PRASANA LATHA A/P SILVALINGAMSPEECH NOTE ON THE ROLE OF A STUDENT Good morning to lecturers and fellow classmates. Introduction to the topic - designing teaching resources for ELT classroom in Malaysia. Introduction of speakers - Nurul Amirah Zulkifly (Representative from CDC ) Muhammad Qawiem Ibrahim (Teacher from Malacca High School) Theebann Mahendran (Curriculum Specialist from MOE) Prasana Latha Silvalingam (Student from Malacca High School) Share point of view of a student on teaching resources used in ELT classroom-Very limited as in teachers prefers to use traditional teaching resources as in flash cards and textbooks.-Exploration on teaching resources should be done so that more ideas on types of teaching resources can be obtained. Relate PISA ranking with development in designing teaching resources.-India ranked 72nd place while Malaysia ranked 67th place in PISA, however development in designing teaching resources Malaysia is way behind.- In India a set of simple games for rural children learning English, based on traditional village games, are designed on mobile phones to encourage students to learn English and improve on the proficiency level.-Unfortunately, in Malaysia digital games to enhance L2 learning is still not implemented.

Advantages of digital games in enhancing L2 learning.-General benefits such as enhancement of digital literacy, increasing socialization, and/or building self-confidence-Language use arises organically from the game and can involve interaction with players from a variety of backgrounds,-Players receive a constant stream of feedback in response to game events, player interactions, and speech input. Responses to that feedback engage the player in repeating, revising, and/or reformulating statements.

Conclusion-Teaching resources should suit the development of time so that students participation would be higher in ELT classroom.
