Knowledge and practical skills Training with the educationally optimized systems combines acquisition of knowledge with a high level of hands-on, vocational qualifications. Systems are closely modelled to actual practice. All power stages of real electrical machines are covered, ranging from simple motor controls to frequency converters up to and including servo converters with field-bus interfaces for integration into process automation. This training systems in this Lab lay the foundations for understanding how to handle voltage and current safely. For electrical engineers and electricians in particular, but for other professions too, handling of high voltage and current is a key skill. Using the automatic control technology training system, the student is not only introduced to the basics but also gains insight into more advanced areas in a graphic and practice-oriented way. In the process, modern training systems, such as digitally operating controllers from Lucas Nuelle as well as industrial Systems from SIEMENS combined in multimedia-based training systems, are used to convey practical skills and competence to the trainees.

The Lucas-Nulle training system on power engineering gives me as an instructor the opportunity to demonstrate and convey the technological context of power engineering to students in a graphic and practice-oriented fashion. Electrical power engineering includes the areas of power generation, transmission, distribution and electrical energy utilization as well as safety protective measures used in these areas. versatile system that can be adapted to fit all of the wide-ranging training requirements applicable to skilled workers, technicians or even engineers.

SCADA Laboratory at DEWA

The Generation & Distribution Laboratory allows training systems covering the generation, transmission and management of electrical energy as well as the protective equipment required to be combined, both electrically and by means of computer networks. All relevant values can be measured via the smart grid control center and the necessary switching operations undertaken. This makes it possible to study the influence of renewable energy generation in laboratories. A host of scenarios can be emulated, such as the following: • Charging of electric cars when there

is a surplus of wind energy • Storage of excess energy in pumped-

storage hydroelectric plants • Disconnection of consumers to

reduce peak load
