated to Frosty Stoll, even though Rhonda will not be able to make the trip.
Dan McDonald discussed the Annual Kevin Vardaman Memorial Kaufman Kids School Supply ride on October 25th. For those not familiar with him, Kevin “Gorilla” Vardaman, fell in love with Kaufman and came up with the idea of providing school supplies for the kiddos in 2004. This will be our 10th year to take supplies to the shelter. We will leave from DFW Honda at 10am and head down to the shelter. LaReta will be provid-ing hot dogs and fixings for the group. We always like to chip in a “love offering” to cover their costs. We will also be taking school supplies, gift cards, cash donations and anything else we can come up with.
Sam also presented a flyer for the Red River Valley Motorcycle Ride also on October 25th which benefits volunteer firefighters in North Central Texas. The ride will originate in Whit-eright, which is north of McKinney.
Sam opened a discussion about procedures to help a ride organizer in planning an overnight trip. A brief discussion was started and it was sug-gested that we form an ad-hoc com-mittee to look into guidelines for the overnight trips. Rose Ann McDonald made a motion that we form a com-mitted. The motion was seconded by Bob Sympson and it was approved. Bob Sympson, Luis Santana, Ken Dunaway, Randy Langley, Sam Tough and Dan McDonald will form
the committee.Sam turned the meeting over to
Bruce Johnson, Treasurer, who pre-sented the club financial report and conducted the drawing for the meet-ing. Mike Sherwin won third place. Dan McDonald won second place and first place went to Mark Palmer. First and second prizes were donated to the Kaufman Children's Shelter.
Sam made note of all the birthdays in September, congratulating those who have survived another year.
Dan gave an update on Randy Langley's condition after his truck wreck. Randy will be out of com-

Kaufman School Supply RideThe ride to the Kaufman Chil-
dren's Shelter to take school supplies was once again a great success. It was a fairly small group of five bikes, three cars and thirteen people that
made the trip southeast, but we were warmly welcomed by the kiddos. They could hardly contain themselves as the bikes rolled in and immediately wanted to take rides. A short time was spent talking with them and showing the bikes, then it was time for lunch of hot dogs and chips. With their tum-mies (and ours) full it was time for the older kids to take rides. They almost wore out the ride givers in their excitement and didn't want the experi-ence to end.
All in all, we presented the shelter a table full of school supplies, plus almost $2,000 in gift cards and cash donations. A big thank you goes out to all who helped out.
The next trip down will be taking Christmas for the kids. We have set a date for that of Sunday, December 21st so get it on your calendar.
Ride For KidsThe annual Ride for Kids to ben-
efit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foun-dation came off without a hitch. Other than a very cool morning start, it was a picture perfect day for a ride in the country. There were over 150 motor-cycles parcicipating in the escorted forty six mile ride in the area north of the Texas Motor Speedway. This was the second year for the event at TMS and it has proven to be a great venue for the ride. The logistical headaches of escorting a ride of this size have been greatly reduced by not having so

Kaufman ChristmasSunday December 21
We as a club have committed to provide Christmas gifts for the kids at Kaufman. As usual, we will not know how many kids or specific requests until a couple of weeks before, but we always manage to pull it off. We will try to get a list of gift requests as early as possible, but as always the residency is fluid and we won't know too far ahead of time.
Watch the forum for additional information on how we can help cover this critical time of year in the life of the less fortunate kids at Kaufman.
We will make the trip to Kaufman on December 21st to take gifts and any other contributions we can gather.
Polar Bear Ride Thursday January 1, 2015
It's time to start planning for the Annual Polar Bear Ride on New Year's Day. Once again, the McDon-alds will host a lunch of stews and other goodies after a ride to welcome in the New Year. We will have a sign-up sheet at the December meeting for you to commit to bring any dishes or desserts that you want to supply This will be a rain or shine event. If the weather is inclement, we'll have a lot of fellowship and good food by travel-ing on four wheels.
We will start out at the Chevron/McDonald's in Grapevine at 10:00am and we will either ride before lunch, or eat first then ride later depending on weather and temperature for the day.
many city streets to manage. The ride was a success, even
though the fundraising goal was not met. A total of a little over $120,000 was raised by the DFW Ride for Kids,
and we are hoping to do even bet-ter next year. TMS has already been booked for the second weekend in October of 2015, so get it on your cal-endars and plan on riding.
