ARROW UNIT 1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (2) A 2-1/2" squares. Lay (1) A 2-1/2” square on oppo site corners of (1) F 4-1/2” square, right sides together (RST). Sew diagonal seams. Trim leaving 1/4”seam allowance. Press. Repeat for opposite corners.

2. Sew (1) A 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” to opposite sides of these pieced squares. Make (2).

3. Using the feather paper piecing pattern, make (2) and (2) in reverse as shown. Units should measure 2" x 4-1/2".

4. Sew (1) A 2” x 4-1/2” to rectangle units from Step 3, on the E side. Make (4).

5. Sew (1) I 1-1/2” x 8-1/2” strip between a pair of Arrow Units. Make (2) feathered end units. Press toward black.

6. Sew pieced square unit from Step 2 to feathered end units.

7. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (2) I 2-1/2" squares. Place (1) I 2-1/2” square RST on (1) end of A 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” rectangle. Sew a diagonal seam. Trim leaving 1/4” seam allowance. Press. Repeat on opposite end forming a flying geese unit. Make (2). Then repeat steps using (1) I 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” and A 2-1/2” squares. Make (2).

8. Sew a light flying geese unit to a dark flying geese unit. Sew arrowhead to feather. Sew (1) A 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” to pointed end of Arrow Unit. Make (2).

9. To top and bottom of pieced Arrow Units, sew D 3-1/2” x 22-1/2” strip.

10. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (22) E 3" squares. Layer each marked square RST with (1) I 3" square. Sew 1/4" on each side of marked line. Cut on line and press units open. Trim to measure 2-1/2" square . Make (44).

11. Sew 11 pieced squares in a row. Repeat. Layout 11 more pieced squares facing the opposite direction and sew. Repeat. Sew to top and bottom of each pieced arrow unit, note orientation as shown.

12. Sew (1) G 2-1/2” x 22-1/2” strip to top and bottom of each pieced arrow section.13. Sew (1) F 3-1/2” x 22-1/2” to top and bottom of each pieced arrow section.

1. Sew (1) A 1-1/2” square to (1) I 1-1/2” square. Make (4) units. Press.

2. Sew (1) I 1-1/2” x 2-1/2” to top edge of each unit. Note orietation — two units are a mirror image.3. Sew (1) A 1-1/2” x 2-1/2” to right side of square unit 1 and left side of square unit 2. Press. Two square units will have I on the right side and the other two will have A on the left side.

4. Sew (1) I 1-1/2” x 3-1/2” to top of two square Units 1 and 2. Then sew (1) A 1-1/2” x 3-1/2” to right side of units #1 and left side of units #2.5. Sew a (1) I 1-1/2” x 4-1/2” to the top of all (4) units.6. Sew (1) A 4-1/2” x 6-1/2” to the right side of Units 1. Sew (1) D 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” to A side of unit. Pieced Color StripsMake (4) of each of the following combined strips.

1. Sew A 2-1/2” x 8-1/2” to D 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” on short ends. 2. Sew A 2-1/2” x 6-1/2” to F 2-1/2” x 6-1/2” on short ends. 3. Sew A 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” to E 2-1/2” x 8-1/2” on short ends. 4. Sew I 2” x 12-1/2” to A 1” x 12-1/2” on long edge.

5. Sew combined strips together as shown below.

6. Sew (1) A 1” x 8-1/2” strip RST to long edge of (1) D 5” triangle. Make four. Press. Trim strip even with edges of triangle.

7. Make a dot 4-5/8” in from bottom corner of pieced colored strip (from Step 5) and another dot 4-5/8” up the inside. Draw a line with frixon pen or water-soluble pen. Center long edge of pieced triangle on this line. Stitch and press. Trim off extra leaving 1/4” seam allowance. Repeat on other three inner corners. Trim unit to 8-1/2” x 12-1/2”. Sew four units together so that aqua triangles form a square on point in the center.

Maze Row

1. Sew (1) D 1-1/2” square to (1) A 1-1/2” square. Press. Sew (1) D 1-1/2” x 2-1/2” to top and (1) A 1-1/2” x 2-1/2” to bottom.

2. Sew (1) D 1-1/2” x 3-1/2” to left side and (1) A 1-1/2” x 3-1/2” to right side. Press. Sew (1) D 1-1/2” x 4-1/2” to bottom and (1) A 1-1/2” x 4-1/2” to top. Press.

3. Sew (1) D 1-1/2” x 5-1/2” to right side and (1) A 1-1/2” x 5-1/2” to left side. Press. Sew (1) D 1-1/2” x 6-1/2” to top and (1) A 1-1/2” x 6-1/2” to bottom.

4. Finish maze blocks by sewing (1) D 1-1/2” x 7-1/2” to left side of all blocks. Make (8) blocks.

5. Sew the (8) gold Maze Blocks in the same manner as above substituting D for E. Add (1) E 1-1/2” x 7-1/2” to the bottom of blocks. Press.

6. Layout alternating gold and aqua Maze Blocks (four per row), noting block orientation. Add (1) A 2” x 7-1/2” between each pair of Maze Blocks. Add (1) A 2-1/4” x 7-1/2” strip to each end of row. Make (2).

7. Sew a pieced Maze Row to top and bottom of completed Center Block.

8. Sew (2) I 2-1/2” x 44” strips end to end. Make (2). Trim to 2-1/2” x 68-1/2”. Sew to top and bottom of combined Center and Maze pieces.

3. Layout (8) blocks alternating with (7) B 2-1/2” x 6-1/2” pieces. Sew together and add (1) B 3-1/2” x 6-1/2” to both ends of row. Make (2) rows.

Pyramid Row

1. Sew A 4-1/2” x 44” strips lengthwise to both sides of (1) D 2-1/2” x 44” strip. Press. Cross-cut into (12) 2-1/2” x 10-1/2” pieced segments. (Unit 1).

2. Sew A 2-1/2” x 44” strips lengthwise to both sides of (1) G 6-1/2” x 44” strip. Press. Cross-cut into (12) 2-1/2” x 10-1/2” pieced segments. (Unit 2).

3. Sew together Units 1 and 2, and add (1) E 2-1/2” x 10-1/2” to the bottom of Unit 2. Press. Make (12).

4. Layout (6) Pyramid Blocks in a row, alternating with (5) A 1-1/2” x 6-1/2” pieces. Sew together and add (1) A 2” x 6-1/2” to both ends of each row. Make (2).

5. Sew (2) I 1-1/2”x 44” strips end to end. Make (6) sets. Cut into (4) 1-1/2” x 68-1/2” and (2) 84-1/2". Sew shorter strips to top and bottom of both Pyramid Rows. According to quilt diagram, sew rows together from top to bottom. Sew (1) I 1-1/2" x 84-1/2"strips to sides of quilt.
