In honor of Earth Day (April 22), Pet Supplies Plus® of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan is encouraging pet owners
to be kind to the planet and Prevent Littering® by getting their dogs and cats spayed and neutered.
From March 1 through April 16, the store has teamed up with Nooters Club® and All About Animals Rescue to
sponsor Prevent Littering®, a promotion aimed at encouraging more pet owners to get their pets fixed to avoid
unwanted litters. During this time, pet owners who pre-pay can get their pet spayed or neutered on April 17 for
only $50 for dogs and $30 for cats. The procedures can cost $200 or more at most veterinary hospitals.
Eligible pets must be at least eight weeks old and will be transported from Pet Supplies Plus® in Bloomfield
Hills to the All About Animals Rescue spay and neuter clinic in Warren, Michigan on April 17 and returned to
their owners later in the day. All About Animals Rescue runs the first full-time spay and neuter clinic in
southeast Michigan offering high quality, high volume spays and neuters performed by licensed veterinarians
(allaboutanimalsrescue.org).
With each pre-paid spay or neuter, pet owners will receive a free Prevent Littering® cotton canvas shopping
bag courtesy of Nooters Club® filled with discount coupons and free samples from Pet Supplies Plus®. Nooters
Club®, based in Sylvan Lake, Michigan, designs and sells a variety of whimsical apparel and gifts promoting
pet spay and neuter with a part of its proceeds going to rescue organizations (nootersclub.org).
In Michigan, hundreds of thousands of healthy dogs, cats and other pets are euthanized each year simply
because there is not enough room for them at shelters. Animal rescue groups agree that making spay and neuter
more accessible to pet owners is the key to reducing pet overpopulation.
“Pet owners need to recognize that they can be part of the solution in reducing pet overpopulation,” said Addy
Shattuck, owner of Pet Supplies Plus® in Bloomfield Hills. “One unintended litter can produce hundreds if not
thousands of unwanted pets that often do not find homes. What better time than Earth Day to remind pet owners
what they can do to help stop this cycle.”
Besides helping to reduce the population of unwanted pets, spay and neuter also offers many health and
behavioral benefits to pets. Pets that are fixed live longer lives, avoid the possibility of getting some cancers, are

Animal lovers in Oakland County now have a new way to “Prevent Littering” and Go Green -
Pet Supplies “Plus” and Nooters Club Apparel and Gifts have teamed up to offer a new canvas shopping
tote bag to remind people to stop pet overpopulation and to replace plastic grocery bags with reusable,
environmentally-friendly tote bags. The tote bags, made of sturdy, natural-colored cotton canvas, have
the Nooters Club logo and the phrase “Prevent Littering” surrounded by cartoon puppies or kittens and
are designed to create awareness of pet overpopulation and preventing unwanted litters. They also
make excellent shopping totes, making the effort to reduce the number of plastic shopping bags that fill
U.S. landfills every year easier – and a lot more stylish. The bags are available in either a dog or cat
design for $10 each with $1 of every purchase going towards the Oakland Pet Fund Spay/Neuter Fund.
Additionally, when a customer purchases a “Prevent Littering” tote bag, Pet Supplies “Plus” is offering
20 percent off the total purchase. Each year, thousands of pets in Oakland County and 65 percent of all
animals that end up in shelters nationwide are destroyed due to pet overpopulation. Nooters Club
